2017 has come and gone, and what does the FF7 remake have to show for it? One piece of promotional art, two blurry screenshots, and the occasional mention during a press release for some other, entirely different project. No actual news whatsoever. We don't even get to see what Tifa looks like.
This game was supposed to come out last year. They even said it was going to be episodic so they could get the first part out faster. It's one thing that we didn't get episode 1 or a prologue or even a demo, but no news? They even held the Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary event on the ACTUAL FUCKING DATE that FF7 was originally released and they had jack shit to show for it. They'd rather hock a bunch of stupid merchandise. Fuck off, Square. Fuck. Off.
...So yeah, general Square Enix hate thread, I guess.
Jonathan Morris
It got moved to the internal Square team to make it better quality.
You fuck off, you entitled nerd.
Kayden Hughes
Maybe I am entitled. I tend to feel entitled towards things that I'm fucking promised, moron. Or maybe I'm still sore after the last thing I waited too fucking long for Square to put out turned out to be an unfinished disappointment.
Kevin Torres
who gives a fuck? Besides, 2018 is KH3's year. I'd rather not hear a peep about FF7R until it's ready to be shown. They fucked up by doing that with KH3, and they're paying the price for it now.
Just let them fucking make the game and stop sperging
Josiah Morales
>2018 is KH3's year >it's okay for Square to put out only one thing of quality per fucking year Bullshit. Also >I'd rather not hear a peep about FF7R until it's ready to be shown. It's a little fucking late for that, isn't it?
Ayden Wood
>it's okay for Square to put out only one thing of quality per fucking year yea dumbass, let's get them to put out another unfinished game like FFXV. That worked well, right? If they only have 1 tentpole game for the year, then we gotta take what they have. They release plenty of other titles each year as well, but the big ones take time (fucking obviously)
>>I'd rather not hear a peep about FF7R until it's ready to be shown. >It's a little fucking late for that, isn't it? Yea, they fucked up by showing the trailer, because now cucks like you are gonna demand to see it every fucking time they're at an event. The game is actively in internal development. They're literally creating the game RIGHT NOW. So again, stop being a fucking sperg and let them finish making it.
Levi Jackson
I wonder how many hours they've wasted arguing over exactly how big Tifas tits should be?
Eli Perez
>Being excited for Kingdom hearts: FF7 edition
You deserve whatever disappointment comes your way. This game, even with the tiny bit of info we have, already shows it's a complete shit on the source material. Why? To Appeal to a generation that aren't even its fans beyond guest appearances in other games, a movie, and spinoffs.
FUCK Nomura and the other project leaders involved with this, FUCK squarenix and anyone and everyone that defends this shitpile disgrace of a remake. It's a bastardization.
Nathaniel Thomas
You still got more news for the FFVII remake than the west got for Dragon Quest XI, a fully complete game they promised to release here. That's just sad.
William King
>If they only have one tentpole game for the year, then we gotta take what they have. >we gotta take what they have >we gotta
Oh, okay. Sorry. Clearly I misspoke. I didn't realize I was under fucking contract to put up with this. It wasn't always like this, okay? I didn't always have to choose whether I wanted the game to be good or if I wanted the game to come out this fucking decade. Maybe I haven't played enough next-gen games, but is this really how things are now? Is this what we're actually expected to put up with? I guess that new Kingdom Hearts had better be out of this fucking world because I'm seriously about to drop this loser company.
Evan Collins
>We don't even get to see what Tifa looks like. Are you retarded user? They literally perfecting her in any way possible. She will be the first character to be rewarded the best girl character twice in a row in the same game.
Christian Fisher
Are you fucking retarded? You must be fucking retarded. Do you seriously think companies can shit out 2-3 blockbuster AAA games a year like they could in the PS1 days? Because in case you haven't fucking noticed, games have become a bit more difficult to make, and development times have increased across the board.
For you to have some fantasy that devs are just stringing needy fans along while they twiddle their thumbs and put off making their games because they're lazy, proves that you have absolutely no idea how modern game development works.
Anthony Fisher
I'm a moron because you're shitting your pants over a remake?
Christopher Smith
The only reason FF got a game a year back then was because they had multiple teams making them at the same time. And even then, it took them over a year to make FFVIII after FFVII came out.
That being said, they took way too long to make FFXIII and XV because of constant shifting of people on the game and an obsession with graphics.
Ayden Sanchez
But they don't HAVE to be more difficult to make! That's a fucking superstition! The building blocks of what makes for a good game haven't changed since the sixth generation! Maybe I don't need to know how modern game development works, because according to you, it doesn't. It just fucking doesn't. Game development has actually REGRESSED in effectiveness and consistency. PS1 days were better compared to this. What is it about the 1990s that's so fucking impossible to accomplish now?
Gabriel Sanchez
It's disheartening sure, but it's worth keeping in mind that the dev work they're doing for the first part probably also encompasses a bunch of groundwork for the following games. Modern AAA titles are already enormous and expensive undertakings for better or worse, and they're trying to do several in succession that will all have to have significant compatibility with each other.
Matthew Morgan
>NEET trying to sound smart fucking kys user.
James Hernandez
>What is it about the 1990s that's so fucking impossible to accomplish now? how about fucking graphics, for one? That alone lengthens development time significantly. Sprite-based games and models are much easier to create than 3d games with modern graphical quality.
How the fuck do you not understand this?
>But they don't HAVE to be more difficult to make! That's a fucking superstition! The building blocks of what makes for a good game haven't changed since the sixth generation! That's objectively false. There has been a ton of innovation in the RPG genre since then. New conventions, preferences, and expectations in playstyle and options alone add a lot more things devs have to consider.
Caleb Ramirez
Just fucking wait, it will come out eventually. Don't expect big games to ever come out fast again from Square. There're more than enoguh games you can play until then. Also it's not really a surprise that the first episode takes a bit longer since they'll ahve to make every asset and animation from scratch, the other ones should come out faster since tons of shit is alredy made that they'll never need to touch again. It also doesn't help taht Square management is fucked ever since the HD era, why did they outsoruce it in the first place and why did they put a director on it who was already workking on games and didn't even know he was going to be director
Ryder Diaz
>moved to the internal Square team
Not the OP, but I am a little curious. They were originally working with CyberConnect2. Did they ever say why CC2 left the project and they decided to do everything in-house?
Nicholas Lee
Creative differences
Michael Hughes
>how about fucking graphics, for one? That alone lengthens development time significantly. Graphics are actually the easiest thing to push out quickly. You just hire more artists. Hence why you get games like Assassins Creed being pushed out in under a year, but in the credits it takes 4 minutes for all the artist's names to scroll by.
Final Fantasy uses even more artists and graphic designers than any other game out there. But their games are taking so long to make for many other reasons. Like changing management three times for FFXV and completely redoing the game engine twice.
>Sprite-based games and models are much easier to create than 3d games with modern graphical quality. This is such bullshit. 3D models are much easier to use because they can just be manipulated after you make the base model. Sprites need to be redrawn for every single pose and direction. Sprite games are cheaper for other factors. Like for example, Konami gave Suikoden II the budget of a Castlevania game. It just had such a talented director that he squeezed an amazing game out of zero budget. For every one game like Suikoden however, there's a hundred sprite games that sacrifice quality for cost. Or don't even try.
James Bailey
>Game development has actually REGRESSED in effectiveness and consistency Heavily depends on the dev and also on the fans expectations. Of course it's easier to create some blocky lego FF7 models than high end models they have to do now, if they had enoguh space and the tools to make the models look this good they would've also done it. But 7R will forever be nothing but complaining anyway, Episodic, gameplay they don't like, if it takes too long they complain, if it would already be out and as long as the Midgar section they'd complain beause it's short and just the same shit, if Tifa doesn't have huge melon tits from the 2-3 outsourced FMVs etc.
Just fucking move on until it's out, you probably have a backlog or some shit to play anyway until then. No need to get this buttblasted over the ususal Square Enix shit
Aaron Garcia
If reacreating FF7 was really as easy as some idiots on Sup Forums think then some autists would've already done it in UE4 themself FF7 is good but hardly deserves all the over the top expections and hype it gets
Carter Wilson
>Sprite-based games and models are much easier to create than 3d games with modern graphical quality. >How the fuck do you not understand this?
I dunno dude, I think we might actually be on the same page, because you basically just told me the problem and the solution in one fucking sentence. If the graphics are what's making the games take so unbearably long to make, then maybe they just need to dial it the fuck back.
Christian Evans
exactly, all this whining about shit you can't control is infuriating. Just let them make the damn game. If it'll make you feel better, just know that after they create the assets for the first episode, the other 2 will get churned out much more quickly.
They're literally laying the groundwork for the trilogy RIGHT NOW
Jaxon Evans
>Of course it's easier to create some blocky lego FF7 models than high end models they have to do now, But the ironic thing is that FFVII back then cost far more to make than the detailed models they produce today. The issue is really that the developers of FF are not efficient, back then or now.
Anthony Gutierrez
yea, that'll fucking work. Take your flagship franchise, where every mainline game has pushed the envelope in some significant way, and regress it back to fucking sprites. Because that'll be received well.
Dumb fucking ideas like that is why they have spinoff FF games.
Juan Stewart
give em more time. they didn't even want to remake it in the first place. geez
David Carter
It's amazing how much Noctis stands out like a sore thumb, even amongst other relatively modern designs like Cloud and Squall. It's a good thing, honestly.
Blake Diaz
And then everyone will complain that it doesn't look like the CG they imagined in their heads. Square management is just shit and FF devs are slow as hell. The fact that it already has outsource/internal problems is already a bad sign and shows once again that Square just comes up with ideas and launches into development mode right away without thinking. Their games only survive because of trailers and hype at this point.
Asher Martin
He's wrong about sprites being easier to make than 3D models. But even if they were, the developers of Final Fantasy would never dial back on graphics. It's basically the only thing that sells the series anymore, since everything else about Final Fantasy has been changed and forgotten.
What FF really needs to do is bring back a lot of the stuff fans like about the games. But the developers of Final Fantasy keep thinking that sweeping change and innovation is the only thing that matters. Everything has gone full circle and Final Fantasy is once again like Star Wars. Just kill off all the characters and plot that made people like Final Fantasy and reboot it over and over.
Austin Murphy
he only really stands out because he's sandwiched between WoL and Yshtola, who are both from a high fantasy setting.
James Davis
As if most of Sup Forums even understands this, they probalby think they throw everything away and create everything from scratch for away new episode
Tyler Gomez
But Yuffie is best girl?
Brandon Butler
This is true.
Most likely she and Vincent will now be part of the main plot.
Oliver Baker
fuck off with your pedobait, everyone knows Tifa is best girl
Isaiah Gomez
Square can shit out graphics like no other, problem is probably that they changed to internal and that they will/ want to make it episodic so they'll have to come up with a lot more content and make Midgar huge etc. Also who knows how they'll handle voice acting, if every single NPC is voiced etc and they'll also probably rerecord the whole OST with an orchestra
But if Squares plan in anything to go by then KH3 will come out 2018, 7R 2019 and the Marvel game 2020. I mean it was only shown off in 2015, it really hasn't been that long just in terms of development especially considering the internal changes. It's just weird that we haven't seen more. but Nomura even said they had gameplay to show but upper management said no and then there's nothing he can do.
Joseph Flores
They don't necessarily have to dial it back that far, but what was so wrong with the way things looked in the PS2 era? You had all the tools you needed to express your artistic vision in 3 dimensions: textures, facial and bodily animation, well-rounded models, physics...all you could really ask for was better performance. Maybe games should focus more on good controls, good camera, depth of gameplay, and breadth of content, and less on gratuitous graphics that slow down the development and the performance. Because that WILL be received well. It would be received very, VERY well.
Final Fantasy never lent itself to realistic graphics anyway; the monster and character design are inherently unrealistic. Some colorful cel-shading might be a little bit better.
Justin Foster
If she looks like a 3D version of her gbike version it will be great. But perfection in the fans mind is probably a shortstack with big fake melon tits that float around like the few FMVs she shows up in. I don't get why noone takes the art or the ingame model as fact but only the FMV scenes
Adam Myers
The stripper tits or no stripper tits isn't really the deal breaker. The deal breaker will be if SE decides to make her Asian like in AC or go back to how she was depicted in all ingame art and models as North European.
Nolan Ramirez
They're only remaking it to milk the fanboys who have been yelling at them for 15 years for a remake to make some money and get them to shut up.
Aaron Murphy
I'd guess it's a combination of not wanting to take too much spotlight away from KH3 considering its impending release, and for it to really make an impression when it finally does show face again. Whenever anything new of any substance for the game comes out, it's going to be a big deal, so it would make sense if they want to ensure that the next media releases are as impressive as possible.
Tyler Jackson
I doubt that would fly with fans and square managment. Also they already showed trailers and screenshots so it's hard to go back now. Also overall visual will probably not hold them back in terms of time. They can create models in no time like no other, but a game also needs OST, VO, animations, a working realtime battlesystem in this case with character switching and implementing all the things that the original had and hopefully proper balance which FFXV really lacked, also all the enviroments and optimization etc. But as others have said, the first episode will take a while but after that any mosnter or npc pr playable character or sound effect or animation will never have to be touched again
Ryder Sanders
Yeah 2018 seems to be the KH3 years and the end of FFXV development thingy year. But Nomura himself even said that 7R was announced too early, Sony probably had a thing to do with that
Gavin Howard
>Selphie/Rikku/Penelo best girls in their game >Yuffie is worst girl in her game Strange.
Carson Thompson
XC3 will release before the first third of FF7R. Shouldn't have rejected that script.
Nolan Carter
Yeah, because that turned out so fucking awesome the last time a developer tried to make a three-episode trilogy.
Jackson Brown
>having taste this shit
Jason Adams
Yuffie is a generic genki girl like all the others I named. But she has no point in the game aside from stealing your materia and a few pratfalls in dialogue. And she becomes even worse in the FFVII spin off games. Literally just there to get in your way and be annoying.
Grayson Rivera
I'm not doubting that, I'm just saying all your "best girls" are shit
Ethan Diaz
I'm not saying they should change it now I'm saying that's how it should have always been. Realistic character models was a quaint idea back in FFXIII, but they still dressed like fucking clowns. Maybe if they had switched gears back then in terms of graphical style, then FFXV wouldn't have taken so long and FF7R would have already had its first episode by now.
I'm just saying, different graphics wouldn't be as bad as some people think. People still eat up Nintendo games last time I checked, and they've been dead last in the graphics department for the past decade. Also, remember when Okami was supposed to be super realistic and they changed it to cel-shading and it was way better for it?
Aiden Sanchez
>Selphie the psycho >Penelo the nothing >best girls Seriously, I remember about jack shit when it comes to Penelo. She left as much of an impression as a marshmallow on a sheet of bedrock.
Samuel Murphy
This. I always get annoyed when people get this fucking annoying about games. They're the same people who will nitpick every piece of detail to death anyways though so it really doesn't even matter. Games done when it's done bitches.
Landon Cox
You and every soylet on Sup Forums piss me off so fucking much
>I want this game >It better be good or fucking else >I don't want to wait for it
If you believe all three of those things about any game then kys
Jonathan Turner
go ahead and pick yourself up a Switch user, grown up games are clearly not for you
Julian Ortiz
Well, totally different teams work on those two games and even use two differnet engines. Overall it's just the management as always, there has been no FF that didn't have any kindof development or managment problems for decades now But it all really went super downhill with XIV 1.0 which need help from the V13 team so they couldn't finsish that and by the time the team got back it became XV and then KH3 was also starting etc. and despite that they still put the same direcotr on 7R without him even knowing. FF just needs a break for a few years, no wonder most directors already left Square, they work those guys to death
Jonathan Hernandez
Sup Forums's sense of time is totally fucked. They even act like Death Stranding will never come out and already took forever when it's basicly been one and a half years since it was announced.
Jaxson Rogers
You just have to wait 9 more years for the first episode of the FFVII remake on PS6.
Wyatt Evans
Penelo's character is she was the soft, logical version of Vaan. Basically Porom from Final Fantasy IV.
Alexander Mitchell
So what's your favorite line that Penelo says?
Camden Hernandez
> Three pieces of promotional art.
Fixed.
Henry Gonzalez
"Vaan!"
Alexander Nguyen
>expecting Square Enix to get something done quickly Well there's your problem right there dumbass. This is fucking Square we're talking about here. It took them over a decade to make XV. They've been teasing KH3 for about as long. FFVIIR isn't going to be finished before 2030, I guaranfuckingtee it.
Anthony Cook
Are you autistic? If so, please kill yourself. If not, still kill yourself. You are a faggot and a waste of space. Please get off my Sup Forums
Eli Collins
No.
Zachary Reyes
This autism reminds me of Garnet-user Now that was one autistic son of a bitch
Christian Phillips
Excellent. This is the memorable, emotionally rich dialogue that you can expect to hear from Best Girl.
Bentley Rivera
What the fuck? You're not me...but thanks for the backup, I guess...
Christopher Kelly
Right? KH3 MIGHT come out this year. MIGHT. I'm expecting another delay, personally.
Henry Smith
What is with all the Square apologists? The very second that FFXV hit the shelves, people were crying "WORST GAME EVAR!!" because of the overly long development period followed by a game that is merely above average. Now we see that Square is going down the exact same path, getting in over their heads, and suddenly it's okay?
Camden Green
FFXV was nowhere near average, let alone above average. Just about any generic AAA slop was better by a wide margin.
Kayden Foster
>It got moved to the internal Square team That certainly worked out well for Capcom and MvC:I.
James Price
Put him in his alt outfit and he suddenly stands out much less. That said, even his attitude makes him different from the rest.
Liam Williams
ff15 had the potential to be MUCH better than it ended up being. I wouldn't have minded if they'd delayed it a year honestly.
Angel Kelly
It's gonna be FFXV 2.0. Except that they'll sell us full priced games little by little to get the complete experience, instead of selling them as separate DLC as FFXV did.
I had hopes for the remake 2 years ago, but now I expect nothing but disappointment, a disjointed development, and most of all: greed.
Nolan Gonzalez
I also loathe Squenix now. They are so unbelievably out of touch with their fans it's unreal. I have little to no hope that FF7 remake will be what we've been waiting for.
Noah Reyes
I feel like having the final fantasy name attached to anything is a double edged sword. On the one hand you are guaranteed sales for the moment, but on the other you can no longer make a good game--it must be done by the numbers and with the approval of all the higher ups.
