989 studios is dead, OP. 2 was the only good title anyway.

Not with 989 being stuck doing fucking sports games it isn't.

>2 was the only good title anyway
I liked 1 (even if it's really dated). Never played 3 to completion though; it confused my 10 year old brain enough to stop me from finishing it.

2 really was good, though. To this day I think the Agency Bio Lab Escape is one of the best missions in all of vidya for giving you that feeling of pure clench and "oh shit."

What does this mean then?

1. all of like a thousand people played Syphon Filter; a new game would require a successful marketing campaign to generate interest. The brand has zero star power.
2. It would have to be a reboot/reimagining. Of those thousand people who actually played Syphon Filter, about 50 of them actually finished all 6 games.
3. The original talent is scattered across the industry now or probably retired; it's a guarantee that it wouldn't be remotely the same in tone. Say goodbye to the god-taser unless it shows up as a meme like, "hey guize remember this?"
4. People would just call it an MGS knockoff. (Syphon Filter is basically Foxdie but less deadly)

I remember playing the demo from the demo disc you got with the PS1 over and over. Great game

2 is the best. You can't prove me wrong.

loved tazing the enemies till they burned alive, the screams where funny as fuck.

Studio is making another IP right now since they're tired of making Syphon Filter for the last 15 years. I really hope their new game works out because that's our chance of a new SF game.

Why do you care about 989? My understanding they only published the games and they were developed by SIE Bend Studio which is now making their first new IP game since Syphon Filter for PS4.

How do you know?

>1000 people
>Syphon Filter
It's obviously more popular than you think. One rom site has like 100000 downloads for the second game alone. If you were around back then, you should know it was pretty popular.

>4. People would just call it an MGS knockoff. (Syphon Filter is basically Foxdie but less deadly)
These people were always retarded. Both came out about the same time and Syphon Filter was originally something to respond to the success of Goldeneye. Ironically, there was a game on the N64 that was pretty much a knockoff of Syphon Filter.

The 1000 people thing was a joke, user. It's still not popular.

literally their Wikipedia page and generally public knowledge. It was on E3 I believe.

It's called DAYS GONE

youtube.com/watch?v=6uED22JERB8

Was it? It didn't sound like it. Also, it's more popular than you think. A lot of coeval games are completely forgotten now. Whereas SF still seems to have a decent following. I'm not surprised, those games aged very well and they were ahead of their time and pretty unique and fun.

>Syphon Filter thread

Our best hope is for Shawn Layden to remember Syphon Filter and give it an HD remake of the trilogy. He did it with MediEvil.

Syphon Filter will 100% return, question is when. Stealth-action games a huge fucking niche, especially ones that stay more towards stealth. There's only like ONE other stealth game still likely to get a sequel in the triple A world and that is Splinter Cell.

Reminding me that they're making this featureless mess just makes me sad. Also, they haven't made a Syphon Filter game in like 10 years, so going back to it would be pretty fresh at this point.

haven't really been tracking the series since post-sf3, but i'd assume the rights would have to be bought from another dev studio (who even owns the rights to these games?)

>mfw Sony eventually reboots it with a Uncharted 4 flavor, gameplay-wise.
would you anons like that?

All I remember from this was tasing people ablaze and a burning train station that seemed impossible to my bab self.

Give me the gunplay of Max Payne 3 with the stealth of SC Chaos Theory. Only needs to fuck off with the forced stealth sections.

The game is still owned by SIE, the people who made Syphon Filter. Sony owns the trademark, in fact, they very very recently reapplied it.

>mfw using the taser for the first time and lighting someone on fire

They had been making the game since their entire existence(well you can count Bubsy 3D if you want, they probably don't), did that port of Resistance 3 for PSP and that's it. It's understandable honestly no matter how much we want a new SF. Plus, let's face it, something like what they're making now will sell probably better than SF so they're not to blame that people are fukcing plebs.

did any other faggots like playing omega strain online?

My guess it will have to go the way of MGS to be supported by Sony. If you read interviews with the devs you'd realize a lot of passion went into the first games, I doubt we can get something like that anymore. These days you either make a AAA game or just stick to indieshit.

MGS and SH were as AAA as it got back in the day

As someone who played SF1 for the first time a week ago and finished it and then immediately gave Omega Strain a try I can say that OS plays like shit, it's incredibly clunky compared even to the old games.

It's a poor man splinter cell

confirmed for never playing it

You mean SF? I doubt it. MGS definitely but SF was much more humble. For example they didn't even have any budget to do the party background for the party when gabe goes into PHARCOM expo center.

To be honest, it's more of a poor man's Dance Dance Revolution. Gabe's ass wiggles are the only moves in the game aside from some rolls.

I've played every game in the series, I'm a fan like the next guy, but why you gotta be so salty? It's not that extreme to point out that it's an unpopular game.

And the comparisons to Metal Gear have been real since release. Are you retarded? Yeah, they play differently. But both are action/stealth games with conspiracy plot.

>4. People would just call it an MGS knockoff.
They did, way back then.

I think I rented this game once, apparently its a stealth game? I thought it was a third person shooter? Is the multiplayer any good? I think I remember it had a lot of guns in it or something

I don't understand where your post comes from. I only said it's more popular than that user seems to think, I didn't say he said it's unpopular. In the end it's my opinion.

>And the comparisons to Metal Gear have been real since release. Are you retarded? Yeah, they play differently. But both are action/stealth games with conspiracy plot.
It's one thing to compare two things, another to call something a knock off of the other. There's definitely room for comparison between the two despite all the differences. However, it was a common MGS fanboy dismissive remark that it's it MGS clone when in reality it wasn't. If anything, the devs said they were responding to the success of Goldeneye on the N64, and even that was only emulation in terms of themes(spy with gadgets) than actual gameplay design.
