While hardmods arent free (because you need to buy the mod part), i literally never seen a DRM and fees besides the the part itself.

Switch only sold well thanks to PS4 saving the industry. Devs and publishers were so hesitant to make new games until PS4 proved to be a gold mine. Switch only got such a good start because devs are now in the mindset that consoles should be supported again.
