Because lets play tend to spout out memes and it attracts the ironic meme shitters
Bentley Sanders
No, you don't have to be interesting to make a let's play, but it's the only way you're going to get viewers.
Asher Ward
I don't get it either Trust me, i really tried going to streams, watched "best moments" and shit like that and i still can't find the appeal
Ian Morgan
The let's play I watched was one for Betrayal at Krondor. The dude couldn't even read the text clearly without stumbling and his video had 220k or so views.
Eli Bennett
there was only ever a couple LPers i could handle but i guess the whole appeal is the personality of the person, and for the dumb kids it's like watching a friend play a game in front of you, except he's not your friend at all and desperately just wants to make money off you
it also doesn't hurt that they require almost no effort to make, almost as little as asmr or reaction videos
Asher Miller
>except he's not your friend at all and desperately just wants to make money off you abdallahsmash
Ian Morales
Friendship simulators for the underaged.
Cooper Evans
You just watched a shitty LP is the problem. Try watching John Wolfe for example.
really couldn't help you much, the only real reason i know of their existence is because my gf loves to listen to them while she falls asleep. youtube.com/watch?v=EBqCc2_w06I
here's a random one i found off youtube, if you get creeped out by that kind you could always find sound effects like rain, waves or even just things like city ambience
I get what asmr is, but I find the intentional ones absolutely revolting. I love watching unintentional videos that give me the asmr feeling, but yeah if its someone making it deliberately I cannot stand even one second if it.
Adam Richardson
LPs where the creator plans out each part of his journey and has some helpful info for each area or boss is rare but the only type I like to watch.
Parker Gonzalez
I can see why that would be interesting to watch.
Jacob Brooks
Trust me i feel the exact same way, the only way i can really 'feel' it is with music i enjoy, movie/video game scenes or like i mentioned ambience. hope you find something that works for you
Bentley Harris
Again, lparchive.org, they have an "informative" category that is precisely that
Ethan Powell
Makes you appreciate the content creator's passion/love for the game and seeing them genuinely get excited replaying their favorite moments.
Henry Price
> It seems like you don't even need to be funny or particularly good at the game >to make them Yeah, no SHIT. Because you need those to record your game and voice with a $5 microphone
Justin Walker
It is a friend simulator.
You will get it once you get sufficiently alone and depressed you put one on in the background of what you are doing for the noise your real friends would have made when playing vidya yourself.
... If you had them.
Ayden Rogers
s-stop..
Dominic Roberts
It simulates social interaction, people feel like they have a connection to someone else. Kind of like how people use this place a lot.
Ian Gonzalez
I think the feeling you are describing is a bit different man. Ive seen what you described being called 'frission.' Unfortunately in my quest for asmr videos I have had to make my way to reddit where I have seen this distinction made. I get asmr in real life from things like surveys, doctor visits or watching someone engrossed in their work.
Years ago before I knew what asmr was and before all these creeps started making videos I posted on r9k asking if anyone knew of any relaxing videos like an example I posted. A femanon became interested and offered to do things like show me her book collection and even her panty collection on cam, as this was similar to the video I posted. We did it a couple of times but in the end it felt more like a porno camgirl situation so I decided to stop.
Bentley Hall
I was always under the impression that they were more or less the same thing, so i did some digging:
>The tingling sensation that characterises ASMR has been compared and contrasted to 'frisson', which is a French word for 'shiver'.[83]
However, the English word 'shiver' signifies the rhythmic involuntary contraction of skeletal muscles which serves the function of generating heat in response to low temperatures, has variable duration, and is often reported subjectively as unpleasant. By distinction, the French word 'frisson', signifies a brief sensation usually reported as pleasurable and often expressed as an overwhelming emotional response to stimuli, such as a piece of music. Frisson often occurs simultaneously with piloerection, colloquially known as 'goosebumps', by which tiny muscles called arrector pili contract, causing body hair, particularly that on the limbs and back of the neck, to erect or 'stand on end'.
the more you know i suppose
Sebastian Carter
>play a platformer for the first time ever >it's literally just some guy jumping around with some light combat
Jacob Bell
How the fuck do you faggots actually get addicted to goose bumps?
Austin Nguyen
different strokes for different folks user, i'd much rather go get high imo
Zachary Walker
Neck yourself, junkie
Anthony Nguyen
It is harsh but it is the truth, plenty of people use LPs and podcasts as a substitute for social interaction, and before those TV was used the same way, Comforting Lies.
It is a human coping mechanism.
Jaxson Richardson
imagine being this assblasted at the thought of some random stranger on the internet getting baked
i hope your life is going well for you user
Mason Parker
normies are afraid of being alone so they use social media and YT to keep them company, some random jabroni talking over videos helps them cope with the loneliness.
Andrew Carter
The only two groups I enjoy are slowbeef and diabeetus, and super best friends. Mostly just because I enjoy it as background noise when I'm working
Leo Diaz
Before I knew about either term I always thought of asmr as a relaxing thing, while frission is way more emotional. Frission for me at least seems to be a lot harder to achieve and I have to be in a specific mood.
Either way they both feel good ( ^-^)ノ∠。.:*:・'°
Henry James
Its just a relaxing thing man. Ive learned a lot of stuff along the way too because most of the videos I get asmr from are ones of artisans at work or information being presented in a methodical manner.
For a while I believed asmr to be some sort of instinct thing, like your brain calms you down so you can take in information being presented to you by a master, because these were the types of videos that were giving it to me.
I also believe that 99% of the videos where a hot girl is crunching potato chips or something in the mic are bullshit for idiot normies that dont get it and just like watching bimbos do shit. I have been in situations where asmr was almost an out of body or depersonalizing experience. You dont get that watching some babe rip paper.
Fuck. I remember laughing about it when it came out.
Lincoln Green
I mostly watch let's plays of games I've already played, mainly to see other people's reactions and methods of playing the game.
Alexander Flores
Let's plays have two points of actual usefulness: 1. Serving as a review of the game 2. The walkthrough aspect of it.
Wyatt Long
>make YouTube videos >my brother refuses to play with me >he sits in the other room watching some gay fucking numales with open mouths scream about Gary's mod or Friday night at Freddys >hed rather do that >hes 24
Jayden Davis
>really like chuggaaconroy's presentation and technical knowledge >absolutely despise his personality, jokes, voice, the way he reads out every non voiced bit of text in a dramatic way
Evan Perry

Jayden Lee
Let's Plays are great for evaluating games before buying them. Can't trust reviews at all. It's also a good thing to put on in the background while doing something else. If you're anything like me, you always need something playing in the background. Let's Plays offer a lot of content. I watch GDQs for the same reason. The runs aren't particularly interesting, it's just comfy to have a 24/7 stream in the background for a few days.
Brody Flores
As a guy who's watched Lets Plays for.... well, eight going on nine years(High Speed Internet came to me LATE), a lot of my initial motivation was to watch Video Games that I realistically wasn't going to purchase, whether I was short on funds or was too far behind everyone else as far as the generational tech went.
But I'd have to say single-player lets plays lost their overall appeal to me apart from a select few who basically could talk a mile a minute with actual emotion(usually rage and terror). The stuff that really works are the multi-player lets plays, when groups of people are communicating at once. They tend to be more entertaining even if they aren't particularly interesting individually.
Not that this beats the lonely nerd syndrome harped on this thread. I'm not going to contest it.
Samuel Ward
They're hot garage that will often attract people who don't even play games. Try watching one that was done with post-commentary and editing. There are some good ones. youtube.com/watch?v=LLItPEpkK7A
Hudson Foster
I tried this, but it was always disappointing
Thomas James
I think that the real problem is that people, especially the underaged, are looking for friendship/companionship through youtube. They somehow can't watch something if they're alone without someone talking to them ?
>back in 2012 (already 6 years, dammit) >want to watch a quick video showing a game, it's mechanics >click on [game] let's play/walkthrough >cool demonstration, no talking or commentary, no shitty intro whatsoever, player makes one or two mistakes but overall it's fine
>2015 >want to see a PC mod for GTA 5, how it looks >almost all the thumbnails are shitty clickbait with numale autistic happy or scared face, imitating pewdipie when he was still human waste >video start with : "HEY GUYS IT'S-" >try to look for another one >same >try to look for another one >SAME >tried to include "no commentary" in the research bar >have the same results, or unrelated videos of another game >give up
Tyler Wilson
>2006 >fraps doesn't even exist >have to record footage using a camera between my legs >have to do this while not fucking up the take as well >only 13 min of recording time on camera
