Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness

I don't get why this is considered the worst tomb raider game, it's fun. Controls are a little flimsy, but it isn't Superman 64 quality.

I don't get it either. I liked it when i was a kid, thought Paris had a great atmosphere.

It was heavily rushed, also people had high expectations from aggressive marketing campaign.

It was the last good Tomb Raider for me, the last actual puzzle-platformer Tomb Raider.
Not the best one but it had its moments (Louvre, the Crypt pit, Hall of Seasons)

Is this game compatible with gamepad on PC?

Don't forget that awesome song

>Controls are a little flimsy
that´s an understatement if I ever heard one.
There are ps1 games with better controls than this.
Also you probably forgot the state it was released in, especially on pc. This game was all kinds of fucked up.

It genuinely has the worst controls I've ever seen in a game. Why is jumping forward and jumping stationary mapped to two separate buttons?

I agree that the dark atmosphere of the game is great though.

I'd rather play the new games than any of them from that generation. The original games are still my favorite though.

I am playing it on the pc

it plays similarly to other old tomb raider games on pc, and so I am used to it, but a primary issue I have is the walk to run is slow, turning can be a pain while running for accuracy, and turning in mid-air can be slow, so I die quite a few times. Although it's never too terrible

Personal favorite in the series. I acknowledge it as a let down in some terms but it's still a phenomenal game. As far as its controls go they are not worse than any of the predecessor entries. Its atmospheric, visuals are pretty good for the time and I loved the bits of nonlinearity and the rpg-esque elements.

It's also a rare occasion where I recommend a ps2 version if you have access to real hardware as it looks sharp and runs on a high framerate. Virtually ports are the same, if anything PC port is way less comfy on a keyboard.

>all kinds of fucked up

Bullshit. Played it on release on PC and a year ago on ps2 after a decade and a half. I encountered only one bug/glitch and its present on both versions - when you raid the hideout you can pick up a handgun magazine indefinitely. As in once you pick it up it doesn't disappear. You can stock up on ammo enough to never worry about it again.

those set of 2 or 3 tomb raider games inbetween the original games and Nu-Lara were some of the best "b-games" I've ever played. Controls were tight, puzzles were interesting, combat was good, just an all around solid product

Anniversary was excellent. Legend was amazing at the time but retrospectively I think it had way too much shooting and rather poor gunplay to back it up.

Visually they were absolutely stunning and I'd say Legend was by far the best looking game by far when it came out.

that's it, forgot the names. Yea, Anniversary was fucking fantastic. A tiny bit better than Legend looking back.

Yeah, I liked the anniversary, but people are shitting on it at every opportunity, Gard doesn't want to talk about it even.I played the original to compare but still don't get the hate.
Also do you agree that Lara is the most beautiful girl in all vidya?

Anniversary is the remake of the very first Tomb Raider.

There was also Tomb Raider Underworld but I haven't played that one. I remember getting low framerate with my toaster.

Rayne from Bloodrayne is forever my waifu.
I do remember being a bit infatuated with Lara from Legend, especially the evening dress outfit on that one level.

People who shit on Anniversary are morons.

it was either in the beginning of Anniversary or Legends where you're in a swimsuit/bikini for the first level. I've lost count of how many times I fapped to that shit

That was Underworld.

Underworld.

Yea, that's it. It's actually the only one I never ended up finishing. I never went past the first level, too much fapbait

...

The wetsuit is sexier than an actual bikini would be. I was always impressed by the outfits they made for Lara in the nu-trilogy.

Any game is a good game when you compare it to Superman 64.

I like sexy lara, don't like nulara. Nulara looks so plain and boring.

AoD was really bad though OP

>Controls are a little flimsy
>a little flimsy
>a little
Are you fucking insane? I'm wi... I WAS with this series since TR2 hit stores. AoD was a fucking disaster, but ironically not due to Core's fault.
The controls were a mess, but what to expect from a control scheme written literally a day before the game was send for printing. Half of the game was unifished in very visible way, with countless bugs, some of which required different copy of the game to play at all. And that because the shitty rush job Eidos imposed on Core, just because they needed the game pushed out, regardless of anything, before the tax year ends.
Game unfinished? Who fucking cares, just dump it.

Said that, it had THE best atmosphere of all TRs.

They are even worse on keyboard, user.

Depends on what you are measuring, user.
Atmosphere, music, characters, even fucking dialogues were all top notch.
Shame the gameplay was a fucking disaster of half-baked, unfinished levels with even worse controls.

People who shit on Anniversary are old enough to remember TR1 and know what made it so good. You literally had to be 20+ upon it's release to understand why Anni has such strong and passionate hatedom.
And it's not even about nostalgia. The game simply takes a massive dump on the original, somehow producing a less complex game entire decade and two generations later.
