I love the upcoming trend of "RETRO" speed runners.
Most of them are so bad at the games is unwatchable.

This guy is a machine and one of the few that I still follow. Like you said, he plays a lot of different stuff and doesn't have an obnoxious attitude. Watching him slowly disassemble Dark Souls 2 over a few months was insane.

I originally got into speedrunning years ago and since then, its lost the drive or spirit that attracted me to it. Speedruns used to be examples of well thought out and well executed displays of optimization. I could sit through wall after wall of text on SDA just reading the runner's explanation of the run.

Now, most runs are still optimized and impressive but the games themselves seem to serve more as a platform for a runner or "personality" to gain recognition or at least attention. I can't stand seeing people run the same Mario/Zelda games, bad games no one has bothered to "WR" yet, romhacks and super long games that aren't even fit for speedrunning.

Most of these guys are programmers by profession and it comes easy for them to write scripts,exploit or find new glitches.
I mean it is labor intensive since you have to to it per frame basis but still ts nothing like the grind monkey work other people do.
