I remember being a teenager and enthusiastically reading the new chapters of Gantz as they were released.
What a shitshow the final arc was. I didn't even bother buying the last few volumes of the manga. I have an incomplete collection and I don't even care because I was so disappointed by it.

My only advice to the new younger generation is to not get too much into whatever Hiroya Oku is doing because he can't write endings to save his life.

Aliens were coming to Earth to fuck shit up, another race of aliens that managed to survive the invasion send some advanced weapons for the humans to defend themselves.
Unfortunately, a german's autistic daughter started acting as an antenna to the care packages, seeing all of this advanced weaponry the dude decided to make a game out of it. So instead of every army in the world training with all of the weapons and mechs that were available at the start only people that died were forced to play the Gantz game, locking all of the powerful weapons behind paywalls. No idea how vampires fit into all of this, maybe they were an alien race that started repopulating on Earth or they were actual vampires, or how the other alien races came to Earth and managed to hide in plain sight.

Entire third Arc is a huge piece of shit but the rest is so damn good

Wouldn't a horde mode style game work better? You complete waves and based on how many points you get you get to choose a new weapons until you die, then all of the progress resets and you have to start from zero. You could even make Gantz groups with your friends, if you die and a teammate gets a hundred points he could use them to revive you with all of your gear left intact.

There's not enough weapons or fighting styles in Gantz for this to work

Yeah, after posting I realized that replaying the same thing over and over would get boring pretty fast, but how could you implement the point system in real time? the only way I see it working is if every 100 points you get a new weapon until you get to the mechs or get to revive a party member.

I'm utterly convinced that there's no way they survived falling to earth from low orbit and the ending is actually a death-dream between the two of them.

I don't think a horde mode would work. Make it more like a BR match and get the points at the end to buy upgrades for the next match, the other weapons, the bike, etc. If you die you lose any points you had so there is no reason to save them.

And by a BR match i don't mean PvP btw, just the same "last man standing" thing but against stupidly unfair aliens instead.

Honestly I think that Platinum Games is the only studio that could make a good Gantz game

Not saying they don't deserve it, but...well, sometimes being released from life can be a happy ending.

They both had friends and girlfriends waiting for them back home and the alien invasion is over, and even if they died they still managed to kill all of the aliens and destroyed the mother-ship without it blowing up the Earth.

Which would've been a perfect ending for a manga like Gantz considering the fact that nearly every other instance of happiness was nulled by character death or removal. Even if they did get revived.
