Keep in mind the games are very hard to get into and takes time to figure out how they work but once you get it that's when they become extremely rewarding and enjoyable

I liked 2 better, but I played it first. I think it's a bit easier (though you still die to anything for the first 50% of the game) and tells you more precisely what you need to do.
A lot of people say 1 is better though.

Try 2 and if you like it and don't find it too old and hard, get 1 as well.

Gothic 2 is much better than 1, but 1 is a lot easier than 2 that's why you should play 1 because it will make playing 2 a lot easier

Just play Elex instead. Same Gothic experience with better graphics and controls.

Around a third of my class (7th grade, so that's what, 12 yo, I guess?) had access to PCs, and almost all of them played Gothic (at least the beginning), including two girls. Girls! I wonder why more rpg games don't add choice execution mechanic. It's such a nice detail and makes you feel so powerful and in charge of someones life. Sparring some scumbags life, taking his weapon feels good. It makes killing some really scummy asshat even more memmorable of a moment. Its a good element and could be a bit more elaborated in new RPG's.

1, I like the setting more. So much more that I didn't even play the second.

The setting in the first one is ingenious, this I can I agree with. The in-universe explanation of the world's borders is really inventive. However, the second one improves on nearly every others aspects of the game in my opinion. And while the island of Khorinis may not be as creative as the colony, it's still incredibly immersive and, for the lack of a better word, comfy.

They have the good and the bad. I couldn't complete the last 3 bethesda creation engine games though. The story telling is atrociously bad, combat overly simplistic and poor, loot and difficulty are lazy and leaves you with realisation that you will never find anything that will make you feel 'jackpot'.

The good is that there's a good sense of explorational freedom with some creativity how you want to explore, who to kill etc. Making you want to get into various places and see what's there. That's about it i guess.

Yeah, theyre getting worse with every new release. They look better but every other aspect of gameplay gets on the chopping block, making the games have less and less game in them.
