This.
Toddward would claim those are separate games.
But they are separate games, my fellow game consumer. That's why we need to buy each of them!
>wRPG

why does this always happen?
...
morrowind was very immersive about it
oblivion and even more skyrim had too much handholding and made it feel like I'm in a movie
>RPG
>you die in a cutscene
>JRPG
>you play as a 13 year old self-insert with a harem of underaged supermodels and nonthreatening male sidekicks so you can live vicariously in a life you'll never have
>Sup Forums calls it GOTY
pretty funny bait
Morrowind counts for this you know
There's literally nothing that's not true on that image, dumbo.
It's amazing really. Even though whoever made it definitely tried to cherrypick as hard as he could, 75% of stuff on the right still looks much better. How can weeb taste be that abysmal?
you can tell it's a good image because it tells you what you should be thinking
So what's the best starting point for a blank slate character? Assuming you start as an adult.
> looks much better
> muhh grafics durrrr

good one
I have neither said a word about graphics or asked for your pics pal
No relevant game besides Oblivion has ever done this

I said relevant.

This unironically

How is Dark Souls NOT an ARPG?
> you PLAY the ROLE of the Chosen-Undead/Ashen-One
> you select your class at the begining of the game that results in a meaningful and lasting effect on your playstyle
> you gain levels through experience that allows you to upgrade your character via stats and skills
> you customize your toon with various weapon, armours and equipment
> you interact with NPCs and can alter the storyline via interactive dialogue options
> eschewing turn-based mechanics, you engage in hack-and-slash-style combat.
...
>jRPG
>main character is fictional console
>you PLAY the ROLE of the Chosen-Undead/Ashen-One
So Pacman is an RPG too because you play the role of a yellow head escaping ghosts through a labyrinth?
>you select your class at the begining of the game that results in a meaningful and lasting effect on your playstyle
It literally stops mattering after first few levels
>you gain levels through experience that allows you to upgrade your character via stats and skills
"A game with stats" is NOT a definition of an Roleplaying game for fuck's sake
>you interact with NPCs and can alter the storyline via interactive dialogue options
You literally don't, 99% of dialogues are non interactive monologues, and in rare occasions when you can replay it's always just yes/no: and only one option ever pushes the plot forward
>eschewing turn-based mechanics, you engage in hack-and-slash-style combat.
How is that an RPG trait?
>you customize your toon with various weapon, armours and equipment
This arguably counts, but is not enough
>"A game with stats" is NOT a definition of an Roleplaying game for fuck's sake
This, Japanese "role-playing" games don't understand what role-playing is.
Good thing Oblivion was better, right guys
...
What if i told u that both jrpg and wrpg are shit filled with most boring tropes?
youd be right, only 5% of rpgs are good.
What if I told you that the region from which the devs are doesn't fucking matter and both "wrpgs" and "jrpgs" have great and shit games among them, in more or less equal proportion?
>fps
>you're onboard a transport chopper or ship of some kind
>it crashes and all the screen goes black
>after some time your vision fades back in with the sound of gunfire and your superiors barking orders at you
I wish this picture didn't turn me on as much as it does.
lies, not even 2% of the games in every genre are good at all, except maybe some obscure genres like car combat or skateboarding(sports?) where 1 game accounts for more than 5%

Roasted and toasted
Most difficult rpgs if you're willing to go autistically in-character for decision making. Morrowind's done that to me, and more recently divinity original sin 2 as well on harder difficulties. Most of the time it's as simple as thinking "would this character have a good whatever score" or "would this character do the smart thing here", answering no, and getting fucked up for making that decision.
>dragons are sentient beings
>you can interact with them
