good game with average aesthetics

knee sliding was a fun mechanic making it a faster paced first person shooter with some fun to use guns making a little better than average
it changed things up a little, I had fun with it

meant, third person shooter, obviously
also it's short length means its easy to just pick up and buzz through it in a day when you're in the mood for some kneejet slidan action

It's one of Platinum's best games. Kinda like how God Hand dominates the beat em up, no third person shooter matches Vanquish in quality.

average game overblown by platfags because it wasn't quite as trash as the rest of the tps genre

It's fucking awesome, but it's a game that few really appreciate. TPS fags play it like a cover shooter, Platinum fags expect le cuhrayzee melee mechanics and get annoyed to find out that it's a game about shooting. As far as games of its genre go it's easily the best though. I do wish it borrowed the mechanic where your slow mo meter refills a little bit with each kill from Max Payne though.

this, the speed of it is fun but the movement isn't nearly complex enough to be interesting and the gunplay itself is lame and not punchy as it should be in a shooter

MGR > bayo > vanquish
yay or nay?

The movement is fine for what it's going for, this isn't a platformer after all. Game has more than enough depth and challenge to be interesting for dozens upon dozens of hours which is all I ask for desu.

I'd say Lost Planet 2 was on par, as were ZOE. 3PS is pretty broad desu.

>Budget ran out
>No resolution
>Main antagonist just leaves and everything's fucked
>Roll credits
>No sequel ever

Bayo>Vanquish>MGR
MGR had great boss fights. But everything inbetween them was mediocre.

Did anyone mod out the shit bits from Bayo yet? If yes then it's the best. Vanquish is a different genre though, hard to compare. I like it more than any beat 'em up but I'm biased towards shooters.

Its great, and has even greater potential. You don't see this kind of fast-paced high-adrenaline third person shooter anywhere else, its a thing of its own, and I'd kill for more.

It's pretty fuckin' rad. It has a hell of a learning curve though. You either sink or swim. There's no middle ground.

It's my second favorite Mikami game personally.

MGR > Vanquish > Bayo

Bayo was full of crap 2bh and like 2 hours of cutscenes where nothing happens.
The best boss fight is locked behind a stupid missile section.

>gfx
not great, average maybe
>sounds
not great, average maybe
>writing
dogshit

The only thing it had going on for it was the great pew pew but even that was just not enough in the campaign to offset the average everything else. The challenge maps made the game bloom to it's full potential though.

Imagine being this wrong

I actually think they're all good with negligible difference in fun

Writing was amazing though
THANK GOD I'M AN ATHEIST

W101 > TF Devastation > Bayo 1 = Bayo 2 = Vanquish > MGR > Madworld > Korra > TMNT

Revengeance was my first Platinum game, and my first "Character/Stylish Action" game. It's a remarkably memorable, enjoyable game that plays very smoothly, but it also just isn't as focused or deep gameplay-wise as many other action games by Platinum. Devastation is easily their best licensed game.

Also, Bayo 1 & 2 are equal to me but their strengths are completely different. Bayo 3 would need to be Bayo 2 with Bayo 1's core combat balance to be truly amazing and surpass both.

I like them all as well. That's just my order as far as experinces go, since I think they're all great games with flaws.

>Revengeance was my first Platinum game, and my first "Character/Stylish Action" game

Have you gotten to check out any of the Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden series?

I played DMC for the first time last year. First played around in 4SE on a friend's PC, then got the HD Collection. DMC3 is up there with W101 & TFD for me as my 3 favorites in the sub-genre. DMC1 & 4SE are both great games that lack certain things, not that DMC3 is completely flawless.

My hope for DMCV is that it takes 3 as a template for what the game should be like in terms of pacing and story and completeness, but has 4SE's depth and variety of gameplay and some of 1's visual design. It'd be a shame if Trish & Lady (or their functions) weren't available in a new game. In a perfect world you'd get Dante/Nero/Vergil/Trish/Lady/Sparda/Lucia all playable. I like variety; it's a reason why I like Devastation so much.

I liked it okay but it gets stale pretty fast. Worth 10 bucks at least.

You nailed what DMC5 should be. I prefer the looks and atmosphere of DMC, and the gameplay of DMC3/4. Hopefully 5 knocks it out of the park.

If you ever get a chance, play Ninja Gaiden Black. It's in my top five list for these types of games.

>buy it for PS3
>think its ok
>tons of framedrops
>lack of wallbouncing still makes Gears of War faster paced
>in fact you dont even need cover for Vanquish
>get to Act 4 and never finish it

>buy it on sale this past month for PC
>OH FUCK IM FUCKING FIST OF THE NORTHSTAR
>144fps
>fucking night and day comparison
>finally beat the game
>dive right into God Hard

This game was MADE for PC. I only wish there was a way to improve your FOV.

>dropping a 5 hour game
why

mgr's combat is dull in comparison

i've never really enjoyed a plat game desu.

they're ok but not as good as some people here say

MGR would be Platinum's best had it not been for the lazy combo system. That game is way too easy, and the combat doesn't have enough depth. If the combat were a bit more refined, or if Sam had been the protag (with an expanded move set, of course) it just might be the best. The emphasis on Blade Mode and the "Cut & Take" stuff were a bit much. Though I'm guessing this is due to KP using that as the game's selling point. Even Nier has a bit more depth than MGR.

I think it's my favorite Platinum IP. I really liked going fast, the different weapons, and all the challenges. The short length also made it very replayable.

I meant more in the quake or source or even CoD sense. for as much as people slam other shooters for being simple, Vanquish's movement doesn't have much more than "hit the slide button and manage your meter"

even CoD4 has rudimentary bunnyhopping that you have to manage between your ability to shoot, and mantling. Vanquish just has a "Go Fast" button that you have to wait for a recharge on sometimes, it's not very engaging. fast is fun but fast needs to have some player involvement to be truly Fun With A Capital F

i feel like they're like fighting games in that there's a contingent of people who REALLY TRULY ADORE them and have strong opinions on the differences between God of War and Heavenly Sword and DMC and Bayonetta and MGR but everyone else wishes the genre would fucking move on already because really at the surface level they're all the same and they're all kinda boring and easily cheesed even as a casual

I didnt know how short it was at the time, if i knew I was right at the end I would've continued.

More or less fine with cheesing, but it's the depth of the game mechanics that makes DMC fun.
Sure you can blow through each one relatively easy, but getting complex movements and everything takes practice and looks really cool Which usually is it's own reward.

Not many games have this kind of reward system, where getting better is it's own reward.

Besides maybe Monster Hunter

>Not many games have this kind of reward system, where getting better is it's own reward.
and much like the fgc, "cuhrayzee" gamers think that no genre other than their own is actually fun and injects dopamine right into people's eyeballs instead

seriously nigger? other games aren't fun to git gud at on their own? people fucking speedrun Shrek games

Well not exactly as Vanquish has varieties of boost dodging along with diagonal boosting which is faster not to mention using melee attacks to gain speed

>that segment with the two trains and one's looping right over you and shit
Platinum knows how to make a spectacle, that's for damn sure.

Cool the first time but man I hate replaying that level

i dont think you understand my point and i think you're an amerimutt with thought disorders who is not worth trying to reason with

>game has no advanced techniques to gain speed
>point out some advanced techniques to gain speed
>respond in fotm memes
ok then

Yikes.

>Lost Planet 2
This. One of Capcom's absolute best games. Why they chose to go with the Dead Space route is beyond me.

Way to shoot yourself in the foot lmao

it was a third person shooter by platinum games so yeah, it was pretty good

>Vanquish's movement doesn't have much more than "hit the slide button and manage your meter"
this is bait right

It's so good that it made me realize that I just don't like third person shooter games.
It's so polished and cool that I could really dive into it, it's something special.
Except I was just bored of it, just like I am with other Platinum games.
