Nier Automata is fucking bad game.

Is Evangelion the Nier of anime? Should I watch this if I loved these games?

I can agree that the gameplay of all of these games range anywhere from shit to playable, but the stories told are quite fantastic.
Although I can totally understand not liking the story for any or all of them to be quite honest

Absolutely. I only watched NGE recently after having played Nier and Automata. NGE will remind you of things from them, most notably Automata and if you've played it, Persona of all things. It is a very good show, but much like Yoko Taro's games and the Persona games, it takes quite a while to get to the real meat of the story.

Not really. For as wacky and tryhard as Taro's games can get, at least he's trying to be original. While Evangelion was just a hodgepodge of ideas stolen from 3 two decades of better shows with a dash of religious terms thrown in for good measure.

Cool. I'll watch it. I keep hearing about it but I never got to it. Maybe it'll get me into anime.

Have fun user.
If you want some more anime to watch after that there's a few I can recommend;
>Gurren Lagann
> Berserk (read the manga though, trust me)
>Made in abyss
>Mob Psyco 100
Those are all great and mostly beginner friendly. Have fun user.

Thanks, noted. Honestly I don't like anime very much, I've seen some of it and it annoys me. But I KNOW there's some fucking great ones and I should watch them.

I was so unexpectedly dissapointed in Automata. It held my attention and I wanted to keep playing when I stopped so I got my money's worth, but after playing NieR (which I liked) and reading up on Drakengard as well as it being highly praised I was expecting something great. Every time the story tried to pull on emotions there was nothing, even NieR did it better in route B where you actually felt something for the bosses you killed.

You seem like a knowledgeable anime watcher. Do you know any good gag anime that doesn't take itself too seriously and generally has each episode be self-contained? I don't really watch anime but I've watched a few shows like baka and test, pet girl of sakurasou and daily lives of high school boys. There's something very comfy about watching groups of friends go on lighthearted adventures.

...

xenogears

Nope, that honor still belongs to Xenogears. Disc 2 = Evangelion episodes 25 & 26 with budget cuts and all. Oh I kid but it's too similar for me.
Either that or Metal Gear Solid 2.

Space Dandy

how the fuck are there people on Sup Forums of all places who have never watched NGE??

I'm actually not as knowledgeable as I seem, unfortunately. The only anime I can think of that doesn't take itself very seriously off the top of my head would be what the other user said, Space Dandy which is basically a humorous Cowboy Bebop. Also watch Cowboy Bebop if you haven't, it's amazing.

Fuck, you reminded me that I gotta play that. How does it compare to the first Xenoblade?

I'm so sick of seeing this face, fucking kill yourself.

xenoblade is some babby ass bedtime story

It's kind of amazing how all these games and shows that try to copy Evangelion do it so much better than Evangelion ever managed to pull off.

Not him but it simply flew under my radar and by the time i heard of it, shit like Code Geass and Haruhi Suzumiya was where it was at

>tfw someone is finally brave enough to say it

Dub or sub for NGE? I hear both are good, does it matter or is one definitive?

There's a lot of people out there who actually have decent taste.

>Eva dub
>good

Oh come on, now you're being too obvious with the shitposting

You should read Yotsubato manga.
Also reading chapters with Sup Forums and Sup Forums is extremely comfy

raxephon is hot garbage and you know it

Well yeah, but it's still better than Eva

nothing is the evangelion of anything because nothing can compare to evangelion

Dub is good if you have nostalgia fort watching the show on VHS in the 90s when that's all that was available. There's literally no other reason to watch the dub.

>Evangelion
>Barely any causal relationship between elements in the world
>Threadbare hints at the meaningful relationships between elements in the world that do have meaningful relationships
>Shit show lost funding and so had to have an even more shit ending than it would have if the creator had managed to continue jacking off for another four seasons

Yeah nothing compares to evangelion

Yoko taro admitted multiple times to be fan of Evangelion and to be heavily inspired (and downright ripping it off sometimes), so its probable you will find some thematic resemblance.
A game that isnt inspired by evangelion but is praised for the same reasons (great characterization, mind fuck ending, great themes, etc) is MGS2

so we are in agreement that eva is one of the most unique shows of all time?

this, how the fuck did I forget Yotsuba

Haha you're welcome. Hmm I can't say for sure since I haven't played Xenoblade myself yet but I still think Xenogears holds up despite Disc 2 and especially the fun battle system. And that whole 2d sprites in 3d environments has a certain charm for me.
Lol that filename

No.

Xenogears as said already. In terms of similar content, and the 0 budget at the end.

With the movie it's pretty good.

It's more polished, has better characters, has actual original lore/background instead of copy pasted religious themes. Also has amazing music. and one of the only roles for attached[2].

Sure.

Well I know what I'm watching next thanks guys.

So why does 9S have to be killed when he finds out about humanity being gone? We literally saw him find out about humanity being dead and he didn’t go insane. He wasn't spewing the secret either. If they aren’t gonna scrap him why not just let him know about humans and tell him to keep it quiet and just focus on getting rid of machines? If yorha is disposed of in batches then they'll scrap him eventually anyways. So why risk the repetitive mindwipes that wear down his psyche and make it easy for him to go insane and possibly screw them over?

Its not about him going insane (although he seens to go insane, specially if he doenst have 2B to ground him), it is due the risk of leaking info.
He wanted to tell 2B, but didnt find the opportunity.
