Has there ever been a more obvious display of executive meddling at work?

They sucked the fucking soul out of that game like Shang Tsung.

Too much orange

I still liked playing fuse with friends but fuck me I could have been playing as a bad ass redhead in a trenchcoat.

I know, it sounds edgy as fuck but she looked great in that trailer

>They switched from 'We Want the Borderlands audience' to 'We Want the CoD audience' and ended up getting neither.
Beuno.

It was more like, "We want the Incredibles audience."

never forgive
never forget

Sorry guys, the focus group said it wasn't cowadooty enough.

I don't think I'll ever not be mad about this.

I still pray that everyone involved in the production of SotS2 gets anal cancer.

>removed the ability to play as other characters and powerbomb motherfuckers as Gladiolus
>can't go full Def Jam FFNY and slam soldiers head into car doors

I will never fucking accept FFXV when it was so much cooler before.

Fuck that shit.

I got you covered senpai,

The removal of the Insomnia invasion baffles me to this day, it would've been a perfect scene setter for the game. Instead we got Noct and his friends pushing a car and hanging around at a bunch of identical gas stations, then meeting the main villain of the game at a beach hotel.

At least Cidney was cute.

...

Not as much as I used to be, but still mad.

like tears in rain

...

>focus group think this is too childish

Respawn getting bought by EA tickled me the wrong fucking way that's for sure

It was more like, "We want overwatchs audiance" before overwatch was a thing.

>make one of the best FPS made in recent times
>get completely fucked because they release the game between Battefield and CoD
>get bought out by EA

Rest in fucking peace, this happens every time someone deals with EA.

Metal Arms 2 never ever

Do we know how TF2 did anyway? Word of mouth must have at least helped it in the long run.

>ditches the glorious black magic that is MTframework for Unreal or something
A sign of an awful developer. Also see: DmC

>Executives wanted the game to be a more straightforward, serious, GoW/CoD like shooter
>Industry shifted to wanting more stylized, character driven games anyway

What a waste.

More like the ME3 audience even the box art seems to mimic it.

They put it there to die.

TF1 had amazing first month sales, which contractually forced a guaranteed sequel from EA, but because its sales and community died so fast, EA didnt really wanna do it. But respawn forced them. So, in response, EA basically handed them their money and said "dont be late" and where left alone.

The problem was, they didnt want a TF3, so they burried it. Little to no marketing that wasnt set up from respawn itself (the MTDEW was them using their old CoD connections) and the vague "we are commited to the brand IP" answers when asked about the futures proved they just wanted to be done with RS. So they launched it a few weeks after BF1 and a like a week before CoD.

Then Nexon entered the picture and decided it wanted them. They made a public offer, and EA (who has the rights to match any offer and get first pick (ie, Nexon has to BEAT EA's offer and EA has to say we concide, and if EA matches the offer, respawn must go with EA) said fuck that noise, we arnt letting them go and paid pennies for them.

EA is currently acting like mid nWo run WCW. Just buying out who they can just to keep them out of the hands of others so they can continue to pump out quick products. They saw nothing in respawn they wanted, just talent leaving that they could force to stay

These wounds, they will not heal.

Everything squaresoft has done post enix merger, especially that shitty brave fencer musashi sequel.

What about Kingdom Hearts 2?

It was shit compared to 1. Nomura should never be anything more than an art guy, and maybe monster design. He is one of the reasons kh turned into a batshit convoluted mess.

I'm still mad about this one. LP2 was so good and then we get this garbage. Didn't even feel like the same series.

That's a pretty fair opinion. 2 was good in my opinion, but everything after was dedicated to making things more complex.

Yeah honestly 2 is a great game but it was the beginning of the end, and they will probably never recapture the magic of 1.

...

Maybe it's because I watched shitty fan videos on YouTube a lot when I was younger, but 2 always has that magic for me instead of one since I played it first.

1 was pretty trashy gameplay wise especially when compared to 2's refinement of the system. I do agree on the story though being way better in 1 however.

Looked already pretty mediocre before, the final game ended up being much worse than "mediocre".

Yeah, since they changed the game from FFVersusXIII to FFXV there was something about it that didn't feel right. What an unfinished mess.

FUCK.

Its been awhile since I played kh1 or 2 but I remember hating the floaty combat and reaction command shit in 2 and loving the slower more weighty combat in 1, plus 2 had that shitty mechanic where you have to use a combo finisher to beat a boss.

This had a lot of problems, but it had the best atmosphere of any MMO i've ever played.

The story had a massive war going on, and you could tell, as soon as you left the home city, there was trenches and massive robot battles and drop ships.

>Has there ever been a more obvious display of executive meddling at work?

Epic Mickey.

Guild Wars 2

Never been so dissapointed and confused

explain, I love hearing about behind the scenes fucked up corporate shit

I honestly think im the only one on Sup Forums who hated the game and am glad its dead. It did nothing good, everything felt buggy and bland and it just looked bad, even for its age. Thats not even getting into the interesting on paper but bad in reality concept of NPC enemies taking over towns.

>ITT: Things you are still mad about

No, Warren Spector is 100% to blame for Epic Mickey. He had complete control over everything. Just because he made one amazing game doesn't mean his other crappy games are due to corporate meddling.

We could have had a cool tactical FE game with demons and SMT Characters, or we could have had a cool SMT with a bunch of FE characters to serve as demons for you. Instead we got a shitty persona game.

>>removed the ability to play as other characters

that was patched in

but you have to manually make the change every fight. So even when SE added something good, they fuck it up somehow

Could you spoon feed a pleb some info if you have some spare time, love reading about flops like kingdom of amalur or toohuman.

>years later Blizz came up with Overwatch and earned billions with it
I wonder if the Overstrike devs think about killing themselves every now and then

Telltale dropped the fucking ball with this one. I kind of expected season 2 to not be as good as season 1, but holy shit the characters and the plot were absolutely retarded. They don't even try to pretend your choices matter either. I saved sarah in episode 4 only for her to have like 4 lines and die later in the episode anyways. Absolutely shameful.

Epic Mickey wasn't really a flop. People freaked the fuck out over the concept art when it was first released, and the actual final product was more safe and generic than the concept art had lead people to believe.

I'm sure they dream about pointing out how successful this stuff is to the executive who made the decision, and I'm sure that executive has already forgotten all about it.

Damn im glad I never caught wind of this, im looking at the concept art on google and wew lad it looks amazing.

sounds like

i liked #fe though, not even mad
hilarious the backlash given how enamored with waifus switchsoys are

that executive is probably still thinking about how to get the CoD audience to this day and consulting with 11 year old kids for ideas

Did they actually focus test with children for some games?
I heard about it before but I figured it was just a meme.

that's what they actually said when asked about the style shift, from cartoon heroes to srs bsns gayming

I just listened to a small documentary about what happened to this game. I remember playing it at launch and liking it, but felt it wasn't finished or polished before going back to FFXI or something.

Goddamn shame what the Koreans did to Tabula Rasa's development. Jesus Christ. And I'm not even a huge Garriot fan but they tried to fuck him over with a twenty inch dildo.

You want fucked up behind the scenes corporate shit, see dishonored 1 and prey 2 along with FONV. That several year span, bethesda went full borderline illegal

This thread might as well be renamed to shit EA did

>People STILL fall for the Meme that Epic Mickey was gonna be this crazy Grim n Dark shit.

Warren Spector is a massive Mickeyfag, he would have NEVER let that happen. He stated even before the game was out that those leaked concept arts wasn't even that, but rather pics to try out how far he could get away with shit before starting the ACTUAL project.

was EM still meddled with? Yes; tons of cool and still slightly dark stuff got cut out, but all those people who fell on the "It's gonna be a post apocalyptic grim n dark disney game!" was delusional from the start.

Idk about dishonored or prey but wasnt obsidian screwed out of a bonus by beth because nv scored a 84 instead of a 85 on metacritic or something?

Shit I think a grim dark disney game would be great, you know how old cartoons would sometimes get surreal and uncanny but still have that cartoony charm, would be pretty cool in a game imo.

Nobody is mad about this. Just confused.

season 3 any good? any other games like twd s1?

Almost picked RA3 because it disappointed me so much, but it was at least playable and this pile of shit actually killed the series permanently

I have never been more mad in my entire life.
>Shut down a popular game that was making a profit
>Refuse any and all buyouts for the IP, including a attempt by the current fucking development team
>Refuse all licensing attempts so people could at least just fucking play the game they love
>Sit on the IP and do nothing with it for years
>Force all interested parties involved in wanting to buy the IP to wait 8-14 months of no communication only to say no in the end
>STICK FUCKING STATESMAN IN A SHITTY FUCKING MOBA THAT NEVER EVEN GOT OUT OF FUCKING BETA JUST SO YOU CAN KEEP THE FUCKING IP OF THE GAME YOU DONT EVEN FUCKING CARE ABOUT SO IT CAN ROT IN THE BACKROOM OF SOME SHITTY FUCKING NO NAME SOUTH KOREAN OFFICE

I WILL NEVER NOT BE MAD YOU FUCKING GOOKS, WE SHOULD HAVE LET CHINA/NORTH KOREA ROLL OVER YOU FUCKING FAGGOTS

Reminder your crew is still trapped forever on a planet and the mass relays are destroyed so no one can get home and the galactic civilizations are permanently isolated

>scrapped in favour of Dead Island: Parkour Edition

The extended ending retconned the destroyed mass relays, they're just damaged now. At least until ME:A where they are unable to contact the milky way, implying that everyone is dead.

this hurt.

>Shit I think a grim dark disney game would be great, you know how old cartoons would sometimes get surreal and uncanny but still have that cartoony charm, would be pretty cool in a game imo.

The game was gonna have some dark elements, like cartoons of olde, at least to some degree. But the first "Concept art" shown were hyper realistic dark pics with rotten bodies and skelletons that made it super obvious they weren't gonna be in the actual product.

However, it didn't stop people to believe it would.

The REAL executive meddling came from later changes that dummed it down tho.

>An entire world based on the Alice in Wonderland maze cut because that shitty Tim Burton movie was coming out and they didn't want brand confusion.

>Mickey was gonna have a physical morality system, where he'd look more like her round late-retro era self when doing mostly heroic stuff and look more like his white and black Plane Crazy look if he did more mischievous things.

>Actual fights against the Phantom Blot were planned, the guy still looked somewhat scary back them (Less dead rotten body, more Chernabog-ish)

> Lots of reference characters got cut despite the setting being about scrapped or unused concepts of disney, most replaced with generic animal people. (Example: Scrapped concepts of Tinkerbell were going to be used in the Neverland section but Disney said no because they thought it'd cause confusion with their Disney Fairies brand.)

And if people think EM got executive meddles to hell, the sequel got it even WORSE.

>10 years and still no closure

Fucks sake

This looks great, what happened

>LP4 is never going to be a thing

>See thread
>pic related still hasn't been posted.

It still burns inside of me.

The shitstorm that happened when MML3 was cancelled was one of the first things I remember seeing on Sup Forums.

>Dishonored
Long story short, Dishonored was to be published by a small 3rd party publisher before it went under. When it went under, bethesda bought the publishing rights at the bankruptcy sale. They asked arkane if they would be willing to change the contract. The reason given was they couldnt funnel more money into them unless it was on paper (ie, for better computers, more dev time, better engine, much better marketing, etc). The only thing that would have to change for them was the milestones because they wanted to add some and reword some, to make the investors happy. Arkane agreed. Milestones are suppose to be dead set goals. Have working alpha. Have playable weapons. Have alpha multiplayer ready, etc. Bethesda had one that was "have shippable graphics". Since bethesda is the one who decided what "shippable" was, they kept failing that milestone. Payments are made via milestones, so basically bethesda cut off their money. Zenimax, the parent company of bethesda, offered a solution. A loan for 6 months pay. It was that or they go under and bethesda finds a new studio and they are all out of jobs. They took the loan and failed all 3 submits. Zeni called in the loan and offered them 2 options. Bankruptcy court and they get the IP for basically free and they lose their jobs, or they wipe the debt clean and they buy the company, its IP's and all of their holdings for 2c on the dollar. They had no choice but to agree and thats how bethesda came to own arkane.

With almost no changes to the models or textures, it passed the milestone a week after the purchase papers where signed.
This is also why the game seemed to be missing 2-3 levels and just jumps to the final mission after saving the princess. They spent almost 8 months of dev time trying to get the milestone.

Same exact thing happened with HHS and prey. Only HHS decided not to take the loan and went into bankruptcy protection.

>FONV
Basically that. They promised a ton of bonus money in lieu of the % per unit sold as per the norm. It would have been something like 3-5x what they would have made on the royalties per unit, so they agreed. What they didnt expect was for bethesda to give them the beta engine of FO3 instead of the patched up Brotherhood of steel version, not uphold their end and playtest it (a publishers job), and even went on a full marketing campaign a week before the game came out to not give games good grades based on their IP or studio name, but to give fair and honest reviews based on what they played, bugs and all. They even threatened a bunch of smaller metacreitic review approved sites (think of sites like justicehammerreviews or lensoftruth, small 'mom and pop' esque sites. to pull ad funding if they didnt adhear to their new "review fair" policy (ie, score it lower or no money for you) and the result was them getting 1 point under and getting $0 for FONV or its expansions. The ad campaign ended shortly after release and hasnt really been seen again.

It "didn't meet expectations" despite every gameplay video looking like Hexen collided with Dark Messiah and receiving a lot of positive feedback. Dead Island 2 disappeared at some point too, Techland might actually be retarded.

Jesus fuck, that sounds soul crushing.

FEEL FREE TO DIE WHEN YOU'VE HAD ENOUGH

I will never not be mad.

store.steampowered.com/app/226920/Hellraid/
it isn't completely dead?

What the fuck. If that's true, what a bunch of snakes.

You have any proof?

>I will never not be mad.
Our game died so your game that your so mad at could haveflow shards.
Fuck you.

So this is what America, the land of freedom, is like.

...

...

Only came here to post this. I was about to ask if I was the only one still angry or something.

Team Fortress 2 did very well, user.

>Might and Magic XI
>the shit that took place after the release

>Guild Wars 2
>Diablo 3
>Mass Effect 3
>Street Fighter x Tekken
>NFS Most Wanted (Criterion)
2012 was the year of absolute shit

Go look it up.
The only thing thats harder to find is the ad campaign bethesda did

Funny enough, thats the only game EA has openly apologized for rushing out the door and for killing its studio with its bad decisions.

Not even made by the same developers. It was around the time Con Man was still in charge of Capcom and got a boner for western developers.

When did this happen? II vaguely remember it being around 2012.

diablo 3 took a few years but it ended up fine.

This and Super Monday Night Combat
