>every shmup is a bullet hell
It's not a shmup either
What's with all the EtG hate? I must've missed the initial thread where this was decided
It came out on the Switch and we can't have that
So it was just a consolewar thread, pathetic.
I've seen harsh criticism of it since release. It's not unplayably terrible but the devs fucked up hard with how many shit weapons they added.
Too many people on Sup Forums played Nuclear Throne and EtG is really slow compared to EtG. Nonetheless, they're really different games and EtG has more in common with Binding of Isaac compared to NT, which is more of an arcade shoot-em-up that is also pretty shallow once you get competent at looping.
BoI is was never that good to begin with, nothing should be that tediously frustrating to play without proper power ups.
Why can't you do multiplayer with anyone but the stupid cultist?
>roguelite bullet hell thread
>no pic related
Hated by a lot if anons here sense release
Mostly because they're shit and need to be carried by good drops
Any news on the update? Feels like it was announced forever ago.
That's the thing, EtG is designed around being beatable with whatever you get, (except lich before you REALLY get good).
But Sup Forums wants to get carried by good drops instead of learning the game.
Was delayed so manchildren could play it on the switch. Early this year most likely. I'd say by april.
etg is slow and difficult
people want games that are fast and easy
Final Boss
Blue Revolver
Monolith
All three are much better titles than Enter the Gungeon which isn't even a proper shmup in the general sense that "bullet hells" refer to.
>took like 16 hours to complete a run, past kill and all
Didn't expect the game to be at least that hard
Guns are mostly shit and you have to save them for the bullet sponge bosses. Makes the game tedious. Infinite ammo would make the game a masterpiece.
Geez, it's almost like you get at LEAST one gun every floor, meaning you can have room clearers then boss killers. Oh wait, you're retarded.
What game isn't designed to be beatable with whatever you get?
The problem with it is it's boring as hell to chip at bullet sponges with a surplus of weak ass weapon.
None of the bosses are bullet sponges except old king.
Lmao, It's one of the slowest, clunky piece of crap that I have ever played
>people want games that are fast and easy
No they want games that are fast and engaging.
>he's mad user was right
That's why bloodborne is so popular on Sup Forums compared to dark souls, they like it fast and easy.
No but the regular enemies are. What shitty game increases the health of basic fodder without at least making it different color? This shit was figured out decades ago.
I don't really know or care about either of those games. People dislike Enter the Gungeon because it's sluggishly paced. Nuclear Throne is often used as a comparison and Throne in comparison is just a much faster game across the board. Enemies die quickly and so can the player, and from the very moment you start up the game you hop in and start shooting within seconds. And if you die? Well just restart and you're back at it again. It's pretty much a seamless gameplay experience. It's not without its problems but Gungeon is a much more heavily padded game in comparison.
so your complaint is that you want palette swaps?
The game is all about pattern recognition.
If they changed the colours of shotgunkin for example, you would expect a different bullet pattern then probably complain when you're hit that it was unfair because you thought it was something else.
>Terrible RNG at release
>Horrible weapons that are weaker than the starting pistol
>Sprawling maps that take 15 minutes to complete
>Unreasonable shortcut requirements, based entirely off RNG
>No item synergy what so ever
>Most items aren't even worth a key anyway
>Tedious
It's not a bad game, it just could have been so much better. The devs really dropped the ball. They made a decent game, that could have been a great game with minor tweaks.
REALLY don't get the "bullet sponge" complaints about this game.
Are you guys just really shitty? It takes three shots from the marine's default pistol to kill a bullet kin. You can kill 3 of them without having to reload and still have a round to spare.
Even more difficult enemies drop quickly, if you, you know, actually hit them.
Most of the weapons you get are shit, and by the time you make it to the final floors enemies take about six hits with the starting guns to kill. It's annoying and unfun.
Maybe they patched it though. I haven't played since a few months after release.
That's the least amount of effort I would expect, instead I get to waste more ammo for no reason.
Then just don't increase the health for no reason or make a new enemy like they did but more.
>final floor
>starting gun
why?
If they halved the health of everything in the game maybe it would be fun. Theres a reason people call it enter the Spongeon.
Why are there suddenly so many ETG threads? Is it just Switchfags? Gungeon is a decent, but VERY flawed game and it's been pretty much unanimously agreed upon that Nuclear Throne shits on it in every way.
>Then just don't increase the health for no reason or make a new enemy like they did but more.
I'll be honest I 100% don't see why they didn't do that, but at the same time it doesn't detract from my experience and isn't enough of a reason to say the games shit.
I don't know if they changed it since I played it a few months ago but ammo drops were low, and the weapons fell into two categories:
Too good to use on normal enemies so save them for the boss
Too boring/bad to use so just use your pistol
When the game psuedopunishes you for using guns the game has failed.
The majority of the weapons you get in drops are shit, and some even do less damage. So you save the good ones for the bosses, because someone thought it was a good idea to make sure they're all limited use.
>Most of the guns are shit.
Not going to bother trying to change your mind, but I disagree. Most guns can function as either a room clear gun or a boss gun. You get minimum one gun a floor depending on key drops/your ability and if you can't beat the floor 1 boss with a default weapon (I would argue that if you can't perfect it with the default weapon consistently) You're bad.
I would say it's rare for me to have a loadout I can't work with up until the 4th floor. Past that point luck is a factor, sure, but it's hardly the only factor.
I don't think ETG isn't engaging, its more skill based than all the other crap roguelites, it's just slow and incredibly stingy with items, most of them are shit and you run out of ammo all the time
EtG's main problem is it's stuck in between Isaac and NT but doesn't excel at any of the things that those two games nail. BoI has way more content and NT has way better gameplay so EtG ends up in the middle of the road and mediocre.
The guns you get are either too good to use on normal enemies, or a waste of time. I never said I couldn't get past the first floor. I was saying that I use the default weapon the majority of the time. And I think that's poor design.
>some
The only ones worse then a starting weapon are klobbe and the peashooter, and you're not getting only those weapons every run.
>30 FPS action game
>good gameplay
>30 FPS action game
>Still better than EtG
OP must have choked to death on all of the dicks before he finished his sentence.
RIP OP
Guns like the phoenix take more hits to kill than the starting weapon, unless you're standing right next to the enemies. And even then it's only on par with the pistol.
EtG is the only roguelite I've ever quit due to outright boredom, and there are many other games that do the same thing better and have been mentioned in this thread.
Why do you use the default weapon most of the time? There are a ton of weapons that function well as room clear weapons, by the end of the first floor you should have at least two weapons in addition to your default. Ammo drops are frequent if you're clearing rooms without taking damage, and shops are common enough not to mention munchers.
Once you've unlocked some stuff the phoenix isn't a frequent drop. DoT guns like Flamehand and the POXCannon are really good for clearing rooms.
Yea or Nay to enemies spawning after a room clear? I think it slows the game even more down and would rather have them all at once.
Binding of Isaac Afterbirth Plus is a better game than it and I fucking hate that piece of shit expansion.
When I played ammo drops were absolutely not common. And I've unlocked plenty of weapons and I routinely get horrible drops. It got to the point where I would use the default pistol for all of the first floor, the oubliette, the and the second floor, unless I absolutely had to or got a weapon that wasn't complete ass.
Undertale is my favorite Touhou.
the ammo system for the game is fucked, forcing you to be stingy with your weapons no matter how well you play. watch some of the top runners and even they have problems with ammo or guns on bad luck runs. having to clear the first floor with the starting weapon is a slog, and thats what you need to do if you want a guaranteed weapon drop from the boss
only if
a)the spawned enemies are avoidable (room does not lock itself)
b)the spawning is telegraphed properly
c)the spawning itself is avoidable
>Pilot runs for quests / shortcut unlocks
I genuinely tried liking it, but it's just not fun doing the first floor over and over until you get decent RNG to kill the first three bosses with and then be stuck with shit guns since no ammo dropped or appeared in the shop, nor is powering through with only the starting pistol/revolver since bosses take for-fucking-ever and mobs just become boring to whittle down
Also item pools are too small and unlocked items have a non-existant chance of appearing
Imagine if every item in The Binding of Isaac had limited use, and didn't have synergy with other items.
>make a top down shooter
>all of the guns are inaccurate
>enemies are bullet sponges past the second floor
>every room has 3 or more waves of bullet sponge enemies
>good
Day of the Uninstall Wizard soon, shitcunt.
Terribly unbalanced, terribly optimized, shitty ammo system, little content.
I gave it it's due. The drop rates at release, and the ammo system killed this game. It really could have been great. It's decent fun, but hamstrung by antifun design choices. Even the go to Enter the Gungeon YouTuber stopped playing it after like a year.
this really sums it up, when it's stated clearly it's such a fucking awful idea and the whole game is just trying to overcome it with coats of paint
there are alternatives. monolith had a really good system where ammo is generous, but you can only carry one gun and when you pick up another you salvage the first for cash, so there is an actual choice involved regarding how long to carry a gun and whether or not to spend money on ammo
I wouldn't call this a bullet hell
but I sure do enjoy the fuck out of it so whatever
How to play enter the gungeon shitter edition
>start as huntress
>use crossbow for first two floors
>one shot everything
>never open brown chests unless you have a million keys
>force boss to drop guns
>force shop to sell keys
>designate certain guns for room clearing and other for boss fights
>maximize ammo chests by switching guns less frequently
>when you get better just play whoever you want to
Congratulation, you can now clear the 5th floor on 95% of runs when you learn to dodge
ll.
Try it again when the update comes out, maybe the Turbo mode will be worth while.
I am as well. I enjoy unlocking the weapons and a lot of them are fun to use and can take down a boss rather quickly. It would just be nice if I was better at it.
Shit game, no synergies, terrible loot pool, fucking retarded ammo system forcing you to use the shit starting weapon, trash enemies get double and triple health each floor, armor doesn't protect your perfect boss fight reward, unecessary large rooms. EtG is so bad it makes post-Steakmunds isaac playable.
>no synergies vs. entirely reliant on synergies
>terrible loot pool vs terrible loot pool
>retarded ammo system vs. same weapon for the whole game
>scaling enemy hp vs. damage cap
>shit large rooms vs. shit large rooms
They're about even.
Yeah except EtG is worse in everyway to rebirth
At least one gun? Wow. With how much ammo? Oh right, fuck all.
That same weapon gradually gets better and better with each damage boosting item like small Rock, The Pact or Abbadon. Unlike Gungeon where it's still a piece of fucking shit from floor 1 to 5. But I guess it has infinite ammo so that makes uo for it.
You can completely break isaac and kill the final boss in seconds.
Gungeon might as well tie your hands behind your back. You rarely feel powerful. This is coming from someone with twice as much time in Gungeon as Isaac.
I can barely make progress in this game honestly. The bosses are rough.
wow just git gud at rng fag
>people actually have ammo problems in this game
I don't understand. Just force a gun drop and a key. You will get 2 guns a floor average and ammo drops are pretty common. You would have to be the absolute worst shot in the world or be stupid with handling ammo to run out constantly
Which other games are you referring to? I only saw bullet hells mentioned, not rouge likes.
>Just force a gun drop and a key.
What did he mean by this?
This, just get fucking lucky like me, idiots.
During launch the drops were utter garbage.
If you don't pick up a key before the store then the store is guaranteed to sell a key
If you don't get a gun on that floor then the boss pedestal will have a gun
On every floor one chest is a guaranteed gun and the other is an item
What's with the shit mapping of this game? How the fuck are you suppose to find a secret room compared to something compressed and simple like Isaac?
Sounds like casual handholding as h*ck 2bh
You look it up on youtube like everyone else, stupid.
>NOT ENOUGH GUNS GAME IS SHIT
>lol you can make the game give you guns if you understand the mechanics? Handholding garbage
Why are you implying I am that other man?
I wouldn't really call it a bullethell but it's a pretty fun game.
It's not that the game doesn't give you enough guns. It's that it doesn't have enough good ones. There's no middle ground. Either they're so good you can't risk wasting ammo. Or they're so bad you might as well not even pick them up.
I got an "updated" notification like two days ago, were there any important changes?
>First time buying the Blooded scarf after unlocking it, around floor 4
I'VE MADE A TERRIBLE MISTAKE
