Xenoblade 2

Why the fuck did they give Mythra all the cool powers if Pyra was supposed to be the main girl?

>>Somehow this is a bad thing

It's not on its own but it isn't done well at all. Rex's goals and motivations aren't relatable because I don't buy into the romance

>If you think about it, the plot of this game is Rex and Pyra's love. To me, the elysium and father were secondary aspects.

Which flops completely thanks to the illusion of choice and better options

They're both the main girl. You're not that idiot who keeps insisting that Mythra is just a third wheel, are you?

No, I picked Mythra and felt dirty when Rex was screaming her name at the end.

Why the fuck did they give Tora the cool powers if Rex was supposed to be the main character?

Pyra is Mythra you dumbass. They share the same memories just different personalities and it's revealed they both love him equally

well, you shouldn't have done that then.

But Rex doesn't seem to care for them equally.

I did it because I prefer Mythra

>It's not on its own but it isn't done well at all. Rex's goals and motivations aren't relatable because I don't buy into the romance

You literally don't need to "buy into" the romance. The story works absolutely fine if you just understand that Rex is devoted to Pyra. First for saving his life. And then when he realises how much she (and Mythra) have suffered and how he needs to help them.

Literally the only thing you need to buy into is that Rex's key character moment is when he devotes himself fully to Pyra/Mytha- when he gives up on the pretense of doing what he's doing for a promise, or just to find Elysium to help everyone, but when he is clearly, straightforwardly doing it FOR HER.

He accepts them, trusts them and is able to dedicate his life to them without fear- doing what Addam couldn't.

It doesn't matter if you buy into him wanting to kiss Pyra, or Mythra wanting to make out with him. It works perfectly fine without that. Although I think it's a bit dumb to really have such issues with a pretty clear and obvious romance

>Which flops completely thanks to the illusion of choice and better options

Fucking hell. Just be honest and say "But I like Nia!"

There's no illusion of choice. There is no point in the game where it gives you the option to spend time with Nia instead of Pyra/Mythra or where it pretends that there's romantic choices.

Nia is never, ever, put up as someone the players can choose to have Rex romance.

See, this sucks for me because I love Nia, I think she's a great character and I have fun talking about her. But I fucking hate talking about her with salty retards that get mad at Rex/Xenoblade because she didn't get to suck his dick (at least, not per canon).

Fine faggot. BUT I LIKE NIA

But Rex doesn't seem to care for them equally.

This, so much! Let's list all the scenes where Rex shows a preference between them or when pushes Mythra aside for Pyra, okay

1.

Is this all you fucking guys can talk about with this game holy shit

Does someone have that image listing all the characters and what weapons they can use for Break, Topple, Launch and Smash effects?

It's just one guy with blunderfag tier autsim

...

That's the one. Thanks

So how exactly do you kill a Nopon? The only way it seems is to eat them. Looking at it, how much meat are on them, considering how fat they are.

Fuck off Boreas

Fuck off Lin

I LIKE NIA TOO!

But the plot is about Rex and Pyra/Mythra. Can you imagine how it would have gone if there'd been some option to date Nia? It would have been a joke.

>Rex's whole character is about his dedication to Pyra/Mythra
>His key character moment is him literally dedicating his life to them
>When he reunites with them he surpasses Addam and shows he's able to accept/love/understand them without fear, taking on their burdens and their wish to die, and giving them a place in the world regardless
>...
>But he's dating the cute Catgirl though

Being mad that Melia got screwed over is absolutely 100% understandable, because Melia and the audience both thought she had a legitimate chance to win and it would have worked perfectly fine with the plot. It seemed like she was setup for victory and so the plot twist felt cruel. It left Melia in the dust and left the people who liked her feeling jerked around.

Nia isn't like that at all.

There's no point in the game where you think Rex is going to choose Nia over Pyra/Mythra. There's no point where she's portrayed as a key love interest.

And Nia herself doesn't suffer from it. She never expects that she has a chance, she's perfectly happy with Rex being with Pyra/Mythra, she adores both of them. She gets jealous when Rex is with Fan, but she only ever encourages him with Pyra/Mythra. She's literally smiling at the end when she pushes him towards them.

Honestly, just be happy with the game setting up room for a foursome ending and headcanon that in.

>Fucking hell. Just be honest and say "But I like Nia!"

You're half right. I like Nia, and Mythra, and Poppi, and even Morag. Pyra is the only one who does nothing for me because she seems to show up in every RPG I've ever played. I did everything I could to push her out of the story as much as I could and felt like that was what the game was trying to allow me to do with the name choice, and she still wouldn't go away. Now, I've seen plenty of protags get stuck on the worst girls in their games before, but this was one of the rare cases where the story revolves around their obsession with them and it kept me from really caring about anything that was going on until chapter 7 hit.

Xenoblade 2 is a game with a garbage MC that still manages to be good thanks to being carried by a stellar supporting cast. Why does pointing this out cause so much controversy?

Why can't I discuss and critique the writing and characters? I've already killed all the Superbosses. I can only talk about how chain attacks break the game so many times

I haven't played X, can someone explain why everyone hates Tatsu (and Lin) so much?

>Tho, does that song mean that they can't stay for long or some shit like that ?

Nah, there's no reason to take it that literally. There's no reason why they should have only a limited time with him.

Hell, basically the entire party except Tora and Morag should have hugely extended lives.

Nia's a Flesh Eater, Zeke's a Blade Eater, and Rex is an Aegis Driver, they'll all live for hundreds of years. 500+ minimum.

>Can you imagine how it would have gone if there'd been some option to date Nia? It would have been a joke.

FF7 did it 20 years ago and people like the game because of it. I've never seen a game better handle multiple romance options

Of course not. If given the choice, he'll pick Pneuma over the other two in a heartbeat.

>I've never seen a game better handle multiple romance options
>One meaningless date in the first disc
>Then railroaded into a single girl ending regardless
>Only difference is whether or not Cloud gets his dick wet

Oh yeah, wow, it's mind-blowing.

By that logic you'd be absolutely 100% fine with XBC2 if there was a point in, I dunno, Mor Ardain where you could go on a date with one girl (or Tora) and could choose which one you took. It wouldn't change anything and it'd be meaningless in the grand scheme of things, as well as never mentioned again. But that'd change things for you?

>Rex's goals and motivations aren't relatable
Well yea user I could see how a happy and hard working MC would be unrelatable for you

I hate that the only smash option for Rex is that faggot bird Suzaku.

>that pic
>HEY HEY YOU YOU I COULD BE YOUR GIRLFRIEND

>mfw no Rex/Zeke date

Every start of a new chapter we're treated to the wonderful joke of Lyn cooking Tatsu, each time in a different dish.
Which means you're going to see this potentially 10 times.

Is Indol permanently blocked after Amalthus decides to kill everything? I already beat him and I still can't go there

There literally is

>He hasn't done the Tantal "Yaoi in the Snow" sidequest
>He didn't literally (accidentally) invent the BL Fiction genre

>>One meaningless date in the first disc
>It wouldn't change anything and it'd be meaningless in the grand scheme of things, as well as never mentioned again. But that'd change things for you?

It's far from meaningless. It reflects the choices the players have been making up to that point in the game and presents them with the outcome they're most likely to enjoy. Of course, the game stacks the odds in favor of Aeris and Tifa so the average person not interested in that stuff will end up with one of them and get the normal story while not straight up giving the finger to anyone who likes Yuffie or those who don't want to be bothered with any of the girls and end up with Barret. There is literally no downside to how FF7 handled it.

The existence of the name selection shows an awareness of this reality on the XBC2 team, but it didn't go nearly far enough. This problem is made worse by the largely coincidental fact that the girl who gets left out in the cold happened to be the game's most well developed character

>Then railroaded into a single girl ending regardless
>Only difference is whether or not Cloud gets his dick wet

Not really, one version is platonic and one is romantic. It doesn't force Tifa on anyone who stil preferred Aeris. Again, nobody losses on this

And of course, FF7 could do all of this because the romance was a secondary element of the story and not a primary one. Rex lacks a single compelling line or scene that doesn't revolve around his Aegis-boner. Meanwhile Shulk had people flipping their shit with a single line he didn't have to be present for. Told me all I needed to know

I'd grind for it

HAVE FUN CHAPS!

Yeah. It's gone dude.

But just look at how fat they are. They must be juicy and flavorful. We need to get rid of the scourge known as Nopon, and if people start regularly cooking them, we'll get rid of them faster.

>Meanwhile Shulk had people flipping their shit with a single line he didn't have to be present for. Told me all I needed to know
>we get a super cool nod to the previous entry where everything comes together nicely
It could have been Reyn saying "YOU CRACK ME UP SHULK" at some point and people would have been flipping their shit all the same.
It's especially good in this case because both games are happening parallel to one another.

...

I hate that a blade that he doesn’t have all the time is the only one he can use to topple. Would’ve made the solo fights against Nia and Morag a lot fucking easier, I had to abuse Roc to win them. Not sure who the fuck thought those were a good idea anyway

Say the games were released in reverse order. Give me a single line from Rex that would have had the same impact on anyone.

How do I cheese the 130 superboss from the ice? I am only 91

>Rex is an Aegis Driver,
why would that extend his lifespan?

I don't know, I haven't finished yet, I'm still on chapter 5 and got spoiled

Crit healing or 8 orb chain attack with Zenobia

>Zeke: Do you like us, Rex?
>Nia: Oh, I think Shellhead's about to propose
>*Pyra gasps in horror*

Specifically stated in story to do so

in what scene?

There's a sidequest where you help make a homoerotic novel starring Rex, Zeke, and Morag

>Not really, one version is platonic and one is romantic. It doesn't force Tifa on anyone who stil preferred Aeris. Again, nobody losses on this

Okay, so you didn't actually play FF7.

>Rex lacks a single compelling line or scene that doesn't revolve around his Aegis-boner.

And you didn't play XBC2 either.

What're you in this thread for exactly?

how about farming him for legendary core or are there better options?

Then you aren't far enough in the game to understand a lot of my frustrations. Rex's character never grows beyond wanting to bone Pyra and literally never produces a hype line of dialogue comparable to anything from Shulk

The one thing I really found tragic in a non-narrative way is just how damn good Shulk's VA was still at delivering the line and stood out head over shoulders over the rest. Except Poppi. I loved Poppi.

Meeting Amalthus for the first time

That's because Adam Howden is Adam Howden

Reeking Douglas in the Bandits hideout in Gormott.

>Okay, so you didn't actually play FF7.

There's one scene where she simply talks to him and one where they screw. It's a hell of a lot more platonic than Rex saying "Nia, I love you too."

>And you didn't play XBC2 either.

Give me one right now.

Amalthus tells Pyra he's live so long because he is Malos's Driver. There is no reason to not believe that, but you can also think he's lying since absorbing a Blade's core Crystal is explicitly shown to do the same and we know he absorbed Haze's core

Pyra cant stand the idea that someone is after Rex besides herself and Mythra

>Rex's character never grows beyond wanting to bone Pyra

God this opinion fucking sucks. And it's annoying because it's the simplest, most basic reading of the game so people can just go "Huurrr, so true!" without putting a second's thought into it.

Rex's character is tied to Pyra, yes. That's true. That's also the fucking point. His character growth responds to and reflects his relationship with her, she's important to him. But it's never about wanting to bone her and the idea that he should have some completely separate character arc that has nothing to do with her is just fucking strange.

He's a random dude who winds up in an extraordinary situation well out of his depth. He starts with a promise to Pyra, and is happy to help her because he wants to find Elysium for his own reasons too.

His growth is literally throwing both those ideas away and dedicating himself to Pyra, not because of a promise, and not because Elysium could help people, but because he wants to be with her, together, in Elysium. He wants to help her and to help her find what she's looking for.

He's got an entire fucking speech about this.

...

>He's a random dude who winds up in an extraordinary situation well out of his depth.

I played Zelda Wind Waker 15 years ago and it did this better without the protagonist even having to speak

>His growth is literally throwing both those ideas away and dedicating himself to Pyra, not because of a promise, and not because Elysium could help people, but because he wants to be with her, together, in Elysium. He wants to help her and to help her find what she's looking for.

That's what I said. He wants to bone her

Just don't play in English.

Dude you're fucking delusional.

Firstly for thinking that FF7 had some meaningful choice relating to a single date at the Golden Saucer that was never brought up again.

And secondly for thinking the game isn't clearly, obviously and openly Cloud/Tifa, no matter who you chose. Even if you don't get enough points for her to fuck. They're together regardless, it's not even in question.

>Take XBC2.
>Add one single option about a 1/3 of the way through to go on a date with one of your party members
>It changes nothing, affects nothing and is never mentioned again
>Rex still clearly ends up with Pyra/Mythra
>This is somehow a monumental shift in literally everything

That's what you're saying.

You are actually that dumb.

It's true though

>I played Zelda Wind Waker 15 years ago and it did this better without the protagonist even having to speak

Wrong. Funnily enough, if you'd actually played WW there's a whole lott'a problems that come into play with Link's character in the game that're never addressed (eg. Apathetic to the point of being amoral in multiple situations).

Nevermind that he's still clearly the destined Hero, the only thing is that WW makes it canon the Hero isn't passed on by blood.

He's literally a warrior chosen by the Gods.

That's very fucking different.

>Lol I'll just repeat myself! XD

So concede that you can't dispute anything I said then?

You can replace Tora's name with any other playable character and this is true.

Might not be worth arguing with him if he really is an Aerith x Cloud fag.

If it was true he wouldn't have been able to wield the third sword.

How do you guys justify using Zeke in your party? He's a worse DPS than Rex that requires more investment, he can't heal, and he is a worse tank than Tora/Morag.

I think hes a cool character but I just see 0 reason to use him

So he's a horny indecisive teen. Big whoop

We really need translations for this.

I mean, everyone's got cool shit. I find Rex the most fun to play because of Mythra and Pneuma though myself.

Conversely I can't deal with Morag at all because I can't help but feel that two flame whips should be fucking fast, but it's just so goddamn slow.

Amalthus is obviously lying. Even Mythra's response to his answer shows that she thinks he's lying. Mythra would obviously be aware of an Aegis Driver having an extended lifespan since she's a fucking Aegis herself, but she had no idea why Amalthus had lived that long.
Plus, if being the driver of an Aegis extended one's lifespan, why is Addam dead???
Amalthus has long life because he absorbed Haze's crystal, not because he's Malos' driver

If you can't understand what the character's motivations are, perhaps you should ask for clarification instead of making shit up.

I basically couldn't find a use for Zeke before ch7.

After ch7 there's no reason not to use him, since the party composition changes from Tank/Healer/DPS to Tank/DPS/DPS

I thought it was because he absorbed all the crystal? He became something similar to one of those quasi immortal creatures in Torna.

The moment Rex gets his last HLR you can just ditch Nia as a dedicated healer and go ATK/ATK/TNK for your party.
All the investment Zeke needs is for you to get him Zenobia or KOS-MOS.

>Mythra would obviously be aware of an Aegis Driver having an extended lifespan since she's a fucking Aegis herself, but she had no idea why Amalthus had lived that long.

Why would she know it just because of that? She just is an Aegis, she didn't design them and the only Driver she's ever had is Addam.

>Plus, if being the driver of an Aegis extended one's lifespan, why is Addam dead???

He separated himself from Mythra and sealed her away I suppose. We don't know how long he lived either, it must have been quite a while if he crafted the Spirit Crucible though.

>We don't know how long he lived either, it must have been quite a while if he crafted the Spirit Crucible though.
he did that right after the war

So how about we talk gameplay for once. I bought the game a couple of days ago, Just started chapter 3. Can someone explain to me in retardese how does blade combos work? Like what do I need to do to get hana's mega explosion or raiko's 1,000,000 volts for example
on a consistent basis?

You're clearly the one that's never played either game.

I replaced Rex as soon as I got him and he was outdamaging Rex by a crazy margin, especially after I overdrived Zenobia to him

>Firstly for thinking that FF7 had some meaningful choice relating to a single date at the Golden Saucer that was never brought up again.

It's meaningful for the player which is what matters.

>And secondly for thinking the game isn't clearly, obviously and openly Cloud/Tifa, no matter who you chose. Even if you don't get enough points for her to fuck. They're together regardless, it's not even in question.

If you go for the ending where they fuck they do. The have two outcomes her because it isn't concrete, but reflective of the player's decisions up to that. You are so desperate for everything to have a concrete answer that it's pitiful.

I don't mind that Rex being with Pyra is the most likely result. What I do mind is the game pretending like it will give you more influence on how the story plays out by introducing Mythra and Nia but then forcing them to the sidelines when it matters. Mythra's debut is the first moment in the game with some hype to it and Nia's confession scene is still a scene that puts me in a good mood whenever I watch it, but I feel like I was being punished by the game for getting emotionally invested in the "wrong" character.

And yes, I know the name choice has Mythra say "I love you" at the end but it feels so last second and tacked on that it might as well have not even been there

>Nevermind that he's still clearly the destined Hero, the only thing is that WW makes it canon the Hero isn't passed on by blood.

Only because of retcons and other stuff years later. Taken on its own, it's about Link building himself up into a new hero worthy of succeeding the Hero of Time.

>Apathetic to the point of being amoral in multiple situations
>People actually care about this being an issue with Link of all fucking people

Don't bother, Rex is simply never going to be as complex and nuanced a main character as Shulk. Shulk is the perfect main character for a JRPG and Rex is an anime every man

>why is Addam dead
Are you retarded?

Do you remember the part where he literally stepped down and sealed Mythra away?

I've got a huge Tifa folder I dump constantly. I get the bang Tifa option everytime, but I still acknowledge and respect the game for making it optional and not demanding supreme loyalty to my girl of choice

Top right corner is the path of element specials (in increasing levels) of what you need to do to activate it. It will close off the other branch when you've picked a path during combat so it's easier to see what element you need next.

top right. shows you which elements to use

>complex and nuanced a main character as Shulk
Smashfags actually believe this

When you do a Blade special it starts a combo, in the top right corner of the screen it will show you the sequence of which elements you need to use to continue the combo, you have to use at least a level 2, then a level 3 special to use it
Each element you start the combo with will have a different sequence of elements you can use

You see that flow chart that appears in the upper right corner? That's the path for your Blade combos. When you use a special, it starts it. A timer at the top of the screen will start to tick down.

1 million volts needs you to start with volt and then do a level 2 electric special. At the point where you are, this can be pretty hard, since you can't attack nearly as fast as you can later in the game. Use pouch items that give special recharge or art recharge. This will allow you to pull these moves off with more consistency.

Malos also separated himself from Amalthus since Malos didn't revert to his crystal when Amalthus died

Why is poppi alpha in cutscenes in QTs place anyway?

He's got more than Rex did. His start as a protagonist out for revenge only to realize his mistakes when it's revealed the Bionis was the aggresor all along is at least something

>XC1fags actually believe this.

This fucking Shulkshlurping has gotten completely out of hand

maybe you should stop speed reading through the tutorials, dumbass.

Because Alpha is the cutest

>Shitting on XC1's characters and story while defending 2's

>You're clearly the one that's never played either game.

What a fantastic argument.

Please, go ahead and tell me how FF7 is not a Cloud/Tifa ending, no matter how much you like Aeris. Go for it. This'll be fun!

Aeris dies at the end of the first disc. The rest of the entire fucking game is Cloud and Tifa. The whole goddamn scenario with Cloud getting better is Cloud and Tifa. The entire thing about Cloud returning to himself is Cloud and Tifa. The big scene before the final battle is Cloud and Tifa.

If you make some dumb choices during the game Tifa doesn't sleep with Cloud. But they're still, unquestionably together. Fucking every single piece of post-game media puts them together because it was the clearly canon pairing.

Claiming that the Golden Saucer Date gave some player agency in the romantic choice is a garbage opinion held by fucking retards because the game railroaded you into Cloud/Tifa regardless of who you picked for the date.

Pick Yuffie? Well enjoy having zero Cloud/Yuffie romance scenes. Picked Barret? Same deal.

"B-But I picked Aeri-"

AND SHE DIED. And you kept playing for another 20-30+ hours. And that entire time was Cloud and fucking Tifa.

Putting a Golden Saucer date into XBC2 just so you could go walk around with Nia would make you unbearable fuckheads even worse, because then you could possibly argue that there was a scene that implied something could have happened between them. It'd still be both wrong and stupid, but hey, I'd have to put up with it regardless.

And it sucks because I like Nia, a lot. But holy shit, the people complaining that Rex didn't choose her in a game where the entire plot revolves around his partnership with Pyra/Mythra is pants on head retarded.

QT has less personality and QT3.14 has less personality and is optional.
