I'm close to finishing VII on the 3ds which is also the first DQ I actually played that long. The job system really does it wonders.
How do other games hold it without a job system?

It was the best in term of graphic (second best now). But is kinda lacking on story and gameplay. It's my 3rd best mainline DQ.
Playing through the original VII. Still at the beginning though, at the volcano. Gonna play IV PS1 in Japanese after.
I find it weird that people still find DQVII too long even when the most popular 2017 JRPG lasts 120 hours.

Not really, but one thing you'll miss moving to the other games is how rich and well written the party chat is in VII. It makes the party and the world feel alive like no other JRPG.

120 hours in modern RPG counts cutscenes/movie in it. In OG DQVII most of that time is spent finding maps or grinding.

Why don't you just keep up from where you stopped instead of starting a whole new game? I had 11 paused for months and just recently I picked it up again and I just continued where I left off.

This game didn't interest me when it was in jp only and it doesn't interest me know that it's translated. How is the TL though?
Worse than Terry's translation. Still have some mistakes (mostly in the combined skills name) and bugs (due to text overflow) but it's playable to the end. Not worth to use if you understand japanese, but I'm an EOP so I'll take whatever I can get.
I know it's considered a meme liking that a game doesn't have voice acting, but I really don't see the problem with it not having voice acting.
