Logging on for the first time in over a decade and its just as fun as I remember it. What happened to video games? How could a game made more than 10 years ago be way more fun than anything EA shits out nowadays? What the fuck happened?
It's like, games are made with better graphics, better "balancing" and more content, but things just aren't fun anymore. The fun factor just isn't there. There is something satisfying, fun, and downright hilarious getting into a corridor fight chucking grenades around.

So you just realized right then, that e sports is cancer and is the opposite of fun.
If you ever, ever see e sports mentioned in relation to a game you are interested in. bail the fuck out immediately. As e sports just means "we have made efforts to take all the fun out of the game".
Ryan Barnes
>games are made with better graphics when i was younger i thought that was pretty cool, but now that its become too important and now overboard that it just takes up so much fucking memory, i so fucking wish games could just pick a art style that is low memory and make gameplay good, because realistic games just take up too much room and too much time leaving very little for anything else. i can almost imagine all the spergy teenagers , the same as me when i was , getting way too caught up about stupid shit like realistic graphics.
Aaron Cooper
Sup Forums has been hosting games lately. if you're having fun i advise you keep an eye out for them.

You are a manchild whose fat has folded over the arms of your nostalgia glasses, making them a permanent part of you.
Battlefront 2 is incredibly bland and a bad sequel that people only think is good because ZOMG MOAR MAPS THAT SCENE FROM THE MOVIE ZOMG I MEMBER THAT. It’s fun for an hour or two online but you won’t be playing it daily. t.RPG-loving soyboy

What a shit taste little cuck you are. Kill yourself.

Because it wasn't made with dlc, loot boxes, or any other safety nets in mind. It succeeds on it's own as a full game. Not even remotely close to the topic OP is bringing up. Everything about this post is factually wrong. Audio files are taking up a ridiculous amount of storage though.

Mad cuz bad :)

Bro, I dont play many video games, I work full time, I'm hardly a manchild, You seem pretty triggered though.
Its not fucking nostalgia. It's just as fun as it used to be. New games are the ones that are bland, sure they have better graphics and more content, but its like they are not made to have fun.
Hell the kicker is that I'm not a fan of the FPS genre, yet I still find Battlefront 2005 to be fun as hell.

Kek, I played both the new Battlefront and this one. Guess which one gets more playtime?
Not that piece of trash from EA.
And its not even the loot boxes and pay to win bullshit. It's the gameplay. It's like once we got past 2010, games have really gotten worse and worse. E-sports could be part of the problem.
Sure, we have well made "games", but they are not made with fun in mind. It's like everything has become formulaic and precise to the point that there is no room for anything fun or unpredictable.
Christopher Sanchez
To begin with because balancing is very hard, any attempts to do so normally result in fucking up the balance more than anything else, because games aren't rock paper scissors, nor chess or checkers. Player skill makes a lot of difference.
The real balance isn't exactly on the numbers but how to make less skilled players effective while also allowing a very high skill ceiling for everyone to strive towards.
Pretty much this, it killed RTS, then MOBAs and now it's killing FPS.
Alexander Torres
>It’s fun for an hour or two online but you won’t be playing it daily. I payed it daily for a few weeks after it came out, it was a very fun game.
Adrian Thomas
>it killed RTS, then MOBAs MOBAs killed RTS though. They were part of the problem from the start.
Anthony Lewis
>mobas killed rts Focus on competitive pvp, which turns any genre into a bland funless experience killed RTS, thank God the genre is being reborn with a focus on PvE.
>They were part of the problem from the start. No they were not, the problem with RTS is that there was nothing of "strategy" in it, people figured the optimal build/construction orders and then it became a game of who could press buttons faster and fuck up less. The only mode that ever allowed strategy were the campaigns and pve because the only way for "strategy" and "balance" to coexist is if the playing field is different for each side.
Aiden Ross
I think the main problem with EAfront 2 is that it's too obsessed with attack and defense models rather than the swinging pendulum of territory capture/control like in the original games. EAfront would be better if they went back to the game's roots.
Owen Rivera
MOBAs overtook RTS in popularity, and MOBAs are a downgrade in every sense (control over many units -> control over one pathetic unit that can't even defend itself, less maps and geography becoming less important in general, etc). You say RTS have no strategy in them, well then what the fuck are MOBAs other than a complete abomination?
>people figured the optimal build/construction orders and then it became a game of who could press buttons faster and fuck up less That's exactly what fucking MOBAs are, asshat. Why do you think devs keep adding new characters? To try and mix up the meta. But it's the same fucking shit, even worse here, since the games are dumbed down trash.
>The only mode that ever allowed strategy were the campaigns and pve because the only way for "strategy" and "balance" to coexist is if the playing field is different for each side. So much wrong with this sentence, I don't know where to start.
Jonathan Nguyen
Because vidya wasn't that big an industry back then. Now vidya is mainstream and since most people are retards games are made for retards

Gameplay isn't better. It's too restricted, too much mobile bullshit like symbols on the map and shit

I wouldnt say MOBAS, its e-sports and the fact that these games require a high player skill floor. Meaning like what was said previously, these older games (like BF2) were made for a casual audience, "balancing" wasnt a factor back then. If anyone gamed back in the late 90's and early 2000' you know that the obsession over balancing that we have now wasnt a huge factor back then. It was more about having fun, ridiculous gameplay was part of the experience.
Esports IS killing gaming. Can a new player log on to SMITE and have fun? Nope. SMITE requires focus, skill and concentration or else you'll just die.
Compare that to BFII where even a new player can use the grenade launcher or get into a AT-ST and go on a killing spree, and get into crazy fun situations very early on in their career. These situations just arent there with newer games, so many have high skill floors and have become precise and formulaic.
Samuel Watson
>waaaaah, games actually require skill to win against other players, bullshit you guys are the cancer that killed good games rts died because the PvP is too hardcore, duel PvP in fast paced games is casual repellant same reason arena shooters died mobas have much more emphasis on large/small scale decision making and teamplay rather than mechanical complexity, and are way easier to control and understand for average joe. also you can blame teammates, kill mindless creeps and buy shit. they are still interesting games, and I'd argue that team strategy/synergy is so important it's prolly more complex than rts, but on different skillsets, being way less demanding mechanically but more on coordination
most ppl are just too casual for rts, is moba didn't killed them another genre would've
Tyler Gutierrez
>MOBAs overtook RTS in popularity You're stating a fact, not the reason behind it. >You say RTS have no strategy in them, well then what the fuck are MOBAs other than a complete abomination? Over the items, builds, and ability path one would take, as much shit as the game gets, there's no one way of building a hero on dota. But that does happen again and again with RTS as the number of choices is minuscule.
>That's exactly what fucking MOBAs are, asshat >"hurr durr one game represents the entire genre"
> I don't know where to start Don't try, you've proved you know nothing of the subject.
Bentley Gray
thinking battlefront flaws come from esport is so fucking retarded it hurts, its an AAA arcade casual shooter games are shit now because they have no soul and appeal to lowest common denominator, they're made to sell, not to make great games that felt good or innovative to play, marketing have more budget that the game making at this point, wtf do you expect the fact that games are the most profitable entertainment industry even when the game is shit is the reason AAA casual shit is shit
Evan Young
the industry went from qualified white males making quality products to sjw tumblerettes and soyboys. in general it's no longer a niche hobby for "nerds" that was left to itself but another cog in mainstream culture pandering to the common denominator
Matthew Diaz
>waah waah you killed my games So much wrong in this post
Eli Edwards
pretty much this. It wasnt just quality products though, it was more about creativity and having fun. Theres very little innovation in the industry now, very little risk taking. There are certain formulas for games that are strictly followed.
Star wars is pretty much a victim of this. The new movies are the best example of the genre being primarily for straight white healthy males to the SJW soulless, formulaic Disney with no innovation or risk taking what so ever.
I keep saying this, 1996 - 2006 was the best decade in gaming. After 2006 shit started to go downhill fast. Very few gems come out.
Chase King
look what they did to Galaxies. Killed the game and replaced it with trash (Swtor)

I've heard the clones say that a few times recently, sounds like they did like three or four takes of it.
