some sort of headtracking sbablization software that smoothes the movement of my head
Library comparable to the Rift, the gap is huge at the moment
Games
a lower price
I just want people to start selling their old vives for cheap so I can finally have VR
You know that those used vives things will be full of sperm and sweat right
What?
Rift has like 300 games while Vive has 700, and it can play every rift game just fine
bigger resolution
I literally just bought a vive last week, hopefully i don't regret it too much when we see the new one next week.
perfect
that is a stupid idea.
That gives it character lol
...
Did you just buy it for VR chat?
a big dumb LED display on the front for cyberpunk reasons
I've always wondered, isn't it a common occurrence for VR players to get tangled in the cable while playing? Whenever I watch a video of someone playing VR, I'm always conscious of where the cable is and whether he'll trip or coil it around himself.
Is this a possibility? I'd be down for buying a less powerful but more affordable model.
Literally gloves for a controller
i literally will never use VR until it's as simple as putting on a super chunky pair of glasses
I honestly forget about the cable when im using my rift.
I only know that there is a cable when im using it nude
sfs
lol no, to be fair though VR chat is a pretty surreal experience in Vr. I don't know why anyone would play it on desktop mode though.
this
as apple user the whole setup process freaks me out
The setup process is literally 10 minutes with the rift.
Its a facebook machine even a monkey can do it.
Doesn't matter what they do with the HMD, the hardware to run VR games is still to expensive for most people, and until the average consumer can afford the whole setup there isn't going to be any worthwhile games made for it.
Controllers with an analog stick and more buttons would be my top priority. I would like it to be easier for developers to port standard games into VR since making it cheaper to make a VR mode means more VR games. Even if the game does not take full advantage of VR is still better than no game. After that, I want the obvious upgrades like eye tracking to be able to boost the resolution.
It is something I think about a lot. You get better at dealing with the cord, but there is always a concern. I generally don't do any big fast motions, so it isn't that much of a problem. There have also been times when I have reached down to pick up something in VR to find my cat expecting get petted. Another good reason not to take big steps when I can't see what is around me.
Larger resolution/FOV and wireless. That's about it, really.
I don't own VR but I have wanted to buy one since checking out VRChat, I am going to wait for the Vive 2, my main hope is that it will be wireless.
I don't know why I replied to you with
They have spoken about this at some kind of conference.
Gloves have multiple problems over controllers.
First of all, they're like clothing, they require to be your size, while controllers are one-size fits all.
You can make them loosenable/tightenable with hoops or elastics or something, but this is a 700$ item that you have to keep on for HOURS, it can't feel like the cheap, uncomfortable rental ice skates, it should feel high quality.
Also it's meant for your hands, your fingertips are literally the most sensitive and most precise part of your body. Any tiny discomfort will be immediately apparent, which again is another nail in the coffin of adjustable size.
They should, literally, "fit like a glove".
You want them built in many different sizes? Such expensive tech should not only be mass-produced, but mass produced IN MULTIPLE MEASURES? The cost multiplies.
Another issue, you want people to try VR at their friends' house, and in stores, it's the only way to market the experience (pictures and ads on television cannot convey the experience). Well with controllers you just hand them over, smile, and say to the potential costumer "have a go!".
With gloves you ask "what's your size?" And whether you have to tighten/loosen the gloves or PLUG IN A NEW PAIR ALTOGETHER, you're going to be there 3 minutes adjusting things and asking whether the customer is ok.
You think it's disgusting to share a controller with other people, maybe strangers in a store? Try a sweaty pair of gloves.
Plus there's the problem of warmth.
In August headphones are already unbearable, imagine gloves, something you only wear in the dead of winter.
Also gamers are unfamiliar with them, it's a gamble. Also the tech is harder to implement/they break easier.
In short, there are MANY GOOD reasons why you won't see vr gloves in the near future, especially for a big commercial release.
>buying a rift/vive for VRchat
Thats like buying a ferrari to just touch a wheel.
It's more like buying a Ferrari but instead of actually driving it you're just fucking with traps inside it.
You really dont know what you are talking about.
Should I?
Now is a good time to sell it bro. The value will go down as soon as the new one is annouced.
I doubt it will be done but I would love for hand tracking to be a thing making controllers obsolete. Maybe the vive 3 or 4 will have it.
the vive controller is pretty bad even for a first generation attempt. I don't know how that was the best design they came up with. I'd like to see something better. I've not used the Oculus controller but it looks like it might be a better design.
Look up the knuckle controllers they're working on.
Also in games where to have to hold an object like a gun or sword, to keep your hand in that position for long periods of time would get very uncomfortable.
Obviously I would not only play VRChat.
>It's more like buying a Ferrari but instead of actually driving it you're just fucking with traps inside it.
Surprisingly accurate.
It's pretty easy to pick up traps when you have a sick ride though.
You are obviously underage pewdiepie fan or something
VRChat is just a shitty game with 80 guys mostly furries screaming. I just dont get why the fuck would you buy a headset to try that game
>elastic gloves are IMPOSSIBLE
>having disposable undergloves for demo booths is IMPOSSIBLE
> headphones in august are UNBEARABLE, aka "i'm too poor to afford AC, but not poor enough to miss the latest dead-in-the-water tech gadget
>people are UNFAMILIAR with the power glove when a properly working power glove is THE tech dream of the 80ies and all the tech-savvy working adults today
What a load of stupid bullshit only good unthinking consumers. Critical thinking is really a chimera for millennials, isn't it.
>You are obviously underage pewdiepie fan or something
Wtf are you talking about? Liking a game defines everything else you like? Part of growing up is realizing people have different taste in different things, you will learn that.
You are retarded.
eye tracking
Quality isn't close, Vive is just tech demo garbage
I mean, I'd play vrchat in vr if I could, but I'm poor af.
I wanna see some BIG ASS TITTIES bouncing right in front of my FACE
how many wires are involved in the Vive?
i have a Rift and i've had a great time with it but the wire mess took me hours to figure out a way to get it in a manageable manner
so i guess what I want from next-gen VR would be less wires
I wish they'd make some Pokemon SFM VR porn already
If it's at least 144ghz I'll buy it. Anything lower while moving my head around is going to give me a headache. They have 250ghz now so that would be nice too, I'll buy it on release if it's that smooth.
the knuckles controller already has 5 finger tracking, the only reason to have gloves would be haptic feedback, but that shit is expensive and bulky as hell currently.
I'd take a PSVR tier headset for the same price tbqh.
>ghz
Nigga...
>144,000,000,000 hertz
damn nigga you gonna wait til next millennium
Nice counter-argument, underage loser! Keep sucking marketing cock and being an early adopter of subpar tech.
Does Vive not had replacable head-foam crap like Rift does?
imagine having to go through life being not only this poor, but stupid as well
Knuckles doesn't track fingers, it just tracks if a given finger is holding it, same shit as Oculus Touch.
as an actual car guy who's been to track days, that's not far off, rich cucks just show up half way through the day, park it and stand by it
Nice presumption, I don't own any VR. You are still retarded.
Some games use the finger tracking or what ever and analogue grip which vive wands don't have.
Every Vive game works on Oculus.
It does
Improved optics, field of view and a bump in resolution. Nothing revolutionary but a solid step forward.
A demo of whatever steam is supposed to be cooking would give something to look forward After FO4VR and LA Noire there's just Skyrim in the pipes that I know about.
under $200
It will eventually happen but like some other user in here said, the easiest current solutions would be a pair of thin gloves that properly track your movement.
Isn't that already a thing?
I haven't tried actual VR headsets yet but you can select most things on your phone with a Google cardboard setup.
FOUR-POLE GALVANIC VESTIBULAR STIMULATION
What if it's not a new HMD at all?
I'm 98% sure the resolution part of the post was a pun related to the display.
this one is pretty much a given now
>Facebook/Oculus bought Eye Tribe at the end of 2016
>Google bought Eyefluence
>Apple snapped up SMI this summer, despite SMI being part of Vive/Qualcomm’s VR accelerator program
>Intel invested in AdHawk eye tracking
theres eye tracking technology but I dont think too many things utilize it.
The only game i know that uses it is agents of mayhem
youtube.com
yeah, i know its not a VR and thats done through the use of a webcam but apparently that same company has dev kits for VR as well.
You literally just plug shit in and it works. Stop being a baby.
Knuckle controllers please
The Oculus Touch controllers are way better than the current Vive controllers
Knuckle controllers are Valve's not HTC.
why would you want that, it's only going tp make you throw up
Gorn? Superhot VR? Serious Sam: The Last Encounter?
The same but far cheaper. Maybe a few models.
I don't want wireless so put that in the soyboy package. I don't even trust wireless mice so the screen on top of my head trying it's best to make me sick is not an option.
>HTC
not interested
Foot support.
Pay three hundred bucks for trackers.
Or like 20 for a Kinect.
Does a 360 Kinect work?
- Higher resolution
- Higher PPI screen
- Higher FOV
- Controllers that are basically gloves with individual finger tracking.
- Wireless
Yeah
Give the controller back Tirone.
That's a relief, one less thing to worry about.
Now I just need... everything else...
>inb4 next gen headsets devs drop the ball focusing mostly on wireless and we dont get increased resolutions/framerates until 3rd or 4th gen
>inb4 VR goes the way of google glass and we never have a totally dedicated gaymen headset, only facebook-tier mobile games on dinky metal frames
Ill buy VR when it has a gadget that adds tactile function to your dick.
um... user...
I'm working as a vr dev for a software company and we are using leap motion to track hand movements.
However the tracking is a piece of shit and doesn't work half the time.
Even though it isn't there yet, in a few years the technology should be good enough to complement controllers for certain types of games.
Cheap VR controllers that work on all headsets. Nolo is like £200. PSEye camera tracking is very limited.
Time to buy some shares in Novint Technologies.
Is there any source about the new one or just speculation?
I am looking to buy an older version.
How is it to use with janky glasses?
Glasses are shit in general to use. I have a low-profile small lens frames and even though I can 'use' them in my Vive, they always get caught by the headset when I lift it off. I just ended up not using them at all.
Do you even need glasses if the screen is next to your eyes? Speaking for people that are -
of course its just all speculation but its pretty much a no brainer that a new one is eventually gonna come out.
