Will there ever be a game to come close to the sheer perfection (and I do not use that word loosely) that is Terraria? >Better designed 'open world' than actual open world games. Other open world games apparently do not know how to balance them. Every area they create is around the same difficulty level in case some casual wanders off to somewhere and gets killed and then cries about it being unfair. Terraria does not do this. From the moment you spawn into the world, you can go almost anywhere. Will you probably die going to those places unprepared? Sure, but the option is there and each area has its own difficulty level. >Each area has unique items, enemies and hazards Self explanatory but important non the less. I'm getting real sick of games having dog shit enemy rosters filled with copy pasted recoloured enemies. Terraria has a plethora of enemies in each and every area. I dear say Terraria's enemy variety is one of the best of all time. >Enhanced difficulty mode done correctly. For one, we have expert mode, a mode which goes the usual lazy route of "enemies do more damage and have more HP!", but unlike other games this game actively gives enemies new attacks and enhanced AI. >Hard mode Imagine if all games did this. Imagine if you thought you beat a game, imagine if you thought you had scoured the land and done everything, enemies were too weak now, you're fighting the 'final boss' and then after you killed him every enemy in the game got replaced by NEW more difficult enemies, new items to find, new bosses, new biomes. This mode alone is pure genius.
This is a modern day masterpiece. This is art in video game form. If you could only play 5 games for the rest of your life and Terraria wasn't on it, then you should just kill yourself honestly.
I really hope they dont fuck up the sequel I love this game also, fuck Starbound.
Cameron Smith
theyre making a second one ?
Isaac Robinson
sequel is already dead and it's shit looking at the mechanics.
Matthew Martinez
whats up champs and champettes
Hunter Gonzalez
I agree but with the caveat that what you said only applies if you're playing the PC version. The other versions of the game are so watered down it hurts.
Isaac James
literally my ONLY thing that irks me is needing certain stuff to progress with that you need to farm for take the SAND ELEMENTAL for example can only spawn in a sandstorm drops 1 item you need 3 of for armor set sandstorm has only 1/6 chance to spawn every day im doing an expert mode mage/summoner and need only the forbidden armor for mech bosses. this is what got me. haven't played in 2 weeks
Hudson Bell
i'm sad because starbound has way better pixel art graphics than Terraria and i loved the race idea with the race perk that they removed post beta. So many cut content post beta it's simply insane. Their decisions to make a story and not a simple sandbox game like Terraria was what killed it. Would have been better to not have a main quest at all, but to make an universe where you're free to do anything with quest there and there and randomly generated quest. geez man.
Terraria has a very unconsistent artstyle, the earliest item crude pixel art clash with the new, much more elaborate and beautiful item. that applys to mobs, world, boss, and building too.

this is just Minecraft in 2D lmao
Jackson Bailey
I admire your shitposting user. I too, hate BoTW and will do all I can to turn the public opinion against it

>tfw they killed the game and i was sad with 1.1 >mfw they went back on their word and brought 1.2.

WHERE THE FUCK IS THE SERVER
Logan Evans
literally misclicked lmao i wish i wasn't autistic
Chase Davis
>you will never live through 1.2 release day again
Dylan James
>Their decisions to make a story and not a simple sandbox game like Terraria was what killed it. This. No, I know there's other problems that are huge too but you niggers don't understand how badly Starbounds shitty forced in story kills the game dead. What were they thinking? Even to this day, the idea of a simple Terraria in space is still appealing but Starbound simply isn't that title. Biomes are empty. Enemy designs are trash, bosses are bland (I've heard some people disagreeing with this, compare any Starbound Boss to the Wall of fucking Flesh. Non compare), the music puts me to fucking sleep i can't believe people say "hehehe starbound is shit but it has good music!!!" no it doesn't, the old experimental tracks they were gonna use are good, the music the game actually has is so dull i feel like I'm falling asleep. Such a dog shit game that had the recipe to success right in front of it but the devs wanted to be cute. Also that's another thing, why are the enemy designs so trash? Despite Terraria's art style, the enemies are (for the most part), not going for a 'silly' look. Face monsters, spiders, medusa's, wall of flesh, the turtle enemies, the wasps, they're all series looking enemies. If they were in starbound they'd slap a goofy face on them to make them appear cutesy, like the shit monster.
Julian Myers
>See Starbound got updates. >Consider replaying it. >Remember having to trawl through the fucking mining facility for the umpteenth fucking time. >Remember having to waste minutes teleporting to and from the fucking outpost every other quest, having to run around scanning shit and talking to people for no reason. >Remember having to grind shitty side quests to get suits. You know, the story idea really wouldn't have been all that bad, if they hadn't gone out of their way to figure out what would be convenient and fun for the player, and then done the exact opposite of that.
Chase Thomas
I dunno man. I replayed it not too long ago and you can just rush through most parts.
Isaiah Robinson
I'll never understand the circlejerk over Terraria, I've played it at various states over the years since launch (with friends, I wouldn't have even bothered solo) and it's still just as fucking boring as it was at launch, only with thousands more hours of boring, brainless combat oriented content with no real attempts made at making the building/survival aspects fun. I guess if you enjoy really bland skinner boxes, Terraria is the game for you?
Sebastian Carter
comfiest game ever
Anthony Walker
There are mods to skip that annoying crap, I have 120 mods installed but even then the realisation kicks in: the gameplay loop is awful. You visit a planet, scavenge the villages for resources, craft next backpack, visit next planet. For what fucking purpose should anyone bother if combat, story and exploration sucks. The only thing it's kinda good at is building.
Liam Ross
it's because you got shit taste, here's why.
Christopher Taylor
This tbqhwy. >Survival elements The fuck does this even mean? You want to have to eat food every so often? That is always a shit mechanic. If you mean survival in terms of hazards then Terraria is filled with them. Probably has more than any other game.
Anthony Williams
>Discovering all the new shit >Entering the snow biome for the first time >Entering the HM dungeon for the first time >Fighting Plantera the first time >Finding the temple for the first time going in blind was truly a magical experience 1.3 was more polished and arguably better but it just wasn't the same somehow Plus 1.2 fixed so much of the game that going back to 1.1 is fucking impossible now
Jose Mitchell
Be honest, will we ever get another update akin to 1.2 and 1.3 or are those days gone now until the new game comes out?
Brandon Robinson
...
Eli Price
i remembers playing this game and getting so much item at the surface without even mining at all and asking myself "What's the point of mining?" "Why would i create a base in a planets if i can do it in my ship and i can even makes my ship bigger and have a crews in there?" I never felt comfy in this game, as much as it look comfy as fuck, i was always moving and shit because there was no reason at all to stay and mine and just.. survive. live my life. I love terraria because it's 1 world with everything in it, so i don't have to worry about creating my base in X but then finding out "there's no iron here i need to go to another planets". Every enemy in terraria are pre-made with their own attack and shit. Every enemy in Starbound are randomly generated, 100 monsters are pre-made by the devs otherwise.
Bentley Nelson
1.3.6 has been in development for a fucking while and Red's helping with it I hope it'll be akin to a 1.2.X update, those were fucking huge and great I have a crackpot theory that 1.3.6 and the features that were intended for that update have been rolled into 1.4, the update which is in development right now
Justin Butler
For me only terraria 3d could top terraria.
Jeremiah Cooper
> infinite world please no, this shit is terrible and make worlds more repetitive than they should be.
otherwise i'll be okay with it if it has the starbound artstyle i just want terraria: but it has the amazing artstyle of starbound with great pixel art.
Angel Rodriguez
The overwhelming amount of extra content added onto it over the years makes it really unfair to say that Terraria is a perfect game. It's more like one game with a half dozen free expansion packs. If terraria was made all at once I seriously doubt it would be paced the way it was or as cheap as it is. It's something that can only come out of free updates onto a solid base game.
Austin Thompson
>love terraria and starbound >nobody to play it with
Wyatt Gray
>terraria >3d
Luke Howard
Fuck you, Starbound was done right.
Joshua Ortiz
Starbound was such a phenominal fuck up that the /vg/ general existed for over a year for the sole purpose of shitting on it and telling people not to buy the game. It was a mistake in the truest sense of the word and I hope chucklefish burns for it.
Joshua Taylor
I spent 2 months farming for mine, was not worth it when i got it, because i had gotten so bored that i switched to Ranged and Melee with the Frost Gear.
Daniel Green
is there even a developer more based than redigit?
I'd play with people but I only like playing hardcore characters and nobody else enjoys that shit. My dream is to get like 4+ 'somewhat' good Terraria players (each of us picking the classes we plan on going), make a new large world, make brand new characters and just play through the game. People don't know what they're missing, hardcore characters are a thing of beauty. The game is much more tense, deaths aren't meaningless, bosses are more scary. It's fucking glorious. Never gonna happen though, I've tried numerous times, the main Terraria players who still play a lot are the kind that just enjoy the building aspect.
Luis Ramirez
>the main Terraria players who still play a lot are the kind that just enjoy the building aspect. If the combat wasn't fucking atrocious I'd give a shit, who the hell plays a floaty, janky, slippery piece of shit like Terraria for the combat or PvP?
Adam Hughes
My guy, if you set up a server, I will be your Yo-yo man
Nathaniel Phillips
Alternatively, I'll be a gunner
Angel Morgan
>who the hell plays a floaty, janky, slippery piece of shit like Terraria for the combat or PvP? Me. The combat is pure kino.
I'll set up a server if we can grab a few more people for sure.
Anybody else interested?
Andrew Reed
ill join
Landon Phillips
I'll join, although I'm shit at the game. You doing expert or regular?
Robert Gray
Oh shit are we gonna make it? Anybody else want in for some hardcore fun?
Wyatt Flores
Expert for sure, I just can't play normal mode ever since playing expert.
Do you all have the official version so I can just post my steam name so you can add me?
Angel Reyes
Nah, I have the filthy piratefag version, but I've usually been able to join up if I have the host IP
Ethan Edwards
Otherworld is not the sequel
Sebastian Torres
Alright give me a minute then, gonna have to do port forwarding shit.
Liam Lopez

Dominic Green
It's an autism simulator, treat it as such.
Nathan Thompson
but mining with something other than the sanic claw just feels wrong my man
Parker Phillips
Alright then lads, try this out and see if it works for the hardcore character server.

Zachary Collins
what do you guys think about thorium
I'm playing terraria for the first time in ages and I downloaded a bunch of mods that were listed in the /tg/ pastebin
Jayden Miller
Yes, still plenty of room. If you do join, just hold off on doing anything for a bit, waiting to get everybody in then I'll make a new world so we don't have to sit around at night time.
v1.3.5.3
Henry Ward
if only they went for the original path of proceduirally generated planets and monsters instead of getting the same shit every fucking time you visit a fucking planet
Parker Ward
>Director mode will exist within a separate Starbound client that allows admins to connect to their servers with a range of new tools built to control the action for their players. Admins in director mode (there can be multiple), will be able to spawn blocks, items, monsters, npcs at will. Take direct control over them, have them speak and interact with players. Essentially director mode allows admins to take on a similar role to that of a dungeon master in D&D, creating scenarios and stories on the fly to ensure players never have the same experience twice. The client will have an easy to use interface; you can see a preview here
Also, I suppose I'll bite the bullet and go melee. If we do make it to the WoF without dying, I ain't going near that fucker. He's a real bitch to fight as a melee character so I'll leave that to all you ranged guys.
Grayson Kelly
Even the dying artist of starbound said it was shit and the developer is a hack.
Colton Nguyen
Fuck, im having a strong deja vu.
Hunter Harris
Thorium is terraria+. The QoL is great, but stacking it with other mods gets out of hand fast.
Cooper Murphy
Server is up for real now, we had 6 people before, let's do this shit. 82.12.211.66 7777

Try now
Jackson Cruz
please help i'm a brainlet, i can't seem to find how to update to 1.3.5.3 from 1.3.5.2.
Brayden Walker
Never
David Nelson
Nah. The very world was fucking boring. There is a shittonne of pretty much the same planets with nothing but a single ruin/base and a couple of ore veins. And that's it. You do not explore, you mercilessly gring the shit out of a planet and go to the next one. The dragon boss oneshot idea was interesting though.
Jayden Myers
what kind of server is this? fresh start?
Jace Hill
What do you think of Witchmarsh? Some kind of deep RPG in the veins of FNV - and inspired by PnP with over 12 characters to play with lots of choice and consequence with skills and perk and large weapon variety.
John Gomez
If theres one thing I hate about terraria, it's drop rates. They're abysmal and they make an otherwise great game a fucking slog to get through.
There are so many cool weapons in the game that I've never even heard of, like the Uzi or the Crystal Serpent or the Life Drain. SO WHY THE FUCK ARE THEY ALL PERCENT DROPS? What the fuck is the point of a crafting system if the only weapons you can craft are fucking swords and lances?
I go through all this effort of meticulously collecting and categorizing EVERYTHING, and post hard-mode it literally doesn't matter because every item has a miniscule drop rate and requires you to FUCKING FISH (I love fishing but you can't force it on our players).
Just fix the drop rates and make every non-craftable item craftable, and we're straight.
Brandon Jones
Go to bed Cennxx
Henry Peterson
nevermind it was fuggin tmodloader
Joshua Thomas
Pretty sure there's a mod that makes almost everything craftable
Carson Diaz
terraria is largely focused on biome environments, and charting out the underground world around you in order to maximize resources. several locations are paramount, and you build around them to make your experience simpler
starbound is a game where you do not need to change your environment, instead you lavish your creativity on interior design for your ship. there's a comfy questline you can follow that gradually takes you through the progression, and keeps you distracted from how empty the game actually is. you'll fall in love with your character FAR more than you ever have with characters before, the game just has that effect on you. but unfortunately the most progression your character gets is within the first couple of quests, after that all you're doing is making the numbers bigger.'
one thing starbound has terraria beat on, is melee combat. the weapons are creative and being able to choose style over stats is exactly what so many videogames fail to let you do, it's refreshing. unfortunately, that's not anything interesting worth fighting, and the "bosses" are a snore. If I had to describe starbound in one sentence, it's someone's terraria fanfic made into a half-decent game.
Joshua Hill
How many deaths was that during night 1?
Adam Allen
There are two beefs I have with Terraria. The first is that the learning curve for total beginners is a bit steep, especially for those brave enough to go expert mode at the start. Not a game ruining problem but still. The second is that your commie block base stops being a safe space after hard mode starts. You can plan for wraiths but you can't plan for fucking mothula. I don't like this, it makes me want to make two worlds, one for easy and one for hard.
Also containing corruption/hallow is kind of a pain in the ass.
Bentley Cooper
>saying anything positive about Starbound's writing >liking Starbound's writing >calling Starbound's writing comfy You crossed a line and just couldn't stop there, could you? You done went and crossed three lines. What the fuck is wrong with you, go away.
Jace Garcia
tried it when it first came to xbox 360 arcade
didn't like it

>mfw still havent gotten a clinger staff after ~30 corrupt mimic kills Is this fucking thing an expert mode only drop or something.
