Which one is the superior series and why?
If you had to choose one to preserve while the other gets lost in time, which one would you choose?

Does it matter? They're both great franchises with each having their different pros and cons

I love them both but I play the souls series regularly.

It's basically writing and story versus gameplay.

I'm going to give it to the Witcher just because the quality has consistently improved after the first game but the same can't be said for Souls.

Why do feel the need to compare them?

Witcher 3 is the only one in the series worth playing. Watch an LP or something on the first 2 games, it will be quicker and less annoying.

Dark Souls though has been quality after quality.

Add to that how The Witcher series is pretty much the complete package. Meanwhile souls has decent (not even good) gameplay... and that's it.

I liked Demon's Souls and Witcher 1, Dark Souls trilogy was okayish, Witcher sequels were fucking awful, never played BB. So Souls wins for me even though I actually only liked one entry. I still intend to eventually get round to trying BB.

tbqh Witcher 1 is fucking boring as fuck whereas DaS1 is the bomb.
W2 is bomb ass shit whereas DaS2 is nigger tier. SOTFS is obongo nigger tier nigger tier.
W3 is almost a fucking movie at times whereas DaS3 is BB with cheap reskins and the movement of DaS1 ported over.

Ehh, I feel like both felt great at the time but now that it's been a few years they feel just "okay." The older DS games didn't age so well and The Witcher series seems to have gotten worse in terms of its original strengths over the series. I wouldn't be surprised if in 10 years after the series are just over people have forgotten about them almost completely.

Simply because it's more representative of the medium's selling points. The story and characters are conveyed in a pretty cinematic manner in the Witcher series, and the actual gameplay feels very weightless and uninvolving

They're right though. You have the same sword moves throughout the entire game. The only thing that changes are your stats, the mechanics are the same.

tbqh I think W2 is the strong point of the series. It played to the game's strengths (story choices with dramatic consequences in game) while shoring up its weaknesses (no more rhythm-clicking combat). It was short enough that you could replay it with different builds and choices without ever feeling like you were slogging through it.

Why? Because you enjoyed it more? What makes your opinion more valid than that of others?
I thought it was clunky and only fun during boss fights. The exploration aspect was ruined in the sequels too.

The fact I can pop the disc for DS3 in right now and be playing within two minutes as opposed to popping in Witcher three and have to sit through twenty minutes of shit to play means DS3 wins for me.

the act of doing quests in witcher is almost always shit, usually being just basic "walk here kill monster" "walk here and use batman sense" or "walk here and pick up item" the good part of the quests is just writing again

the problem with the witcher is that the things you do simply aren't fun to do

And much of souls gameplay is about poking enemies when they are recovering from attacks. Experienced players don't even bother fighting grunts and just run straight past, because it feels like a chore.
