How the FUCK am I supposed to use stealth and backstab foes in Pillars of Eternity when every enemy encounter has 10 enemies looking in all directions? I can never get close enough before they see my guy. Also, am I wrong if I assume my rogue will be murdered as soon as he initiates combat because he'll be targeted by all enemies?
PoE / cRPag thread, I guess

How did Obsidian manage to have both shit character models and shit combat when compared to games literally made by several people on a shoestring budget?
Seriously, how did they manage to make it look so bad?
Josiah Gomez
I kinda like the PoE look. What ugly game is that pic of yours from?

use basic tanking strategies for the drake. Make sure your tank is facing the drake away from the rest of your team so his fire breath conal AoE doesn't wreck your teams shit. Use your other fighter/paladin ...you DO have at least 2 tanks...right? to clog up the other enemies, prioritizing the priests with your damage dealers. Place your priest near the middle of the group so he can cover all your guys.
It's a tough fight, don't be worried if you're having trouble with it. Worst case, just leave and come back in a couple more levels.
Jaxon Richardson
You don't. Rogue is probably the most underpowered class in the game, but I still used a ranged rogue on PotD.

Isaac Evans
I always figured I would need a rogue for dungeon searching, but the priest does a rogues job just fine, and can detect/open traps better than them.
Brody Cooper
Holy fuck the fight was hard, but I did win (though I was lucky).
I have two fighters, one chanter, one priest and one wizard. I started the battle with a scroll of protection to minimize the effects of debuffs, then I used one of my fighters, who uses a two handed to 'tank a few champions and skirmishers, while my shield fighter went for the drake and a few other champions. I was barely managing that, my priest was supporting in any way he could while I tried to kill the enemy priest and the enemy high priest, when the drake used the fire breath and damaged pretty much all of the xaurips. I used that moment to cast a chanter shout to stun enemies, an arcane dampening effect to remove positive buffs, then I had my main fighter use the watcher aoe fright ability while everyone quickly focused on the high priest. Once both enemy priests were down, the fight became manageable.
Damn, those xaurip high priests are really fucking strong.

>tfw I can't remember the non-meme name of the game
Joshua Garcia
grats! Yea those priests are no joke. Good on you for beating it with 5 party members also. Have you gotten to the city yet, or did you go into the endless paths right after you cleared the mansion?
If I were you, I'd walk to the city real quick. You pick up another party member right there, and having another body really helps you deal with the rest of the shit the Endless paths throws at you.
John Garcia
>How the FUCK am I supposed to use stealth and backstab foes in Pillars of Eternity when every enemy encounter has 10 enemies looking in all directions? By not using them in the early game, shitter. Early game rogues are all about being cheeky skirmishers that attack in conjunction with a tank, only late game rogues can use backstab effectively by utilizing high stealth scores and the rogue's invisibility talent and even then you're supposed to use backstab tactically like delaying your rogue's attack until enemy melee fighters engage and then striking their mages or priests from stealth or invisibility.
>I can never get close enough before they see my guy. As I've said, you have low stealth scores and no invisibility talent.
>am I wrong if I assume my rogue will be murdered as soon as he initiates combat because he'll be targeted by all enemies? No, you're not wrong, if you're playing without utilizing every single item and buff the game gives you. Fact is, even though the game is soloable with a rogue on PoTD, it's a massive fucking chore and as a rule of thumb rogues are not meant meant to be hit at all. If you initiate combat with a rogue, the most you should do is backstab and envenom a single squishy target, then retreat behind your tank's back instantly with the Escape class talent and THEN reposition for dealing sneak attack damage to a new target engaged with your tank.
>shit combat The combat is the absolute best compared to any of the RTwP party based RPGs out there. PoE completely BTFOs trash like Shitter's Gate 2 and better games like IWD2 out of the water when it comes to combat mechanics and tactical depth.
Levi Thompson
poe's combat is absolute crap even when compared to absolute crap and that's an objective fact. on top of that there are no builds and no variety.
James Cruz
I'm relatively new to this genre of isometric combat wasn't fortunate enough to grow up on the classics... Which game would you recommend that has the best combat system of this genre?
Noah Campbell
I opened the mansion, then I went for raedric's hold and after killing the ruler I decided to check a few floors of this endless paths dungeon, haven't been to Defiance Bay yet. I ended up using a grappling hook to go down the sacrificial pit in floor 2 and encountered the drake, I was scared shitless of the walk back after killing it, but fortunately there's a shortcut in floor 5. I think I'll go to Defiance Bay before exploring more of this dungeon, like you said I should.
Luke Bennett
Dungeon Rats (age of decadence spinoff) and Underrail for non party based combat.
Other than that, Temple of Elemental Evil with Circle of Nine mod (or whatever it's called). Arcanum for broken fun. Fallout 1 and 2 have bearable combat (Age of Decadence and Underrail vastly improve that model).
Juan Cook
I played only a few of the old classics, but I'm really enjoying PoE's combat. Also, it's surprisingly solid to control with a PS4 controller on consoles. Haven't found a better one so far, among those that are RTwP. I much prefer turn-based ones, though.
Joseph Hughes
cool, I'll check those out. Thanks.
How's the new wasteland btw? Have you got a chance to play it?
Luke Morgan
that game go so much easier when you realize you can exploit the ai the same way as dead state
Carter Wood
>I have two fighters, one chanter >no paladin to buff the fighters with zealous aura Nigger.
>there are no builds and no variety. This is how I know your opinion is worthless dogshit, because you haven't played a single game in the genre.
Asher Wright
are paladins good?
Jordan Hughes
I disliked the shit art direction so I did not play it much, but it's completely broken in how ranged classes are designed. If you take a sniper, every enemy can sprint right next to it on turn one making it completely useless.
Robert Phillips
The combat in Wasteland 2 is TERRIBLE, but I like the atmosphere. Some NPCs are trash though.
Christopher Morales
wow, it actually looks worse than diablo 3. oh and in poe you can randomize every point and get the same result because sawyer has no idea how to design a rpg system.
Matthew Bennett
They're good if you know how to build them. The fool proof method is just use them as burst DPS machines by utilizing zealous aura and shitloads of fire damage bonuses to synergize with your flames of devotion.
@402452994 Until you post proof that you've finished the game on potD, your opinion is worthless dogshit not even worthy of a you. You don't get to talk about a game's difficulty and combat mechanics in subjective terms without actually proving you know what you're talking about first and you have yet to present even a single objective statement.
Justin James
I just got D:OS2 recently and I'm kinda loving it. It's been forever since I've played a game with this much effort put into it. But I do have to say, holy FUCK some of these follower types are un-fucking-bearable. The lizard, the skeltal and the edgy elf are so goddamn grating. Please someone tell me they become less annoying if you hang out with them more? Also should I play solo in ez mode or maximum difficulty? Because I definitely do wanna do solo runs for each of the origin characters.
Thomas Hughes
the lizard kinda becomes a bro if you hang out with him and do his quest the skeleton is how he is take it or leave it as for the edgy elf shes just garbage
Robert Brooks
>dumbvinity 2
yikes, why would you play a babby game?
Jose Peterson
Because I'm enjoying it. So far my only complaint is the previously stated follower one.
