you first, op

same game. hate this fucker(s)

I would have to say the most borderline impossible boss is Mushihimesama Futari's Queen Larsa.

>doc robot quick man

The fuck were they thinking?

Quick Man was hard, but he took extra damage from the buster, and you had the time stopper to drain half his health. Now neither of those things are true, his hitbox is much larger, and his 'weakness' has an awful habit of going everywhere in the room except where the boss is.

I kind of love how his Needle Cannon does almost no damage, but the big spike on his head is just brutal.

I kind of love how he's a fat fuck but has faster attacks than Shadow Man(who is supposed to be a ninja)

The doc robot section of MM3 just ruins the game for me. That and using the Top Spin only to watch as it randomly decides to instantly deplete upon one hit half the time. How do people think 3's the best mega man when stuff like 9 exists?

You can buster only him very, very easily. He just shoots in twin-mode when you do, allowing you to control the battle pretty directly.

People prefer 3 because they're being fake contrarians, they basically want to seem sophisticated because they prefer a game's sequel or prequel over the game itself(which is perceived as the normie pick, in this case MM2). What they end up doing instead is convincing themselves that an inferior game is actually superior simply because it's heard of less. People who think 3 is the best probably haven't even played 9

3's problem is double so that it starts VERY strongly- all 8 stages are great, and the Doc Robot levels themselves are a clever -concept- even though the mileage varies and the Docs themselves run from "interesting" to "Attack of the Giant Hitbox Starring This Faggot".

But after that you just get another Protoman fight that is unexplained sprite change, and then the easiest, shortest, worst Wily stages (and bosses) the series had ever seen.

The game starts you up so high, and then just drops you before you even know it.

I like 3 more than 2 for basically everything in your first paragraph. I can tolerate the... variable quality of the Doc Robot stages, and the frankly disappointing Wily stages mostly because anything is better than the fucking Boobeam Trap. That and I really, really like the slide.

One thing I never understood about Doc Robot is why the sprite itself exists. Couldn't MM2's roster have brought back as holograms or as beaten-up versions of themselves or something? Why did they bring back the entire cast and turn them into identical lardasses?

Up there with the easiest robot masters to buster. Shadow, Needle, and some of the Doc robots (Quickman specifically, but Woodman requires some precise jumps) are pretty difficult to buster-only, especially no damage.

Most of my Megaman experience is through the X games and MM8.

Pretty sure top spin just tics per frame you are holding the button and it is hitting an enemy. Tap that shit nigga.

I love 3 over 2 because I feel like the game is better balanced. They are pretty similar in quality, and I agree that 9 is great as well. I think those who see IV-VI as better than the previous (or 9/10) are smoking something though. Charge shot absolutely ruins the game, especially in IV

I'm not sure you know this, but the people who worked on MM3 have been incredibly open about the game being rushed as fuck. It's why Wily Fortress is so tepid, among other things.

Hell, they accidently left the debug options in the game so plugging in player 2's controller lets you have super jumps and freezes animations and the like.

real answer
i beat this boss when i was like 5

>trying to perfect buster only the doc bots
let me tell you about horse shit.

that one single fight is always someones go to for "hardest of all time" but I refuse to believe that even in it's own genre over 10 years later that it hasn't been topped without something literally unbeatable being made.

i agreed it was borderline impossible. its not the hardest of all time. borderline being the keyword and admittedly a slight exaggeration. aki and akka is harder, there are plenty of CAVE 2alls that are harder, and sdoj hibachi is waaaay harder.

I'm just saying after all these years with people still pulling that one out it feels like it must be the first result for googling "hardest video game boss ever". In reality though googling that out of curiosity myself just now gave me cancer.

Is Needle man hard? I've been so OP at this game since I was a kid I've forgotten if he ever gave me trouble or not.

so mega man as a whole isn't a really hard series for the most part but needle man is kind of a bitch since 3 has the ridiculous touch damage and bosses have xbox sized hitboxes. shadow man is much worse since he much more actively tries to run or slide into you.

sai dai ou jou definitely has harder bosses
there's probably others in, like, a yagawa game played at max rank
actually mushi mushi pork has a mode like this that's barely possible. some bosses are literally walls of bullets iirc so you need to save a bomb for them

>I'm just saying after all these years with people still pulling that one out
there are a few reasons for this. first of all, it's actually very difficult. even a simple clear of the first game took me a long time, it's way harder than 99% of the video games you see posted about here. CAVE doesn't make games anymore, and short of someone playing max rank of M2's Garrega rerelase, games that difficult simply aren't made any longer. it's not profitable. the second reason is of course the video, which is popular and visually impressive to someone that doesn't know what they're looking at.

>profitable
but since 2006 there have to have been people who have tried for no other reason than to just have the title of being a harder game. I'd imagine in a niche community that would have some draw. Either way, i'm not trying to say it's not hard, but even people who legitimately played and beat it probably had some online friend send them that fight saying "dude check out this insane hard game!" over the years.

now all that said I'm putting myself through the pain of top x lists of hard bosses to see what people consider hard and it just blows my mind that someone sat down and decided it was a good idea to put wood man on a list of hard bosses.

>but since 2006 there have to have been people who have tried
as mentioned before, sdoj is harder and it came out in 2012. it was CAVE's last game, and evidently must not have been profitable enough since they closed their arcade branch and moved to mobile games. arcades are dying in japan too. sdoj is a shit game compared to mushi futari, but i'll admit it's harder. making a good shmup isn't easy. the most recent one that was of any value was probably crimzon clover world ignition in 2014. it's fucking hard too. you're right though, most people that reference the futari video probably don't play shmups or know anything of them.

>arcades are dying in japan too
I can't say I'm surprised but it's said to hear. also I don't know how the fanbases compare them but I've heard the arcade version of gradius 3 was a notably hard shmup.

i never got into gradius, but if it's the one with the cube section it's famously difficult.

Yeah thats the one. I know I dont have the skill to compare the difficulty of either game but since they are two very different approaches to a shmup I've always wanted to know how they stack up against each other.

Just get Gemini Laser you fucking idiot

But to get gemini laser you need search snake, and to get search snake you need needle cannon.

fug needle man really is impossible after all

Needleman ga Taosenai

This always made me wonder about play testers. When does it get to a point where you tell the devs that something is impossible?

As a guy who is marathoning the classic Mega Man games, how would you guys rank 1-10 + Bass, from best to worst? I've beaten 1-3 so far and I think it's a tie between 2 and 3 for me, personally.

I can't rank them all individually, I marathoned them and it kinda became a blur, but my favorite is 9 or 6.

3 > 2 > 4 > 9 > 10 > 1 > 5 > 6 > 7 > 8 > Bass

Then just beat Snake Man? He's not that hard once you realize the trick:Stand on the central pillar and jump over him while he's running towards you. That's it.

PS: Try Mega Man V on GBC, it's got unique Robot Masters unlike the rest of the GBC Mega Man games and it happens to be pretty good once you get used to the physics.

Personally I'd rank the top 4 as 9>4>2>3, but those 4 spots are going to be heavily based on opinion.

It also has a pretty underrated soundtrack

What do you guys consider as the best fan-made Mega Man games?
Mega Man Unlimited and Make a Good Mega Man Level 2 are the ones I've played and they stood with the main games.
