For single player Guitar Hero. Rock Band was always better for just playing around with friends.

Guitar Hero all the way through, didn't care for rock band's look and sensible charts, I wanted maniacal charts, that's why I love Guitar Hero 3 and onward.(I hated WT though, it was an extremely ugly game).

This, Jesus, a lot of the lyrics on vocal mode weren't even readable. Drums sucked. Slide pad was awful. And that's not what Travis Barker looks like.

Rock Band since it's literally just an evolution of the Guitar Hero series by the same devs. Guitar Hero got kinda dumb with 3 and just became stupid after World Tour whereas Rock Band 2 and 3 are the best of the lot. Also Rock Band Blitz but I know I'm the only person that loved that game.

Guitar Hero played a lot better than Rock band. Rock Band was shit in most ways related to gameplay and aesthetics when you compare it to Guitar Hero. It just became more popular because it was known for all the instruments while most normies assumed guitar hero was just guitar.

Rock Band had the better everything. Songs, charts, music selection, DLC selection, plastic instruments, shit was universally an upgrade over Guitar Hero.

GH peaked at WoR or 2 if you wanna be traditional, and Rock Band peaked at 2. It's a shame GH is even deader than ever now and RB is just barely staying afloat. At least Clone Hero is a thing.

Guitar Hero had the entire 2112, so I'm inclined to vote for them.
Also Rock Band's controller felt like shit to GH's.

Rock Band eventually got that entire song as DLC. That being said, the RB guitars were basura.

Blitz was pretty damn fun, wish it had a standalone on PC with custom songs or something. Maybe RPCS3 will be able to play it with DLC at some point.
I always liked Rock Band more than Guitar Hero. The engine feels nicer in Rock band (sans the first ones engine, it's awful from what i remember), and the massive amount of songs is really nice, evern still getting songs for RB4 (though not at the rate the previous games got them). RB4's input lag and removal of keys are my only gripes. It plays better than RB1 but RB3 felt so damn perfect. At least RB4's setlist is pretty damn good. Just having Rush, Judas Priest, and The Protomen on it alone was rad as fuck.

On top of Rock Band getting 2112 (the song) later on, it also got Passage to Bangkok from the same album in RB4 on disc. Since launch of RB4 the only new Rush is Freewill but there's already a ton of them in the game so I'm happy.
