What will save 3D Sonic?

What will save 3D Sonic?
>Proper crossover with Mario
>Iizuka stepping down
>Bringing back old staff (Yuji Naka)

After the shitshow that was Forces it's not easy to predict what they'll do with him next. Especially since the Modern games take 3+ years to make.
Hopefully we don't get exclusively classic boy from now on.

Iizuka stepping down is a good start. He's the one that putting modern Sonic on this train of mediocrity for the past couple years, pretty much after Generations.

Who was the director of Unleashed and Generations? Just get them involved and don't fuck up anything else.

Also call up AM2's corpse and make Sonic and Sega All Star Fighting Megamix.

What the fuck happened to Sonic Team? It's an even bigger fall from grace than Sonic himself.

They were literally one of the best developers in the world at one point. NiGHTs: Into Dream is the fucking greatest. They were churning out new IP like Chu Chu, Burning Rangers and Samba Di Amigo.

>it's not easy to predict what they'll do with him next
Actually, it is fairly easy to predict, but it leads to a bad result. Japan seems to prefer Forces over Mania, especially since Forces scored higher than Mania on Famitsu. The remainder of the world prefers Mania, but Japan tends to focus on their region the most and will provide more Forces-like games that include Green Hill Zone and Chemical Plant Zone again for them in the future.

It's not even that fucking hard. How hard can it be to just make a decent 3D platformer featuring Sonic characters? It's almost as if Sega just refuse to do it.

Also, Classic Sonic shouldn't appear in 3D Sonic games. It's a blatant nostalgia cash-in scheme. It made sense in Generations because that was the entire point of the game, but in Forces it's just retarded.

it doesnt need to be saved
all 3D sanic games are trash

Utopia.

>indie games

I think the momentum-based physics are definitely necessary but this game is not even fun imo. To me the boner for this game comes from everyone wanting open-world tacked onto every franchise, which is just not what sonic is.

This.
They have all these unique characters but instead we get classic sonic with the worst physics seen in a platformer since S4E1

Bring back the Generations team

Mario Odyssey was the best 3D Sonic game yet, and it's not even a Sonic game.
Why did the Sonic team completely give up on momentum based platforming?

There's a whole lot more shitty people at Sonic Team than just Iizuka. Though he is definitely the most responsible.

Stop pretending and just make 3D Sonic a platformer/racer. Unleashed was clearly going for this despite the 2D segments, and Gens reigned it in to make the platforming a bit more involved (again despite the 2D). Something like Cloudbuilt but not as cheap.

I want a Banjo-Kazooie clone, where Sonic and Tails pair up to explore vast levels while learning new abilities. Basically Yuka Laylee except by an actual studio and not subpar kikestarter shit.

You literally can't. Sonic isn't meant for 3D.

A rouge game.

Foreverial delitized Sonic loves licking other people forever soon to be tied up by eggman with a permanent baloney tongue

wiping sonic team. Clean the slate. These incompetent fucks don't have any passion left. Get a new team and work on a single concept. I'd prefer trying to improve the adventure style of game without all the on rails nonsense generations/forces has. The 2d sections in those are so embarrassingly bad.

Hopefully:
>Boost formula that isn't shit, with levels that actually require you to play the game
What will happen instead:
>It's a friendship dating simulator within a little open world area like in adventure
>Your oc from forces can be transferred for extra bonuses
>They fully embrace the fandom and memes to milk the fuck out of money and do the best fanservice possible to save their name after forces

Apologize and stop making Sonic games.

this, or just make a 2.5d 3d sonic game because sonic was never meant to be viewed from anything but the side

The most basic thing Sonic Team can do is just go back to attempting momentum based 3D platformers. Even if it sucks, I will at least respect them for trying. It seems like they're too scared to even try something like that anymore though.

Let it burn. The new kids can take over from here

>Proper crossover with Mario

Why would Nintendo put an anchor around one of their most important series starring their mascot?

Better game, shittier porn. Come on people, get on that.

I remember when the story of games were more centered around everyone trying to get their hands on these bad boys, What happened?

>people still acting like Forces was bad
It’s certainly better than LW and that game managed to be okay.

...

What? Take over making bad games?

Even Lost World's levels had more going for them just being straight line boost to win stages. Forces is the worst Sonic Team game since Black Knight, fuck it.

>>Iizuka stepping down
This. Anyone who thinks otherwise, is a complete moron.
No one is hiring talent. While they're letting to old good talent bleed out. Whose fault is that? Whoever is fucking hiring.

Nice buzzwords. Opinion discarded.

I know boost to win used to be a buzzword, but Forces actually made it fucking true. That's the sad part. Just look at Luminous Forest, there's huge sections with absolutely nothing but boost pads and boosting through enemies and it ends with a long ass QTE segment. Forces is an embarrassment.

Yeah, it’s not. It’s a budget Sonic title that people need to stop sperging over like typical Sonic autists.

>3 girls as the main characters
>have a porn artist draw official art for the game
>only quality fanart is sfw
Is Freedom Planet the purest franchise?

>it's a budget title which means it should be immune to criticism
That's not how it works.

pure shite maybe lmao

Utopia will be the best sonic game of all time
Just you wait

Not what I said, retard. I guess you need to twist people’s words in order to not look like a jackass.

stop

I think the main reason Forces got so much crap was that it was released so soon after Mania, which was a legit 9/10 game

There's all the obvious developmental issues - Iizuka needs to be sacked, Sega's executives need to stop trying to get good games out of tiny development periods/budgets, things like that.

Mostly though, I feel like what Sonic needs for a good 3D Sonic game is to take a page out of Miyamoto's book and focus on getting Sonic to control nicely in a 3D space first before making anything else at all. It's plain as day with almost every 3D Sonic title that they come up with the concepts and the marketing hooks first - shit like werehogs, OCs, locales, gameplay gimmicks etc - and then they work backwards to get to all the important stuff like platforming, level design and structure.

I've got a whole bunch of stuff to say on how I think 3D Sonic should work, but it would fill dozens of posts. Maybe I should be a hack and make one of those 40 minute "how to fix 3D Sonic" Youtube tirades like everyone else does.

I do find it weird that not a single person thought of using the chaos emeralds against the phantom ruby in Forces.

But Forces is a fucking mess all over so I'm not surprised.

>have a porn artist draw official art for the game
who's the artist?

2D Sonic is a bunch of "HAHA YOU WERE GOING TOO FAST AND BUMPED INTO THIS ENEMY/SPIKES XDD"

Artificial, cheap bullshit "difficulty" like classic Mega Man and those "HAHA YOU JUMPED ACROSS THIS PIT BUT A ROBOT SUDDENLY POPPED IN AND YOU FELL"

Sonic + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

>2D Sonic is a bunch of "HAHA YOU WERE GOING TOO FAST AND BUMPED INTO THIS ENEMY/SPIKES XDD"
In the Dimps Sonic titles, I'd argue this to be somewhat true.

In Genesis Sonic, this is only true if you've got sub-standard reaction times, and is even less true in the Taxman Sonic games (Mania, 1/2/CD remasters) since the screen is far wider allowing you to see further ahead.

How to fix 3d sonic: Utopia

stop being bad. Only a couple levels like Metropolis (and Advance 3 in its entirety) are like that.

Levels are well designed enough that you'll see enemies coming 90% of the time. Especially in Mania and the enhanced ports of 1, 2 and CD since they're widescreen making it even easier to see.

There's no excuse for being shit at playing games that can be beaten by six year olds

>2D Sonic is a bunch of "HAHA YOU WERE GOING TOO FAST AND BUMPED INTO THIS ENEMY/SPIKES XDD"
t. retard who never played the classics or Mania and only the shitty Dimps games

Sonic 2 is guilty of that sometimes, it probably has the most "DIMPS" moments of the Classic games.

Utopia's tighter than anything Sega's come out with recently, but I still think there's a lot more that needs to be done with it. Personally, I'd want something of a middle ground - the slope physics of Utopia, but with a tighter/quicker homing attack, a punchier spin dash, and a host of other moves Sonic's picked up over the years in 3D like the Light Speed Dash or the bounce bracelet.

Not everything 3D Sonic did was terrible, so I don't think elements like these should be scrapped outright - just executed better.

wide eyed and vulnerable

I used to genuinely think this, but then I played mania

>Just you wait
and wait, and wait, and wait...

>Bringing back old staff (Yuji Naka)
Actually, Naka was part of what held back Sonic save for Sonic '06, which was going to be rushed anyway. All they need to do is take their time with it. That's literally it. Take your time and don't rush. But that's like telling a toddler not to touch a freshly baked pie out the oven.

I'm willing to wait. A mere tech demo is /objectively/ better than anything sonic team has shat out in 20 odd years.
Fire Iizuka immediately

Forces was better than Mania though.

Well I'm sick of waiting, and for that matter where the ever living fuck is Overture, after like two years of silence all they have to show is a new fucking logo and another missed SAGE.

...

Why even post if you can't be bothered thinking up good bait?

>Forces was better than Mania though.

Why?

>What the fuck happened to Sonic Team?
Sonic Team today is comprised of almost completely different people.

He's from /sthg/, they genuinely feel it's better due to being in 3D and making your OC.

>3D
>over half the game is 2D sections
lol

What else do you expect from those brainlets?

Again, /sthg/ is full of underage, cancer and yesmen. Make one critique about anything and someone'll cry YOUR SHITPOSTING.

>big brown bat boobs: the game

how's that going to save the series?

>big brown bat boobs: the game
how would that not save the series?

Stop thinking with your dick, faggot. We need functional games, not blatant fapbait.

>implying that place isn’t classicfag central
At least be correct if you’re going to talk shit.

t./sthg/ forcebabby

t. ignoramus

The only reason Modernfags even defend Forces is because they have an Us vs. Them mentality against Classicfags, especially after Mania. Forces has everything they hate, too much 2D, not enough 3D, nostalgia baiting, Sonic Team playing it too safe. I know deep down inside they really don't like Forces that much.

Wonder when will they accept defeat? Since after Sega said that they'll look at the reception of both Mania and Forces to decide the direction of the series' future Mania ended up selling gangbusters and got rave reviews from both critics and fan base alike, while Forces got the polar opposite of that. Also this is STILL pinned to this day.

What's wrong with indie devs

Literally nothing.

Sonic is a marketing relic of the 90s, he wasn't supposed to live this long

I think what matters in Utopia is that the momentum based movement mechanics work pretty well. The level design is very placeholder-y and it was never intended to look like a finished/professional product in that sense.

The sense of speed and control over sonic on it feels a million times better than any 3D sonic game ever.

Iizuka hasn't been in an important role since forever. Being producer of the games doesn't actually mean much, and starting with Forces he's not even doing that anymore, he's working in the US on licensing shit. The person you want to go after is the director and lead game designer for making shitty games, not the producer.

Yes, I too, watched RLM's shitty video user.

WHO IS HIRING?! Who put the director and lead game designer in their roles?

With a corporation as big as Sega, I highly doubt the producer has any real say in that either. He probably just tells corporate what he wants for staff, corporate crunches the numbers and hires what they want to spend instead of what the producer wants, and the actual hiring process is handled by some middle management human resources suit. Plus individual staff members get shuffled around dev teams all the time depending on what projects are underway at any given time.

>Who was the director of Unleashed and Generations?
The people that no longer works for SEGA

This is depressing.

I found a thing
youtube.com/watch?v=vhfrfKpGfJo

>To me the boner for this game comes from everyone wanting open-world tacked onto every franchise
I, for one, am not everyone. I don't want Sonic's Breath of the Wild, but if there's one thing I want a 3D Sonic game to do is A: have momentum based physics, and B: NOT be confined to a hallway. I'm tired of Crash Bandicoot levels in my Sonic game. Why the fuck does anyone defend this shit? It's a FUCKING 3D GAME, Mario 64, Rayman 2/3, Sonic Adventures, etc aren't hallway games, they are proper 3D games. You don't need Utopia tier open spaces for Sonic to work, just enough space to move around the 3D space to do whatever you want with a clear goal to reach.

>Who was the director of Unleashed and Generations?
Unleashed was Yoshihisa Hashimoto, he left for Square Enix in 2009 and then later left them and seemingly left the video game industry entirely.

Generations was Hiroshi Miyamoto. He's seemingly still with SEGA and was last seen working with Arzest on the 3DS version of Mario & Sonic Rio 2016.

>mostly just artists from almost a decade ago
If a lot of level designers or people in lead roles left, then it'd be more concerning, but these examples don't seem like big players or are easily replaceable.

The giant corporation hires the producer, so the producer can make decisions like which talent to hire.

>It’s certainly better than LW and that game managed to be okay.
How can that be when Forces is a romhack of Lost World?
>inb4...

I want a Sonic Breathe of the Wild. Because it would be incredibly fun to run along the vast landscape. And then having shines with more focused obstacle courses. Honestly sounds like an awesome game.

Looking for objects in an open world does not suit Sonic at all. That just sounds like Shadow the Hedgehog's shitty missions all over again.

Just one end goal please. Make the world big and have a bunch of different paths and slopes and shit but don't make the purpose of the game to find shit, please. If there has to be stuff to find, make it optional stuff like special stages or power ups.

>Maybe I should be a hack and make one of those 40 minute "how to fix 3D Sonic" Youtube tirades like everyone else does.
You should, those videos are great. Except for that ONE video, you know the one...

...

A cool crossover.

Make it Adult-Rated so you can have sex with Big the Cat.
