a 30% reduction in performance would put it below a stock 1400
Still rocking well.
Did my very first upgrade to the rig during its now 7 years of service, mere couple months ago; swapped GTX 560ti 1GB with the pic's 6GB 1060.
4670k
1060 6gb
8gb RAM
probably going to bite the bullet and just fucking buy more RAM since the prices dont look like they are ever going to drop
im being facetious.
most bios updates for asus right now show a 4% drop in game fps.
>instant shit flinging in the OP for no reason
Fuck off.
It's always the same faggot OP too, with that build, and shit waifu.
rude
It's dependant on game heavily. Open world and those with asset streaming will be hit harder. Netcode will have longer latency even if it doesn't hit FPS. Game loading will be longer too. The more syscalls hit, the worse off the game. Minecraft is the worst case scenario.
That said this generally means Ryzen has higher IPC than Intel now.
i'm waiting to see what happens.
i think most pc users won't notice a difference. the only difference will be servers.
Gaming rarly even stress's the CPU. where you -will- suffer is things like hosting servers in games or emulation.
I know it must get annoying have every meme lord rub it in your face because they haave had it rubbed in their faces for years now. but you have to be realistic about whats happened.
4770k
780
I'm waiting for Ryzen+ benchmarks and whatever Intel is releasing this year
Volta too
Yep
Here's what it did to one of the Fortnite servers when they applied the patch to one instance.
Stay mad retard
Zen+ will just be a refinement, Zen 2 is the real meme
i7 8700K
1080ti
32gb RAM
Games look nice, but I still hate myself.
ryzen+ just seems like it's going to be the same cpus with higher base clocks.
i was considering ryzen last year but they had very little matx options and i'm honestly happy with my 6700k. unless my performance drops a ton from now until june, i won't be switching.
i also think intel is going to find a way to fix this.
do we need to worry about this meltdown thing or can i take a nap
I'm not really bothered by it.
Adblock + NoScript + up to date browsers + 3rd party AV / Firewall + lil' bit of common sense = things will be OK.
6700K
16GB of RAM
1080Ti
gonna replace my 6700K this year with a Ryzen 2 CPU. Don't care about single threaded performance that much since I play on a 4K monitor so I'm only doing 60Hz anyway.
you're fine
Built this a couple of months ago. How did I do? Got the CPU to 4GHz.
It's not a bug, it's correct behavior by design and requires a redesign of their pipeline to do the proper permission checks before execution. It can't be fixed with microcode updates. Came out at a terrible time for the dev cycle too, won't be fixed until Icelake-E/X and Tigerlake in late 2019. Icelake-S is already back from the fabs and any re-layouts now would result in an untenable 6-8 month delay.
The only the thing OS patches do is hide the data through expensive mapping and unmapping on context switches.
Ryzen 2 isn't Zen 2, wait for 7nm
i just don't think it's worth upgrading over.
there's probably some security flaw with amd that we don't know of yet
Yeah Variant 1 hit them too but that one was patched without hurting performance. Variant 2 theoretically can be done on AMD but all attempts have failed. Variant 3 just plain doesn't work on AMD, thats the one where the patch nukes performance on syscalls.
And you're right, there probably is, but usually when vulns are patched they don't fuck performance. Variant 3 is a special case because the only way to patch it is mapping and unmapping the kernel memory space on every context switch (ie syscalls, os level operations, etc)
You have buyer's remorse, user.
...
>that one was patched without hurting performance
The patch isn't out yet. AMD says it doesn't hurt performance but we heard the same bullshit from Intel about their microcode patch and that one hurt the most.
So much that I am not applying the BIOS update. Fuck that.
CPU temp is high because I'm playing a game.
>Z77
Asus is not going to release a spectre update for you guys. You know that right?
nah the patch for variant 1 was put out months ago, it was found in June. Variant 3 wasn't cracked until late November.
I don't even know what you're talking about.
Spectre/Meltdown
i7 6700k
rx470 4gb
8gb ram
How does the reductiom come into effect? Via windows update to patch the vurnability or bios update?
>moe anime wallpaper
>desktop complete empty
AMD spectre Variant 2 patch isn't out yet. Although no practical exploit has been proven to work on AMD yet, just theoretical ones.
Aren't those updates OS and CPU-based though?
Same here, except regular gtx 1080. I won the silicon lottery on my chip, but I have an NZXT h440 case which has shit air flow. Looks stellar though.
Windows update was reported to be 30%
The bios update appears to do even more damage but since it is just out, no one has benched it yet.
Not that old, for how much more time do you guys think I can keep using it without an upgrade?
whats wrong with an empty desktop?
3 Variants
1st one is already patched out.
2nd one requires a BIOS update.
3rd one was via Windows.
...
>people with old 4c/4t CPUs like 2500k/3570k paired with modern GPUs
>can't even keep a steady 60fps in crysis 3
how do you even live?
>Ryzen 2 isn't Zen 2, wait for 7nm
I might, I don't have a problem with my 6700K really.
Get on my level plebs
Well I've been meaning to get a new motherboard anyway since I'm actually going to be upgrading my CPU. Which brand will be getting these updates?
5-30% depending on the load, muh gaymes are nearer to that 5% mark
Just put me out of my misery.
Closer to 0% actually.
Both got the first, both need the second, Intel only on the third.
AMD comes out looking better
My 2500k clocked at 4.5ghz coupled with a 980ti managed to maintain 60 fps with ease. The ending cutscene when prophet used the satellite rail gun made me diamonds.
>crysis 3
Why not pick something somebody plays instead.
idk but for some reason i bought a ryzen 5 1400 instead of a ryzen 5 1500x even though it was like $50 more, now i'll have to upgrade in a few years but the new ryzens will be out so...good call? idk my old computer had a 10 year old core2duo and it was only just not good enough to play games on medium so i thought cpu wouldn't matter but $50..did i do the wrong thing?
Feels good to not fall for the Intel/Nvidia meme. So glad I don't have to deal with him performance decreases.

Not your image.
bait
On benchmarking machines running nothing but the game on a 7700K sure. Every time a syscall is made on a core it basically has to drop everything for half a ms or so, and that counts on hyperthreads as well. If you're already CPU bound in a game it'll hurt even more.
RIP if you have an i3/Bentium and want to listen to music at the same time as a game. Or record gameplay, that'll be really fucked.
i bet you are :)
once the 6700k gets nerfed it might be on the 1700's level lmao
1400 and 1500X are the same, just the 1500X is clocked higher at stock. Just overclock to 4ghz, you can do it on the stock cooler even.
>not using Sup Forums x's file name randomizer
pleb
I just won't update the bios or windows, sorted.
you do realise to hack your shit you'd have to be some kind of international superspy with launch codes for nukes for any interest from hackers.
current one, but i already ordered new parts and will be giving this one to my brother
new PC:
>AMD Ryzen 5 1600X 3.6GHz
>ASRock X370 Taichi
>Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB 2400MHz DDR4 CL14 KIT OF 2
>Gigabyte GeForce GTX1070 8GB
reusing same drives and PSU, will be giving an old PSU for my brother and he had to buy some drives
>tfw just made 10k from crypto currency putting it in random shitty coins so now I have enough to build a 2nd gen threadripper + 1180 when they come out
feels amazing lads
ty
It's a laptop.
Patch meltdown.
Don't be a dumbass. By forgoing the V3 patch, you are forgoing all future security updates which is just plain fucking stupid.
2500k and 2600k literally offer the same single core performance as most ryzen cpus.
amd may be laughing now with performance drops most users won't notice but i find it absolutely hilarious that a 7 year old intel chip performs better than any cheap chink shit amd shits out.
I've been wanting to upgrade something for a few months now, any idea what I should do?
Yeah, think of the X CPUs as more pre-overclocked than anything else. 1200/1300X; 1400/1500X; 1600/1600X; and 1700/1700X/1800X are all the same core configuration but with different clocks, and they'll all overclock to around 4ghz, with lucky ones hitting 4.1ghz, and liquid at around 4.2ghz.
nice windows shilling, you're like one of those people that think an antivirus is something necessary.
Upgrading to Ryzen 2000 series
This' what I could afford with my first job a year ago.
Please no bully.
>Nice windows shilling
Even Linux users are patching it. What the fuck does that tell you?
Talk to me when you can get a 6700k for $220,sweaty.
you also realize that the patch and bios update literally don't affect you more than 5% at best?
it only affects servers. meaning even if you use ryzen your game servers are going to be shit if they use intel.
a 5% drop in intel cpus > overclocked ryzen cpu
Ryzen and Haswell have the same IPC roughly. Sky/Kaby/Coffee all are only around 3% above Haswell/Ryzen. The only major difference is in 256 bit AVX performance, which hardly anything uses. Intel is ahead in single thread solely due to hitting higher clocks.
Sandy is around 12% behind per clock, but still hits higher clocks anyways.
It is, I'm on mobile and saved it from another thread that I originally posted it in.
Recommend a motherboard, I am debating going I5 8400 or Ryzen 1600.
Wait for the 3000 series mang. All the 2000 series will be is Ryzen at 4.5ghz~
i got mine for $270 brand new
and my motherboard and ram weren't expensive because ryzen mobos can't handle ram over 2400hz :)
i spent $200 on a motherboard and 16gb of ram versus spending $270 for an equivalent am4 motherboard and ram. feels great desu.
Everyone knows security updates are just a meme unless you're running a banking business or some shit and need to protect against hacking.
Whois gonna go out of their way to invade some shmucks pc, for everything else theres 3rd party AV. Getting issues from lack of security updates is like winning a 1mil $ lottery.
1% FPS are absolutely fucking shot.
I played Grim Dawn today and since it was a semi open world with little to no loading screens between zones, everytime something load my frame pacing just shat the fucking bed. I had to revert my BIOS to make the game playable again.
i'd wait until intel figures this out.
i wouldn't waste your money yet.
cute neko
don't buy AMD they are fucking trash don't get memed by 4chin.
8400 doesn't OC, 1600 does
as for boards, Gigabyte is best, Asrock second best, Asus third; they really dropped the ball while Asrock stepped up.
>Getting issues from lack of security updates is like winning a 1mil $ lottery.
Oh you mean like Wannacry that crippled multiple companies last year? Yeah that was a lot of people winning 1 million dollar lotteries dumbass.
Hey it is your PC, suit yourself.
you mean like the millions of retards who didn't update and got fucked by wannacry?
by all means don't update your shit. don't use an av or a bitcoin miner. let me know how that works out :)
This "vulnerability" has been there since day one, why fix something that will not effect me anyways?
you fuckers are retarded.
t. Retard
My 16gb of 2933 begs to differ. Ram compat was helped by a BIOS update awhile back. minority of sets will hit 2666, majority hit 2933, a few hit 3200, a couple hit 3600.
also an $80 motherboard doesn't sound like a good idea, did you buy an H series chipset?
post wallpaper please
You just proved his point,
>Wannacry that crippled multiple companies
companies not some fucking random cunt in the middle of bumfuck nowhere, what they gonna do steal his waifu?
Nigga look at my screen shot, my ram 3066 out of the box. Yall Intel niggas blind af.
>nekofags
They weren't targeted idiot.
That is the point. It was a random malware running around infecting whatever PC it could get its hands on that was unpatched. Turns out majority of companies don't fucking patch their PC.
