Final Fantasy XIII came out 9 years ago

Final Fantasy XIII came out 9 years ago.

And it's not as bad as people make it out to be.

It was pretty good. I was disappointed with the boring gameplay and the endless hallway meme, but it was atmospheric and I enjoyed the story.

Every FF13 trailer was look amazing at that time.

>there are people on this board who were born when the 360 came out
What the fuck is going on

How did we go from this...

Still my favorite FF. The visual design was on point and the ATB system with paradigms was just a lot of fun.

No, 9 years ago.

FFVII, FFX, FFXI, FFXIII are the best FF games

Offline FF games should never be open world

The story and writing are worthless and the level design is trash.

I can't hate the story because I'm a hopeless yurifag.

The corridors are an obvious flaw but people exaggerate it a bit. I think the lack of party options for most of the game is a much bigger flaw, personally.

There's literally nothing to do in the game except go from point a to b

Wow, this heavy-handed statement describes 90% of final fantasy vidya

Wrong

>yfw ffxv is somehow worse than this

How did they do it ? how can someone make a game worse than fff13?

Well first of all xiii isn't a bad game

Second of all they made xv's gameplay complete ass

I'd say they're both pretty bad for different reasons. XIII was too linear with basicly no optional content and too story focused with a party that all feel like strangers even at the end.
While XV is just huge and empty for the sake of being empty while still having almost no optional content at least good content except for 2 dungeons and story is barely existent, but the main party actually feels like they know each other well but it still doesn't matter because we don't see how they meet what they actually do etc. not the mention the cut invasion so you don't even give a shit about Regis or when you return to your kingdom.
And not to fucking mention the early access nature for 1-2 years and 2 season passes just to get shit that should've really been in the main game especially Prompto and Ignis DLC and the Ardyn thing that'll come eventually.
Then again maybe XV is actually worse since XIII at least spawned XIII-2 which was fun imo.

But Square has changed anyway, people eat XV up for some reason and a lot of people seem to like it. Other companies would get shit for releasing an early access game with multiple season passes meanwhile XV gets awards for it

Wrong, there's actually shit to do in all the other games.

Gameplay was too boring for me, kept falling asleep and I love basically every FF other than the 13 trilogy

nah XV has better gameplay, better "level design", better writing, better story.

You know whats funny
Its pretty obvious they made XV open world in response to XIII being too linear.
But the dungeons genuinely felt like I was playing Final Hallway XIII again. These fucks haven't learned their lesson at all

and its even worse than people made it out to be. Just uninstalled it after 10 hours. Those fucking levels, that shitty combat system and the bland characters.

And there's actually shit to do in xiii, too. But admitting that would go against the memes I guess.

>huge and empty
As opposed to previous FFs with their huge world full of random encounters and more random encounters and more random encounters and...oh wait.

And it's still just as bad today.

>better writing, better story.
I disagree, its on the same level as FF13, also the combat in FF13 is better.

FF13 have also better art direction, sure the level design is trash but the backgrounds are fucking beautiful unlike FF15 which had only open empty spaces, caves and that dumb area outside the lucis building which we have seen million times

>There are people who actually like this dogshit game

The army is no match for Nora still haunts my dreams to this day

Oh fuck off with that argument already. In older games it took like 5 seconds to walk from one city to another, not a 5-10 minute car ride and older games at least had optional summons or other good hidden content. 2-3 dungeons in XV were fine, that's about it, just my opinion though so don't get buttblasted like most XV fanboys

Me too. It was fun, senpai.

>In older games it took like 5 seconds to walk from one city to another
You mean 5 seconds of walking plus 3 hours of random encounters. Yeah the 2 minute car ride in XV is fucking unbearable, what were they thinking?

I liked it too, once you accept the flaws it's pretty damn fun.

>Appears for 2 minutes
>dies
>not even a boss fight
And Cid also only appears for like 5 minutes but at least you fight his zombie crystal form

>its on the same level as FF13
No, FFXV doesn't speak in terms it never defines.
FFXV's story doesn't have 20 hours of filler.

>final fantasy threads

>you can't enjoy flawed games

Jihl's death is one of my biggest gripes. So much wasted potential.

Bart's a dick

Imagine if FF13 was released this generation, imagine the amount of dumb DLC

People also like AND defend FFXV
Everything is possible in the FF fanbase

I enjoyed XIII and think XIII-2 is the best FF.
I enjoyed every FF title.

They already overcompensated that with 13-2 and LR

It's physically impossible to enjoy ii. I know, I tried. Everyone memes about xiii being the worst but ffii is just straight up shit vidya.

Not that guy, but II is the only one i haven't played yet from the mainline because all the shit it gets, i might play the PSP version because i read that's it's pretty easy, but i don't know if the story is worth it

It's very similar to X, but I don't see people shitting on it. I also liked X.

Give it a shot if only for sake of completion. But you probably will not enjoy it.

You xv fags always have the best arguments

Yeah it doesn't even have lootboxes or pixel graphic like what the fuck is this crap

There's flawed like Deadly Premonition and Dragons Dogma (which are enjoyed not only in spite of their flaws but because of them), then there is fucking atrocious like FFXIII. Of what I played of it before I gave up on it, over half of my time was watching probably the worst cutscenes I've ever seen in a game. It wasn't just that the writing and voice acting was awful, it was that they were so expensively animated and took themselves so seriously. All that time and effort making those cutscenes wasted on that shit script and even worse acting. And that was only one half of the game. The gameplay is equally bad. It is just running down corridors, hopefully avoiding all the enemies because combat is so boring, before you reach a boss fight. Then you do it all over again. What is there to enjoy?

No it just has large chunks of the story missing from the game that you have to buy later. Is that your defense for ffxv? That it doesn't have jew boxes and a shitty indie pixel art style?

maybe you should go back to playing mario, lol

Guess it just wasn't to your liking. The story is alright and the music is spot on. The combat gets a lot more fun and the hallways go away in the latter half of the game, but it definitely requires you to be interested in the story and aesthetic at the start.

If the leveling system was just the sm traditional get EXP, then it'd be on par with FFI. But instead, we get a horrible grindfest. Still, a grindfest is at least more interesting than "push A and L1 faster than the boss can kill you"
Playing the original FFXII, I turned Gambits off. The only time I used them was on party members that weren't the leader. And even then, they were all "attack enemy." Still a shit system but at least I was playing, and against bosses my input actually mattered, not relying on prerequisites if I win or not.

At least 2 had the excuse of being an experimental game in a relatively new genre. 13 took away literally everything interesting about FF and replaced it with hallways and even more melodrama. Probably the worst game I've ever played that works as intended. The intent was just god awful.

>Vanille never shuts the fuck up
>Hope is the deluted form of annoyance
>Snow says he's a hero and yells Serah for the 100th time
>Lightning groans loudly and starts being a bitch for the 150th time
>Sazh starts yapping about "we are enemies of coccoon and muh lcies and cieths" for the 200th time
Did they carefully engineered the whole cast to be unlikable? It did worked

One of the main plot points is a big focus on character growth, which all of main characters went through by the time the game ended.

Did i hit a nerve? Don't worry FF will have lootboxes soon enough. Or you'll get multiple season passes to fil lthe story gaps

Well that failed miserably, Snow didn't even attempted to grow an inch.

Wrong

I see no mention of Fang. Is she an exception or did you just not get far enough to meet her?

But he did, the dude thought he was a hero until he fucked up miserably and realized how to not be a retard.

I will never not be mad

...

She's just an acessory to Vanille, not a character.

Well you do have the 100 kill quests in gran pulse and thats about it.

>confronting vanille
>accepting ragnarok
>not a character

Are you conveniently forgetting the entire post game challenge section with a bunch of different hard fights

Someone post the Lightning x Serah incest pics from the previous thread.

Isn't that still the gran pulse missions or am i missing something.

Who else loved this game and the rest of the trilogy while not giving a fuck about Sup Forums contrarians? LR is still one of my favorite games of all time

I didn't really like XIII, but i was really interested in Yeul, Noel and Caius and their whole timetravel saving plot, i wish the game would be only about them. LR had good gameplay at least

this, people act as if this was the worst game ever. it's an average game that is only logical for a lot of people to enjoy. I'm starting to think people hate on it just so seem cool

gosh, can one of you retards criticize this game without using the word "corridors"? It's like you're regurgitating somebody else's opinion

>I'm starting to think people hate on it just so seem cool
That's literally 75% of Sup Forums

which is pretty dumb because all these posts are anonymous but hey. some people really need to try the games before bashing them instead of just playing through the first 20 minutes with lightning and sazh and dropping the game forever

Shitting on the story in 13 while trying to pretend that other FF games or just JRPGs in general are some grand masterpieces of writing is legit one of my least favorite Sup Forums memes. JRPG stories are collectively awful and 13 is pretty much on the same level as most FFs. Also if you're unironically pretending the combat system in 13 is bad you are trying way too fucking hard to hate the game because it's objectively one of the best JRPG combat systems and literally the only thing wrong with it was that it took a bit too long before it gave you full freedom with it.

Anyone who believes this is literally retarded.

Sure can. Healing after every fight while limiting XP makes encounters with the same groups of enemies boring as fuck. There's no secret characters/jobs/anything besides weapon upgrades that can make things interesting. The game locks you in the tutorial for an overly simplistic combat system for fucking ever. Bosses are just switching to party formations at the right time and that's it.

The story could be incredible but I don't want to slog through 60 hours of awful gameplay to get to it

What else would you call a long, narrow stretch of closed-in pathway?

I would've enjoyed XIII a lot more if it wasn't a mainline title.

As a game i would rate XV slightly higher, as a product way lower. It's a fucking early access game at full price back then with multiple season passes and outside media

>Bosses are just switching to party formations at the right time and that's it
Are you serious? That's still infinitely more interactive than your average JRPG.

Hallways and one empty steppe with no optional content. X isn't much better in terms of linearity, but it at least had optional places and late game content and optional summons etc

>with no optional content
You people really need to actually play a game before you start talking about it desu

I really don't care about its issues as a product. It's been updated considerably since release. The second season pass will consist of initially unplanned material that was demanded by fans.

>ff14 a mmo turned out to be better ff in recent years

FUCKING HOW

I don't think I'll ever not be surprised at how they were able to do worse than XIII with XV.

FFXI was better than X, so what?

gosh, you have no way to refute it but still want to,just admit it,this game is just corridors, and corridors are shit

>The second season pass will consist of initially unplanned material that was demanded by fans.
This sentence makes me embarrassed of this medium. Why don't you demand anything from these companies?
>Oh they're not so bad, this bit of DLC will make the game a complete product
Why not just not buy the season pass? Why not tell Squeenix to go fuck themselves for not releases a complete game?

>december 2009 japan
>march 2010 everyone else
that's 8 years ago

>eops

I think XIII is alright, and honestly don't have a problem with the hallways. Or at least I'm okay with linear progression. What would have been nice though is if every area had some sort of mechanical gimmick. Kind of like how that one foresty bit where you could change the weather? And it changed which/where enemies spawned? If every area had a more involved gimmick like that it would have done a lot to liven up the game

I really like the combat though. I've always found it weird how people shit on the combat when it's one of the most involved and overall difficult combat system the series has seen. people just notice the 'auto attack' button and wig out for some reason without understanding why it's there what impact it actually has

I don't care enough to get angry about it. Most of the added gameplay content was free anyway, so I'm not really fussed. I enjoyed the game enough.

>people just notice the 'auto attack' button and wig out for some reason without understanding why it's there what impact it actually has
Because the people who still shit on 13 only played the game for 10 minutes if at all.

That's exactly why i dislike it. I doubt it for full price at launch so i kinda want a full game and don't want to go back every few months for a new cutscene or a new hunt or pay for two season passes for DLC that fills gaps

>i really don't care
>i don't care
No wonder Square tries less and less to actually make good finished games when fans just eat that shit up + tax + dlc

That's Square Enix's contracted deadline bullshit for you. I'm cutting Tabata slack since he's actually taking the time to try and clean the mess.

I'd be more pissed off if they released the game in its initial state and then did nothing with it. They're working on it. I can wait.
