I occasionally boot up some Brogue.

Can you play as them in the ps4 version

That's clearly a roguelite.

what game?

Have you seen gameplay footage?
Mystery Chronicle One Way Heroics

Yeah, I heard a thing or two about it.

>SC tries to remake a good roguelike
>it sucks and has way less content the original had for twice the price
I'm so mad I bought that piece of shit

That's not the game OP posted :^)
Seriously though, why do you think it's a roguelite? I'd say games like Isaac, FTL, Nuclear Throne, Spelunky are roguelites, but this game's gameplay is very similar to other roguelikes I've played, except that you can choose to start with better gear than normal.

God damn this game sucks so fucking bad

How do I gitgud at this one?

Doesn't it have twice the classes and more weapon types? I know they completely fucked up with their favorite traps, but I thought it actually had more content.

>>it sucks and has way less content the original

Lies,it has more content than the original.

One way heroics is a roguelike following the code of the berlin interpretation. It fits almost every factor.

Isn't the original dev working on another project? Not sure if it's OWH related.

been going on a Lovecraft kick recently because I started a Call of Cthulhu campaign. Infra Arcana is a severely underappreciated free roguelike that everyone should check out

He's working on a sequel

OWH >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> MC

So we still doing Sup Forums runs random map of the day, or this long dead?

ToME

Very few

90% of Roguelikes are RNG bullshit and fail to strike the balance between skill and RNG.

While I do enjoy regular OWH+ over Mystery Chronicles. I did enjoy Mystery Chronicles for what it had over what OWH+ did not. And while it is the far more expensive product, I am very pleased with having gotten both.

Now if only a third game could be made. Then I'd plunge deep into it all over again.

Nice. Just found his site and things are looking pretty good so far. Really digging the hextiles.

Yeah, but I'm having a hard time enjoying Mystery Chronicles, it's so grind heavy.
>>it sucks and has way less content the original had for twice the price
?
It has roughly double the content and more classes than the original, what are you smoking?

Only rogueLITE I play at the moment is exanima. Abandonware tho, as expected

>Abandonware
Damn, I've been looking forward to it for years cause of the webms posted here, it looks fun

It is quite fun, but apparently the devs have not communicated in any way in a year now

owh+ or owh?

I started playing DCSS again, probably will get bored in a week cause the wiki doesn't work for me so no clue if I'm doing good or bad
Might just get back to playing elona or one way heroics+

You can easily break Owh
you can't owh+ but it has more content, companions and a true ending

o.O this danganronpa?

it's a danganronpa reference in a game that was remastered by danganronpa's devs.
next time please read the thread before posting

So who here has actually managed to beat the dimensional ruler?
With no vault?

Use the crawl bots
crawl.develz.org/wordpress/bots

me on mystery chronicles I think
can't do it on owh+ though cause they nerfed puglist hero

eh I still have no idea if I'm supposed to go to lair the second I see it, the general progression shit

Generally i do
D:10>Lair>Orcish Mines>D:10 to D:15

thanks user, maybe I'll progress next time

I did, but only on Grueling Campaign

put game name into Subject next time faggot

every few months i'll spend a couple weeks playing nothing but roguelikes, but i'm utter shit and never beat anything
i could probably do better if i didn't always play FoFi in stone soup, archaeologist in nethack or pirate in OWH but what can i say, i know what i like

I plan too

did you try elona

>almost
so it's not a roguelike

>It's actually getting a translation
Thank you God

roguebasin.com/index.php?title=Berlin_Interpretation
The only ones it doesn't fit are 'ASCII display' and 'Dungeons'.
The Berlin interpretation is flawed but lacking two low value factors still qualifies a game; even NetHack doesn't fulfill 'Non-modal' which is a high value factor.

what does non-modal mean

Whats it like to have autism?

>free money
probably nice

Just wait faggot GOPs going to fuck your lazy commie nigger welfare, then you get to suffer like the rest of us.

"Movement, battle and other actions take place in the same mode. Every action should be available at any point of the game."

I don't understand this that's why I asked

Here's a temporary solution to the wiki being down
web.archive.org/web/20170616201723/http://crawl.chaosforge.org/Crawl_Wiki

i have but i've never made it very far
it appeals to my autism quite a bit but every time i try it i get raped by hungry ghosts or something
i'll still probably give it another go, though

And 90% of what you think is RNG bullshit is death by player error.

Aren't both Rogue and NetHack the same in this regard? I don't understand the autism about being this strict about defining "roguelike" in the first place, but the way this is described both of those games should be non-modal.

It means there aren't any minigames, Final Fantasy-esque battle screens or overworld traveling modes.

It has more content, they fucked up FPS being locked on 30 and online features being Twitter-only. And they implemented traps, which were heavily disliked.

It's strict because it's a subgenre of turn-based RPGs, which is a subgenre itself. I don't understand why people are trying to hijack an extremely niche and unpopular subgenre in the first place. Bastardizing the term just ruins it for everybody involved.

Just realized that I was referring to 'Grid-based', and then I copied without actually looking...
In NetHack some enemies take up multiple squares breaking 'Grid-based', and with the traditional titles Crawl, Angband and ADOM aren't completely 'Non-modal' with how the shops work.

Personally I find the definition silly since the only game that actually follows it fully is Rogue making it completely redundant.

That chart ironically explains it better than anything else ever could. Why did whoever make it hijack the term "hack and slash" and decide that Crypt of the Necrodancer is a hack and slash, but Diablo, the literal reason the term even exist, isn't? That is exactly what is is happening to roguelikes right now.

as someone who is an autist who likes roguelikes, it pisses me off because it's a very small and well defined genre
most games that are branded as roguelikes these days like isaac or nuclear throne or whatever else don't play anything like roguelikes. it's like calling madden a real time strategy game or calling ocarina of time a first person shooter. having a couple "game elements" like permadeath or procedural generation doesn't make your game a roguelike and calling these games roguelikes only makes it harder for people who actually enjoy roguelikes to find or discuss them

it's incredibly tiring and frustrating to deal with kids in roguelike threads who think BoI is the most amazing "roguelike" ever and have 0 interest in playing the actual genre

It putting Eleona in the maybe and ToME in the strict category clearly shows that it's faulty.

Bullshit, hack and slash is much older than Diablo, and it's almost always used to describe the style of an RPG or ARPG game where the vast majority of gameplay is combat.

been playin quite a bit of this since I saw a thread about it on the /tg/ ss13 discord.

It's like a card game and rougelike in one. You build your deck based on events and choices presented to you throughout the game
allowing for some pretty unique and cool strats.

How come Rogue isn't a hack and slash, then?

it fits more than DCSS which is considered one of the core roguelikes. Essentially nothing fits all of the precepts except for Rogue itself.

So One Way Heroics is a roguelike?
It's drastically different from the titles listed, but it follows the flow chart perfectly.
