If you can stand weak gameplay, Okage has one of my favorite JRPG stories. Mother 3 is another strong one.
Not an RPG (a story-based puzzle game) but Ghost Trick's story is a wild ride and I recommend it highly as someone who considers RPGs their favorite genre.

Sup Forums will shit on it left and right, but if you typically love JRPGs, the Tales series is generally very comfy. Berseria, Abyss, Vesperia, and Symphonia are all considered good entry points, although the last one has aged pretty hard. My personal favorite is Legendia, thanks to the strong cast and character development.
