Childhood is glorifying Heroes 3.
Adulthood is when you realize Heroes 5 makes more sense.

godhood is realising that if heroes 5 was in 3d, it would be the game of the year of all years ever to come
so heroes thread then?
CAPITOL RUSHERS GET OUT
EARLY FIGHTING ONLY WAY TO PLAY
pretty sure adulthood is realizing that you only play homm's beyond 3 is because you know you will never be as good as russians and need to pretend you are playing a good game
I have no nostalgia for Heroes 3. I always played 2, so when I finally got to play 3, long after I played 4 & 5, I heavily disliked it.
I really tried it, I tried to like Heroes 3, but it never clicked. The music was meh compared to the others, I didn't like the interface and the godawful unit graphics style really pissed me off.
Yeah, nah. Fuck you and ubisoft.
Friendly reminder that HotA 1.5.0 is out.
who cares, I only want the SUCC
this background is so fucking good
i also liked that no 2ndary skills are bad in 2 compared to 3
Just wait for the Succession Wars mod.
Capitol > no Capitol you dirty hobgoblin
No love for Heroes?
ded series
>when a subjective opinion is objectively wrong
I've only played Heroes 3 since my friend introduced it to me a few years ago. I'd never have the willpower to switch to another game.

What are the best types of magic to have skills in in homm3?
You can't go wrong with mass haste or/andmass slow. Sure, there are better spells in different schools and higher levels, but if you can move first and cover the battlefield and your opponent can't, it gives you the edge.
Water is my personal favourite
mass prayer
From best to wurst:
Earth > Water > Wind > Fire
>fucking love homm
>level my heroes and try to get an army as grand as possible
>suddenly crushed all my enemies and have to start again
I know it's a stupid complain, but I could really use an endless dungeon mode/map where you could recruit for your army between floors and go on for ever
Maturity is realizing 4 was still a decent to nice game even with its glaring flaws.
never ever
what if I build creature dwellings during week one, and then focus on capitol after that?
You're lying. You won't be able to afford it. Stop lying.
That wouldn't really work, since the game starts breaking down once you start accumulating units into the 5 digits.
get units > stomp neutrals > get mines and treasure > build capitol
It's easy. Unless you're Tower.
king's bounty is the closest thing you want, its not really endless but the gameplay is hommlike with a large world to explore
Everyone always puts Earth at the top because of Slow but imo priority is either Water or Fire for Forgetfulness or Blind. Shooters will assrape you hard in late game sieges if you don't have either of these two spells.
The new terrain looks great, too bad the update doesn't come with new maps though
Actual adulthood is realizing that Eador has already surpassed HoMM games when it comes to both tactical and strategical depth and getting Eador Imperium.
It does though. Check the one called Before the Storm.
King's Bounty
Does it offer Hot Seat? This is important.
4 was really cool and creative, shame it was imbalanced and ugly as fuck. With a sequel that didn't discard everything 4 tried to do it could've been great.
HoMM 3 > KB: AP > KB: L > HoMM 5 > Eador > Disciples 2 > HoMM 4 > Disciples 3
I haven't played any other games of this type. Any good modern ones? Is Age of Wonders 3 any good?
>Disciples 2 that low
I'll fight you.
Anyway, Age of Wonders 3 is okay. Nothing really spectacular, but ok. Though the Age of Wonders series are more on the 4x side of things so it's not really similar to HoMM. Think of it like fantasy civ. If, however, you're into that kind of game I recommend Master of Magic.
Redpill me on KB: AP. I've only played the DOS version.
To be fair, if I was more subjective in my rating it would be top 3. Adore the art and the setting. Meanwhile the gameplay is just really shallow. It's the opposite of Eador where the gameplay is solid but I find it gets really repetitive and the atmosphere is boring and uninspired.
Age of Wonders 3 has some good ideas, but there's a lot of stuff missing. While it's cool that every leader type has unique units with their own race affecting them too, it ends up being largely homogenized save for a handful of abilities and stats. Dwarven succubi are largely the same as elven succubi.
If you want the best Age of Wonders experience, you should play Shadow Magic.
it's basically a just a modern king's bounty. Lots of units and each unit has multiple special abilities that you can plan around synergizing. Armored Princess is simply the best of the newest king's bounties and it's expansion crossworlds just improves it more.
It does do away with the very simple management that was present in the original king's bounty so you only really focus on your army and your character's skills/equipment
I just played a map where i got cloak of the undead king as necro. It's pretty well an auto-win imho.
Overworld map is not turn based, but a real time persistent RPG. You have quests and it's split into large regions. Combat is like HoMM and it's pretty damn solid, there are of course cheesy strats as always. The art is cartoony but it works really well unlike in HoMM 5. The writing is fun in a wacky sort of way - think Larian games.
Legend is the first game, it's great. AP is the sequel it's even better because of flight, more variety, and better balance between character classes for replayability. Crossworlds is the definitive version of AP. Forgot to mention but I also played KB:WotN, didn't like that one though and dropped it halfway. Way too much deja vu going through it while AP kept things relatively fresh.
I have a lot of nostalgia for 2 and 3, I hate to say it but 2 didn't age well just in terms of feel, if there was a way to make 2 play a bit more like 3 I'd probably go back to it more than I go back to 3.
>not building first 4 tiers and then rushing capitol
Choosing Necro is already auto-win
Earth >>>> Water > Air >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Fire
Fire's best spells don't require any specialization in Fire to use effectively which ruins it in terms of magic school specialization.
>Not rushing 5th tier and rushing the Capital
Looks like this asshole never played Stronghold!
>not rushing behemoths on the 4th day
Get a load of this gobljn
Is 5 actually good? I only see people talk about 3 but for whatever reason 5 is the one I have, never played anything HoMM
After the expansions and installing the 5.5 mod, it's is the second best HoMM experience you can get.
It's good, but it's more reminiscent of a tabletop wargame rather than your traditional Heroes. Get the standalone expansion Tribes of the East and the Heroes 5.5 mod.
How do you have the stone for that shit ever? but totally if you can...
...
Maybe he meant Heroes 3.

>they can't get upgraded tier 6s in the first week
Fortress master race reporting in and wishing I could say that with a straight face.
