Is Xenoblade Chronicles 2 the most underrated game of the decade?

>Fantastic characters, great depth to all the main cast and even complex villians

>Amazing battle system that requires tactical . thinking instead of twitch reflexes

>The greatest character designs in any JRPG.

It curb-stomps Persona 5, and I loved P5. I don't get the hate. The story is cliche, sure, but it's just a spin on the standard Hero's Journey and I actually fell in love with Pyra. When she was captured I didn't even leave my ouse for three days just so I could grind up to save her.

A game that can do that is GOTY material.

> When she was captured I didn't even leave my ouse for three days just so I could grind up to save her.

You had to grind to do that part?

>the greatest character designs
Holy fuck I don't think you're joking

Agreed from what I've seen so far. I wish I had a Switch just so I could play this game. After the shit taste that FF15 left in my mouth, I need something to save me.

I never played the first one. Would this be a good place to start or should I try to go back first?

Also, on a scale of 1 to weeb, how anime is this shit? and I mean bad anime, like Kingdom Hearts, not like Zelda.

On a scale of zelda to kingdom hearts, it's Neptunia

Sad thing is that it hits a lot of the same themes Nier Automata did but it goes further with them driving home the ideas and even exploring them to an extent I didn't think was there.

Yet the time to beat it and experience this takes a long time and people already said Automata was too long and that's not even half the time it takes to beat Xenoblade Chronicles 2

Its a shame

If KH is a 10 on a 1-10 scale

XC2 is probably a 6.5 or 7

If you're extremely intolerant of anime-esque stuff, you won't like it. If you can deal with a fair amount, you'll find other things to like a lot.

>Amazing battle system

Yeah standing near an enemy while your character autoslashes is so deep

It's horribly underrated, but you're also going completely crazy overselling it.

It's my personal GOTY but it has some considerable flaws.

I was used to fighting with her and had no WP or any kind of development on any other blades. I was forced to farm rare core crystals for 2 hours until I got Perun (is it just me or do her tits overreact to gravity).

Then I had to level up the arts for that blade. I was underleveled and my tank, Tora, had no upgrades for poppi, so that was another 4 hours playing Tiger! Tiger!, so yeah

Totally worth telling my boss I had a stomach flu so I could stay home to get her back

7 sounds about right, like says.

Nier has a "mature" style and is a lot more subtle in how it presents its philosophy and message, which is why people think it's "deeper",

Much hyperbole here, even though the game's my 2017 GOTY as well.

Who sucks more nigger dicks, Shulk the Twink or Pyra the cumslut?

Not really.
It's really good but if you average out all the people saying it's casualized waifushit, and all the people saying it's the best JRPG ever made, you get to it actual status as a very good JRPG in a year of good JRPGs, and a solid successor to XB1.

Not the best game ever made, just very good.
Would be better if it had better VA work for Rex and Nia but still good

It's an instant classic, to be sure

>Nier has a "mature" style and is a lot more subtle in how it presents its philosophy and message, which is why people think it's "deeper",
I hate this. It's the same feeling I get when people say ENG VO > JPN VO on account of English being more """"""subtle""""" and Japanese being """""over-acted""""

I don't think I saw any black guys in XB1, so Pyra by default

Only flaws I can think of are the field skills
They are awful

And stuff like Ursula quest, it's bad

It’s main quest is literally a bloated fetch quest when you hit mor ardain

Thank you! I fell in love with this game as soon as I played it. I don't even get those who say that it starts off slow for the first 5 hours or so, the story intrigued me from the start. And I'm over hundred hours in and I feel like I've really gone on a journey with a bunch of strangers who have become like family. And this is coming from someone who didn't care much for the original Xenoblade, this Xenoblade is just really neat and quite possibly my 2017 GOTY.

Do people really say that about either XC2 or Nier?

>the greatest character design in any JRPG
>amazing depth to the characters

Let’s not go that far user, gameplay is great but it’s literally battle shonen tier in terms of plot and characters. Also not sure why you fell in love with Pyra, she’s unbelievably bland. Like the extent of her character 90% of the scenes she’s present in is “I like Rex”

They literally paid the best Japanese game designers in the world to all pitch in and design the characters.

And the dude they got to design the female lead was a literal Hentai artist, but it works

Merc missions in general are trash, I hate having to waste so much time watching the animations then watching the charts fill up, don't know why you can't skip through them

It’s not underrated if it sold well and was critically received

Big titted submissive waifu
What more do you need

That doesn’t mean the character designs are good user. That actually makes it worse because there’s a large clash in styles. Like Nomura’s characters legitimately look out of place compared to the rest of them

Merc Missions rarely seemed worth it. I have to sit through five pages showing my affinites for blades I usually never use myself in combat.

The lack of jiggle physics on Pyra and Mythra is another big complaint for me, just for the sake of realism. Perun's tits bounce like beachballs and are half the size of Pyra's

Nice bait. This game is underwhelming

Because I’ve seen that exact same female character archtype played out 50 bazillion fucking times. Why does she even like Rex besides “muh Elysium” and because he’s nice? Come the fuck on you actually have to develop a relationship for it to be good

Weird. I've never had a problem with the designs clashing in the game. Sure art-styles are wildly different with the 2D art, but nothing ever stood out to me in the actual game itself to the point of being jarring.

Fuck whoever thought making 100 rice balls was an okay requirement for filling out her affinity chart.

Underrated? This game has been shilled non-stop here for months.

>Big titted submissive waifu
I LOVE staring at Pyras tit's and ass, but let's be real... does anyone think it is just totally out of character to dress like that? Her personality is just super docile and wholesome, but she's dressed like Las Vegas Hooker

...

I'm okay with her being in love with Rex but I'd have enjoyed it more if they got more cutscenes where they just talked, like the campfire scene or the bits after the Wulfric Monster fight where they're patching each other up
Just give them some time to spend with each other and get to know what each other thinks.

Beyond that, I thought Pyra was a real sweetheart and made sense as an alternate personality that Mithra would construct for company

The reason for it sort of made sense to me, given that she and Mithra are each one half of Pneuma and carry on half of their full form's outfit but there's also how her outfit compliments Rex's: both outfits have holes and the portions of each outfit they have fills in the wholes in each other

Opposite for me. She's too adorable that it's kind of hard to think of her lewdly. Seeing H-art/doujin stuff of her just feels jarring.

I hope it is ironic or something.
Game is pretty meh.
Disregarding story, characters and artstyle complaints : merc missions are pointless busy work, battle system is no deeper than a puddle, world building almost doesn't exist, locations are meh and lack verticality, sidequests are badly written, fieldchecks were a mistake, huge reliance on luck of getting right blades to make game actually a bit more fun.
Gameplay is just kinda meh, what can I say. It's okay at first, but then you see how shallow of a game that is.
Heavily disappointed. I expected better from Monolith.

Played XBC1, played XBCX. Liked X more.
I just started this. Will I enjoy it? Any advice?

If you liked XBCX more? Probably not. Just wait for XBCX2

>Will I enjoy it?
nah
>Any advice?
brace yourself to complete degradation of actual good gameplay mechanics you liked.

Expect more XBC1 than XBCX flavour, lots of anime, and a slow start. You don't get the full set of combat/gameplay tools until the end of Chapter 3, so exercise patience. Real tutorials carefully, especially for new mechanics not found in the last 2 games.

tutorials are shit at explaining. I figured out those battle mechanics when I got to actually make them not being locked out of them for fucking dozens of hours.

You'll enjoy it more than X just for the fact that collection points spew out several items at once and they all respawn when you quick travel instead of being randomly chosen.

I like the contrast

Did they ever fix portable mode?

I bet he can't wait gathering gomurice over and over again after waiting to field checks animations and gathering animations to complete.
exciting

Too bad they make you stand still
Even worse if field skills pop

>OP makes obvious shitpost mocking the people that liked XC2
>They actually think he's serious and agree with him

This thread didn't disappoint.

>ctrl+f minge
>0 results

Is this actually a XC2 thread or not?

this is by far the worst character in the entire game, everything about her feels off
her voice, the shitty end to her sidequest, her face
all terrible

Based on the gazillions threads that have come before, there are enough brainlets out there that can't figure things out on their own. The tutorials are still their best bet as a starting point.

Alright, you get to chose one real-life blade to bond with, it has to be Mythra or Pyra.

Who do you chose?

I pick Mythra. She seems more genuine. Pyra seems so pure and docile that it's like she's putting up a front. Mythra is more real and her dress has an amazing boob-window

>he uses English voices
I think you'll find the faggot thread on reddit

that doesn't make battle system any better.
It's flashy, it appears deep, but that's it. Maybe late game has it's own quirks, but I will not see them cause game is meh enough to hardly care for it 100%.
I think trying to level Zenobia and Agate sidequest were last straws. Fuck this game

More the kind I'd like to spend a life with.

That shit is acceptable considering they give you another full set of items for each successful check. You save more time like that than by reloading the area our walking to different points.

I haven't been able to find any rule 34 of Pyra... is there anything good out there?

Theyre both taller than me so I don't know kind of makes it weird either way.
But I like Homura's hair and how she's nice. My throat is nice but hot tempered

When a tutorial popped up I just closed it and looked up a youtube explanation instead. They did a shit job on explaining things like driver and blade combos, especially the chain attacks and the elemental ball burst thingamajig

>borderline unplayable trash gets praised by people with nothing else in the genre to play

So this is the Neptunia of the Switch. Got it.

>field skills pop
That was my only gribe with the game. The fact they appeared in the main story was so annoying.

it's maybe okay as jRPG but compared to previous titles it's just a waste of time honestly.
I had more fun with fucking mario for god sake. first time ever I actually had more fun with it instead of any RPG i've been playing

I'm kind of pissed, honestly.

It's good and the story is pretty great, but Rex has zero depth. This is especially jarring given that EVERYONE ELSE DOES.

Let's compare him to the old protagonist.

Shulk, beginning to end:
> Gee I sure would like to figure out the Monado
> Life is good though
> FUCK THE MECHON ARE BACK
> FUCK FIORA'S DEAD
> LET'S FUCK UP THE MECHON
Later:
> OH SHIT FUCKING UP THE MECHON INDISCRIMINATELY MIGHT BE A POOR MORAL CHOICE
> BETTER DEVELOP AS A CHARACTER
Even later:
> OH SHIT DEFENDING THE BIONIS INDISCRIMINATELY MIGHT BE A POOR MORAL CHOICE
> BETTER QUESTION MYSELF AND DEVELOP AS A CHARACTER

end.

Rex, meanwhile:
> gee, this life sure is good. A bit unfulfilling, but not bad at all.
> Oh shit I'm dead.
> Oh shit now I'm not, let's help this girl since she saved me.
> Gotta get to Elysium. Gotta protect Pyra. Gotta bond with Pyra.
Later:
> The bad guys wanna get to Elysium too?
> Eh fuck it
> Gotta get to Elysium. Gotta protect Pyra. Gotta bond with Pyra and Mythra.
Even later:
> I'm shit at helping Pyra and Mythra?
> Gotta get them back so I can bond with them and take them to Elysium

You get the picture.

I guess monolith took crying about "muh tutorials" in X seriously and decided to make complete handholded experience and they fucking suck at it so bad

This is the worst part of the game. He might even enjoy the game less because of it. Sprinting around and collecting items at 60 mph felt great in X, even if you were getting shitty items.

In 2, you first listen to Rex's loud voice line about how he's going to open a chest/collect items. Then you need to watch as the field checks are done. The Blade's concept art appears on screen, with no animation, almost as if it's expecting applause. Then there's the voice line. Note that the amount of time this takes depends on how long the character's fucking voice line is. You can fast-forward this, but even on fast-forward it's miserably slow. We're not done yet, though - the game will then pause for a few seconds for no reason other than to make you wait. Once it releases you, you're free to pick up your prize. Three common flowers.

This process, nearly step by step, also repeats in the Affinity Chart and in the Merc Missions menu. How the fuck did anyone designing, implementing, or testing this think it was okay?

I loved bumbling my way around trying to figure things out and researching on my own back in X. Too bad there were too many brainlets complaining.

> Finding leveling Zenobia unpleasant
You literally leave her unattended on a dumbass merc mission five times and then go out and kick the asses of a bunch of titans. It's not hard. It's actually a fun incentive to hunt down titans for some purpose other than completionism if you didn't happen across them the first time you were in an area.

Same, I doubt anything similar to X happen again. Exploring what you can do was the shit.
I hope at least there will be some port or something. I'll finally kill those fucking piglets

I killed them all already before getting her.
So I need to either
>go find every tomb in every location to summon them again using only your own memory cause lol who needs monstropedia and then check if their name is right
or
>look stuff up online to know the location, so constantly be distracted from the game
great game design.

>letting them complete auto attacks

Even a retard should be able to figure out that’s the wrong way to do

Jesus Christ, dude. I had her before I even unlocked merc missions and I've literally gone 90 common crystals plus like 30 rated without a unique- with, say, 20ish of 48 uniques unlocked.

My luck is shit and somehow yours is even worse, ggwp.

>field skill
>three flowers
Sounds like you don't know how shit works. Even from the worst draw points you get at least 2 items and another 2 from each check. Stack up three checks and you'll always get between 8 and 16 items.

I got her when I recently spent about 2 hours straight going thru rare and common cores with 5 boosters on each.
She was only rare blade I got.
tho I think I have majority of rares now aside of KosMos, cause fuck me
Still, their progression is fucking dumb in most cases.
>hey, go talk to 50 nopons!
There aren't even that many separate NPC Nopons in game.

pretty much all of this.
Xenoblade 2 is SPECIALIZES at wasting your time the most boring way it possibly can.

2 > X > 1, all are great

>When she was captured I didn't even leave my ouse for three days just so I could grind up to save her
Sounds like you're just a really autistic waifufag, which the game was pandering to.

aside of amount he is pretty much on point tho
not like that trash you pick up actually worth it aside of few sidequests and blade progress.

You can send them on merc missions to fulfill any affinity node that's not:
>do x amount of damage in one hit
>kill a specific UE
>heart to hearts
>quest stuff
Fulfill trust with pouch items to speed things up considerably.

You need some of that trash as well as salvaging trash for aux cores.

>aside of amount he is pretty much on point tho

No, not even close. Do you realize how much collectathon quests were in X and all the rare items spawns that you have to be in a certain location in the map to find? You can't be bother to factually make the comparison as to which one is actually faster.

This game literally saved my life IRL

I was suffering from alcoholism when pre-release artwork came out last summer, and I fell so deeply in love with Pyra that I decided to study computer engineering and programming so I can one day build a virtual version of her with advanced AI.

I so far have a buddy in Stanford joining me who teaches on the subject and we will make it a reality. Some day, everyone will have a virtual Pyra AI they can interact with via VR

>Too bad there were too many brainlets complaining

That's not the issue, it's the fact it breaks the fourth wall.

It will be like "Here's Malos, he's super strong, but we will make you invincible and fill up your party gage so try to get a good chain combo!"

I know. it doesn't make it less dumb
>pouch
oh can't wait to do tons of guess work and wait animation for each thing being put inside pouch
or again, look stuff online! Cause that's great game design right there.
amount needed for aux core is quite minimal aside of very specific ones. All my yellow items are roundly about 50 amount
I know perfectly how mundane that stuff was in X. But it was less mundane that this go from point gathering A to point gathering B and wait all animations then fast travel and do it again.
At least I could just run over shit at decent speed instead of walking.

...

>kick the asses of a bunch of titans. It's not hard.
It's the fact that if you get her late-game, you have to hunt down level 10-40 monsters you already beat. I love her, but I have refused to use her often because her affinity chart is pure tedium

Nia.

>guess work
Literally give them anything. It all raises trust. In fact, give them stuff they don't like because it's even faster.

I find it better when I can glance at her affinity chart and know for a fact what the holdup for a certain skill to grow is.

As opposed to
> What's this? Why is this skill not going up? I've had this blade out for a whi-
> KILL FOUR ENEMIES THAT DIDN'T AUTOMATICALLY AGGRO YOU FROM THREE TITANS AGO
> -of fucking course

I've heard it's decent, shame it's on a shit platform.

>Fantastic characters, great depth to all the main cast and even complex villians

LOL

Who are the best blades to have on the main characters?

I have most of my rares on Rex, and have 2 overdrive protocols. I have maybe half the rares, I have Zenobia, Perun, Boreas, Adenine, Kora, Nim, Percival, dahlia, the chick with huge guy armes that shoot fire, Finch, and I am sure I forgot a few, but I have quite a bit.

Who is best with who? Is there any blade actually better than Pyra or Mythra for Rex, except maybe Nia if you decide to be a healer?

okay, still it's means wait thru animation over and over again
even in Xenoblade Chronicles giving out trash as presents were fucking faster and more optiomal

X basically required having maps to get items because the game would just tell you it's somewhere on the continent. The game might also decide to just not spawn anyb of a rare item when you passed through all points in an area, so have fun combing the continent again. XC2 has this to a degree as well, but it's not nearly as cruel due to less points overall, rare items being considerably less rare, and getting multiple items at once.

Mythra is absurdly good, the only blade that comes close to dealing out damage is Zenobia or a properly equipped Poppi QTPi.

Switch, as a platform, is dogshit. I have no idea why a developer would make exclusives with Nintendo.

Nevertheless, it was a Switch exclusive so I wound up caving in and buying a Switch for XC2 and BotW.

Who the fuck even uses portable mode anyway? I always just hook it up to my TV. Only teenagers at sleepovers would use portable mode, and they should be doing more important things like trying to hook up with hot chicks

>great depth to all the main cast and even complex villians
I don't agree with this, I didn't think Rex or Pyra were all that great. Malos and Jin were cool, and Amalthus was decent but the other Torna members were really one note.

Look, I'm saying again that X was mundane, but that mundane part usually started after 200~ hours in or something when you go 100%
while in Xenolbade 2 that slog of gathering resources is forever with you and later cause of getting rare blades with needed field skills it becomes even slower in sense, sure you get more items but honestly I'm already sick of having blades popup every fucking time I do gathering or salvaging.
