Vive Pro

So is the resolution worth buying or should we hold out for 4k

i'm holding out until they have fleshlight integration

Has anyone speculated the price of it? $800?

I'm holding out until it has more worthwhile games.

It'll be higher than 4k next time, and the resolution is already high enough.

Problem now is that I'm poor.

What the fuck were they thinking with that design? Wearing a VR headset already makes you look like a fag, that shit looks like a toy

Probably around that, 700 if we're lucky.

>worth buying
If you have the money to burn on a pc that can run it you wont have to think about the price at all. You just buy it.

I dont think its high enough

I thought they already have that with cm3d2?

There are a couple of companies who've already done this. I can't vouch for quality, since I haven't tried any, but just googling fleshlight integration turns up a couple of options

it looks like something you see in a [mind break] [machine] doujin

I want to caress those pantyhose legs.

as the resolutions gets higher than means you'll need a proportionally more powerful pc to run it at a high fps so i don't really think itll ever be completely "worth" buying (headset + high-tier pc) for at least a decade. just buy it if you want it

It's not going to increase for a few years unless Oculus puts something out.

Processing requirements aren't only going up, shit like foveated rendering helps reduce the load. If you have a real gaming rig, you can run VR.

Nah they're doubling down the other direction. The standalone VR market

You never know. Either way, we probably won't see a new vive for quite a while.

Man FUCK standalone VR. Who wants that shit? it's trash.

If they can get it to current standards, it's an obvious improvement over being corded into a pc

you do not need more power with higher resolution. since low resolution has to use like 3x supersampling already to make stuff appear more crisp. putting higher res panels into it just removes the need for supersampling, and you just un the resolution natively.
and even if your pc cant run the native resolution, you still get the bonus of having less screen door effect and higher pixel fill rates

$900 for full set, $400 for HMD only

If only there was a VR headset which doesn't cost as much as a decent rig. Like seriously, who wants to drop 600+ bucks after spending 1k on his soon to be outdated covfefe pc?

Anyone try vr porn? At first that shit made me anxious because it looked so realistic, I can see people just nutting forever to vr and never dating a real girl.

They're trying to combat the "VR is overpriced" mentality, not realized a dumbed down VR experience is just going to sour peoples opinions

>If they can get it to current standards
Thats a mighty big if. They should be focusing on a good way to get it to transmit from the computer wirelessly, instead of shoving phone tech into a headset

Rift + Touch was $300 this summer, thats the cheapest its ever been

...

>They should be focusing on a good way to get it to transmit from the computer wirelessly

well, there is already the tpcast addon for the vive and rift, and the vive pro was announced to get a transmitter addon with intels wigig wireless transmitting technology, which is backwards compatible to the old vive as well

TPcast costs about as much as a headset, doesn't it?

he doesnt even wear it right.

300 buckaroos, but just because there is no alternative yet, when htc is releasing their own solution, they have to drop the price to stay competitive

Why can't Steam just tell you to calibrate the thing by sitting it on the floor? Trying to set a height for the headset results in shitty calibration where you're about 2 feet tall.

also, tpcast will have to lower their price since it is not able to support the vive pros higher resolution

wut

you calibrate the headset already by putting the controllers onto the floor when running the room setup

We're easily 10 years away from good standalone VR if that. It's not worth it to start trying now.

>Tfw have to upgrade CPU and GPU
Going to wait for GTX 1100 series and Ice lake before buying it.

>head phones built in
N T Y

>Hi-Res certificate headphone (removable)
>High impedance headphone support
Seem to be removable to me.

Just this month I downloaded over 300GB of Japanese VR porn, that's in addition to the 1.2TB of normal vr porn I already have. I barely play games, the worst thing is the vr video player is on steam so I can see exactly how many hours I've spent fapping to vr (and everyone on my friends list who knows what the program is can also see it)

Unfortunately they are not

Vive's shtick is that it's easy to mod, though, right? Is there a reason I couldn't just buy the latest Vive screen and stick it in an older model?

vive.com/eu/product/vive-pro/

new laser trackers, steam vr 2.0

etc etc etc, firmware different to accomodate higher res

did we even get a date for it?
my body is ready

From Verge:
>HTC will sell the Vive Pro headset standalone to existing customers this quarter. A full bundle, and pricing, will be available later.

so "soon", thanks!
rip wallet

imma have to wait for bundle, as i dont have any pre-existing gear

...

What's the best VR if I don't want any wand-waggling memes, but basically just want an advanced TrackIR?

Can you use VR with glasses or does it not make a difference with the screen that close?

Have you actually tried using the """""""memes""""""?

No, but I did play eyetoy games and wii at friends' houses back in 2006 or whatever

Then you have no idea what you're talking about. Actually test out the designed equipment before dismissing it out of hand.

Worste than Samsung VR & probably more expensive. How are you going to shill that?

Wait until the controller isn't two fucking buttons and can actually emulate a hand

Jokes aside, I know what I want from VR, and wand waggling is not included.

Why are you defensive about this? Are you a VR dev?

Current rift controller emulates thumb, forefinger, and the rest of your fingers as one thing

Yeah, and I spend most of my time working on games that have no controllers for practicality's sake. It's frustrating because the controllers work well, and people genuinely don't know what it's like until they've actually used them.

>earning 300 euros a month
kill me please

How is it worse when the specs are the same?

It's been 5 years since that trailer. January 10.

This

Early adopting is retarded.

>the eternal cry of the poorfag

But the porn is already here, and there's a ton of it.

>Rift controller
>Talking about vice
Your reading comprehension is abysmal dude

You think that is bad?
I earn $4 USD a day.

This one always gets me if no one buys it in the first place why would anyone work on it

Are you that friend of mine who privated his profile, even for friends? The only thing the guy seems to do his use that VR player.

>Blowing money on shitty waggle machine memes

I bet you bought a virtualboy too.

Why would I watch blurry ass 3D porn when I can get drunk and get a hooker for alot less?

inside out tracking

theverge.com/2018/1/9/16862618/lenovo-mirage-solo-google-daydream-vr-standalone-headset-pricing-release-announcement-ces-2018
>Google and Lenovo’s standalone VR headset will cost $449 and ship by mid-2018

>Implying it needs to exist

Because maybe you live in an area where getting a hooker is guaranteed to come along with at least an STD and also probably some niggers robbing you too.

What can I play on it, android games?

>Google/Lenovo

Prepare for ads out the ass and an annoying Google search bar in the center of your vision.

>Assumes that niggers exist everywhere

They do tho, they're just not always black.

where is that soldier pic who has lots of those binoculars or whatever

>One time payment for this every night
vs.
>Repeatedly paying for something you need to be drunk so you won't kill yourself after the experience

I'm pretty sure Google's been mostly focusing on the educational market. Google Expeditions is something I hear teachers talk about a lot.

that there is one of those generic phone case VR goggles, which is basically just a holder for ur phone.

>ARM VR headset
Its shit, we are talking about real VR headsets here.

I'm sure both scenarios will have you questioning your life choices before too long

haven't been stabbed by a pimp since switching to VR.

So I get that the current headsets are pretty decent for porn but what are some good video games

what new feature does this add?

>we've since confirmed that they are permanently attached

Bigger screen, even better tracking.
But a GTX 1060 and a simple Haswell I5 wont be enough for it anymore.

That there is vive's official page

journalist trying thing at CES =/= official source

Really? That's it? Charging a large premium just for that isn't looking good. In fact it should stay at the same price while adding all those features

Well the resolution is twice as big and we don't know the price yet.
But since its aimed at high end and enterprise users it might be expensive.

400$ for HMD only would be great. I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

Isn't the rift that price?

Even if you stay at the same resolution you should get less screendoor effect and a clearer image but you shouldn't upgrade if you already own a Vive.

Don't you have a bundle for 400$? With the sensor, and a xbox pad?

PERSONAL

Steam's tagging system so far makes it difficult to sort out the experiences versus the games.

Space Pirates And Zombies 2, for example, definitely video game and in VR is amazing. Space Trucker, I mean Elite Dangerous is pretty great. Really any game title that started out as game and added VR along the way is pretty good. These mostly tend to be stuff where you'll be sitting down and are more compatible with long game sessions.

Then there's the pure VR games which started out as VR games. A lot of these end up feeling like those arcade game lash-ups with skeeball, hoops or some such except you get things like Archery, Any on-rails gun arcade game, and what amount to 3d point and click adventures. There's still enough game there that they're not "experiences" but they're pretty casual. That can be a good thing tho since full room VR can be pretty exhaustive for the typical gamer.

Then there's experiences. These are generally non-interactive but differ from recorded video in that you can move around inside the environment to watch what's going on from different perspectives. Whereas recorded video will always have you placed wherever the camera is so moving around just moves the entire scene.

>sub 4k
>no eye tracking
why did they even bother?

Tobii Eyechip.
