Honestly the way the game incorporated the moons into its level designs was pretty great in general.

Just to point out something relatively obvious. While many of the moons may be not pose any real challenge to get to and be seemingly out in the open. They typically aren't just "out in the open".
Like if you walk around the stage clockwise once and leave it at that. You'd probably miss a ton of those "easy moons". But then if you walked around the stage counter-clockwise. They'd be right out in the open.

Basically. The moons encourage you to actually look at the worlds and view them from all angles. They may not be tough to get to. And they may not even be tough to find. But they sure do encourage players to explore properly and look at the world more thoroughly.
This will probably fly him by completely though and instead he'll rant about it for an hour or so about how they're completely worthless and somehow makes the entire game worse. Because somehow the moons that are actually tied to actual challenges are somehow shit now because of the easier moons. I have no idea but going by his past critiques he'll most likely say something stupid like that.

I kinda like how it is right now, there's no discimination and every objective is just as worth doing. This makes the game available for casuals who just wants to get enough moons to finish the story, and it doesn't matter for the completionists who are going to get all the moons anyways.
