Ok, guys, not joking. My first time through it, so what is the story? Why the baby? The woman in the bloodstained dress? Why I have been invited to Cainhurst? Jesus
the faggot retard nigger:
>op
nobody knows, keep on hunting
fear the old blood
Grant us eyes. Grant us eyes!
We are born of the blood, made men by the blood, undone by the blood.
>the bad
top hats, tricorns, and a general lack of fashion
The Souls games and Bloodborne don't really have stories, they have a vague motivations to start you off and then you just make shit up in your head to go with it. This isn't a joke, this is legitimately how the game's story works.
Its the whining thread again
The sky and the cosmos are one.
Do you hear our prayers?
Mergo is an infant Great One that was hosting the nightmare of Mensis, which was where Micolash, the head of the school of Mensis was attempting the Mensis Ritual which was a foolish attempt to rise to the level of a Great One (the same way Rom became a Great One and hid the paleblood moon).
The woman in the bloodstained dress is Queen Yharnam, queen of the Pthumerians, an ancient civilizations that have built the chalice dungeons, discovered the old blood and the Great Ones, then they went mysteriously extinct. It's theorized that Mergo was actually the child of the queen.
You weren't really invited to Cainhurst, you just happened to stumble upon the invitation which allowed you to go there. Once there, the vileblood queen thought hey, might as well ask him to join.
Essentially, the story is men discovering an eldritch truth they could not understand; one chose to respect its power, the other chose to covet it. Everything that happens afterwards is a clusterfuck power-tug that eventually draws Great Ones into the equation. The Moon Presence is the paleblood moon manifested, and it's inferred that its goal is the death of Mergo.
>You weren't really invited to Cainhurst
An old blood-stained summons, inviting an honored guest to the forsaken Castle Cainhurst. Rather bafflingly, it is addressed to you. Do not hesitate; the stagecoach leaves from Hemwick crossing.
great post, thanks.
Forgot about that. Could just be some kinda magic that shows your name on the summons. Or it could also be the vileblood queen sending invitations to all the foreigners in an attempt to strengthen her ranks.
My opinion is there should have just been more named hunter npcs at places.
And Hunters fighting hunters like Eileen and Henryk, even though some people disliked that part.
>not including vicar amelia in the good
Did you even play the game?
>generic dodge to the right as soon as you see the boss move and mash R1 boss fight
>just like bsb
>just like cleric
>just like one reborn
>just like amygdala
>just like moon presence
>just like laurence
>just like every beast CD boss
Yeah, you sure showed me.
Honestly, Vicar Amelia should be in the good tier. She was an amazing boss.
>or it could also be the vileblood queen sending invitations to all foreigners in an attempt to strengthen her ranks
That seems unlikely. She seems so defeated when you meet her after beating Logarius that I don't think she had any intention of every trying to revive the Vilebloods.
She would have been a good boss if there weren't 20 others like her in the same game
>good
>kos
Some say cosm.
>Why I have been invited to Cainhurst?
It's a Dracula reference, you uncultured swine.
>people still make BB threads
i swear this is the game of the generation
Play the game again, you can hear the Mensis Ritual going on early in the game if you go to the right places. The Mensis ritual was not attempted in the Nightmare of Mensis.
This is the worst of all 4 by a huge margin guns felt so out of place and awkward and the only different builds are str or dex
No way, you can go Bloodtinge for those 1-2 viable BT weapons, or Arcane for those 1-2 Arcane weapons.
...do you assume that the nightmare of mensis just started existing out of the blue when you killed the one reborn?
>bloodborne worse than dks2
>decide to make a arcane build
>start dumping stats in arcane as soon as the game starts since you cant reroll your characters
>first arcane weapon is 80% through the game
>do 50 damage to everything
>die in 2 hits
What did he mean by this?
>1-2 arcane weapons
Any weapon can be arcane.
put an arcane gem in your weapon to make it scale with arcane you fucking idiot. you can get your first after killing bsb
>What did he mean by this?
If you couldn't tell I was being sarcastic. The only good build in BB is Strength, because all the weapons for other builds are either garbage, found in end-game locations, or you have to kill an NPC and deny yourself quests to get them.
>guns felt so out of place and awkward
Guns exist because 90% of Dark Souls players got to the end of the game without ever learning to parry. It's high-risk high-reward, whereas blocking is zero-risk high-reward.
In Bloodborne it's only 2H axe shitters who never learn it. Being able to attempt to parry from a safe distance makes it easy to learn and instantly gratifying.
>the only different builds are str or dex
Unlike Dark Souls, where you have Str, Dex, and "I don't want to learn how to play the game so I'll backpedal and spam magic missile". Sometimes less variety is a good thing. TOH actually fucked this up imo by adding Bowblade and Blacksky Eye.
>first arcane weapon is 80% through the game
Get Saw Spear, kill Gascoigne with firebombs, kill BSB with flamethrower, get fire waning gem from lower Cathedral Ward brainsucker, get 2x fire radial gems from the first chalice. Before nightfall and you've got an arcane weapon that will carry you through the whole game.
Alternatively just grab the Tonitrus after killing Gascoigne and BSB. That thing doesn't need specialty gems to kill everything.
>bloodborne is worse than dks2
yeah it is. 1 and 2 had th most replay value by far
youll deny it though because it was made by a different jap which ruins the game for you :(
>less build variety is a good thing
the absolute state of you die hard ds3 and bloodborne fans lmao
>the drab environments
I understand that "muh aesthetics" is usually a bullshit excuse, but in this case, you truly don't understand the game's aesthetics
>2
>replay value
Why would I want to replay a garbage game?
>strength
>not skill
user pls
You're in the know, right?
Bloodborne absolutely had a story though? It was about Alfred and Willem, a student and teacher, who discovered the Great Ones and their blood and it led them to the idea of ascension, but they differed in their ideas of how to achieve it.
Everything that happens after that is the Church fighting against the plague of beasts that the Blood unleashed.
>The Moon Presence is the paleblood moon manifested, and it's inferred that its goal is the death of Mergo.
How is that inferred at all? None of that is right. The moon presence is a Great One just like the others and the only correlation between it and Mergo is the chords.
Bloodborne has backstory, and even then it's a vague mess of a story that you have to piece together. It has virtually no plot, a thin narrative, and no current story.
good post
>story isn't forced down your throat via 3 hour cutscenes
>there's no story!
>Bloodborne has backstory
Well, yeah because the game takes place AFTER all of that shit happened. It takes place after the Hunters were created, existed, and died out, after most everyone is dead, after the situation is already basically fucked.
You don't directly experience all of that because you're not incredibly important in the context of the world, outside the fact that someone chooses to make you a Hunter, and you happen to be the one to actually tie up all the dangling threads.
And you do have to piece it together, because that's the way all of the Souls games have decided to impart their world onto the player. They're games about worldbuilding, not a personal character arc. Your character doesn't have an arc, they don't have a prior story or a main goal. They're about building the world around you.
I don't know why you're implying that's somehow inherently less viable a storytelling method than just expositing a generic plot at you or having you make choices you don't want to make.
Fuck you, I'm a diehard DaS2 defender. That game has amazing build variety and it works because the melee combat is so stiff and weird that you actually want to spam arrows and spells to skip fights. But the melee combat in Bloodborne is glorious and any playstyle that doesn't indulge in it would be a waste, so they didn't include any (until the DLC fucked the balance up by adding BSE and Bowblade).
>autistic screeching floor sweeping beasts
>good
>Go looking for pale blood
>Random beast thing pops up after
>Just go hunt shit I don't know
10/10 GOAT
I know what the backstory is. It's structured in the same way as Dark Souls' stories are, just with even less primary plot elements and even more vague history that you have no part in.
Beastly idiot.
>Random fanboy insult because he knows what I said is irrefutably true.
meme reply for a meme post. kys yourself.
What you said amounts to "I'm a retard who can't read stories". So yes, it is irrefutable.
>the drab environments
BB had some of the greatest aesthetics ever in a game. What are you talking about?
But you didn't say anything. All you said was "It's structured like Dark Souls, and has a less obvious or more vague narrative".
Is that a criticism? An indictment? Something to be avoided? Something that makes the game bad? What is the point of mentioning it?
>When your favorite game's "plot" can be picked apart in two half-assed sentences by some jackass on a taiwanese chapstick forum and the only thing you can do is resort to base insults because you know it's true but your pride is too great to admit it.
Have a Trump reaction. You earned it.
Let me dumb this shit down for it, because it's gone over your head: It's structured like Dark Souls, but lacks any kind of plot or agency for both the player and the player character.
As i see ut the ritual of mensis debuted a while ago but was blocked by rom perpetually unable to complete that's why when you visit Rhagadabad'hul early you can hear them chanting the ritual but the place is empty. They are dead but still chanting, the ritual is about to complete forever and when you kill the blocker then it is let loose, thanks Razal'ghul.
>literally just says "you are invited"
M-me? :)
Baffling!
Why is your work done after killing the wet nurse and silencing the cry?
>mergo is the love child of queen yharnam and moon presence
Wolves hunt in packs, hunter.
