Is this worth picking up for $20 and playing before the servers go down next month? I've never played a Souls game in my life and don't really know what the internet accomplishes with them, but I figured it's kinda now-or-never for the "full experience"

>$20 for a decade old game
it's better than Dark Souls1, 2, and 3 but I wouldn't spend that much on it in 2018

Try it. I'd never played a souls game until a couple years ago. Picked up Demon's on a whim when I had an action-RPG itch to scratch and ended up loving it.

That being said, I think I got 1, maybe 2 coop opportunities and invasions each. Messages were plentiful and definitely added to the experience, though.

direct me to where the fuck I can find Demon's Souls for less than $20 because I'm not happy about it either

>never bothered to get the Monk's Head Collar
>desperately trying to get it now
>waiting for hours without a single invasion
>know that even if I get a fight, I probably won't be good enough to win

It’s like $7 at GameStop

Demon's Souls is the first Souls, so it's a bit rough to play properly. DaS is good to start of course, or if you have a PS4 just go blind into Bloodborne. That's what I did.

Even my cheap ass is fine with spending $20 on a well-crafted game like Demon's Souls. Even if it is rough around the edges.

suck my microscopic fucking needledick, user

I mean, yeah. It's how it is sometimes. I'm probably gonna pull the trigger though, just wanted to know what people thought

are there gonna be a lot of trophies that are going down with the ship

It's definitely worth it to play with the Servers still up, but it's not a necessity. The experience of online kind of already came and went but there might be a scheduled replay on leddit or something which will boost up the player count by a lot.

It's also worth it even when the servers go down because it's the best Souls series game.

There aren't any trophies that require online. However, there is one item you can only get with it.

Yeah, unless $20 is hard for you to handle, just drop it on Amazon and get yourself Demon's Souls.

Man, it's just sad when a game relies on online components and then one day it just ends, making the game permanently lack something that used to be there

so many 7th generation games have had this happen

so many games from the past are already COMPLETELY unplayable now

the game is perfectly playable without online.

It's enjoyable but some of its most exciting and defining aspects will be missing, making it incomplete. It's one my one complaint about all these souls games is that they put an expiration date on their timeless potential through their partial dependence on online play.

Don't get me wrong, I played Bloodborne completely offline and loved it because fuck paying to use my own internet but you can never rid of the sensation that the game is 'incomplete' without the online component.

wait, does the online in Bloodborne not work without PS+? I stopped paying for that shit 9 months ago

If you REALLY love the Souls games then I guess it's worth it. It's by far the worst one in my opinion, but it's worth a play through.

no it doesn't. DS3 too. It sucks.

I bet you think DaS2 is the best one too.

>that message when you start it up
It all suddenly became very real

Anyway, yes. The online dying isn't going to make much of a difference though, it's already dead as all fuck.

>now-or-never for the "full experience"
I'm sure people will recreate the servers in a couple years after RPCS3 takes off and gets networking support.

It's the most 'wholesome' one if that means anything to you. It's the most classically themed swords and sorcery style souls game without all the dark fantasy bullshit (don't mean that disparagingly to the others).

It also has the most clear and least convoluted lore other than Bloodborne especially since its lore was built around the original creation of the souls gamestyle while every other game since it has frankly contrived the story to fit the souls game mechanics retroactively, some better than others.

It is also the most clean and least gimmicky souls game with the distilled 'essence' of all souls games, since it is the originator of them. It's like Doom or vanilla ice cream. It's a good palette cleanser without any extemporaneous bullshit. If you want a no nonsense 'souls-like' then demon's souls is the quintessential souls game distilled. It's imperfect and all the more interesting for it. It also has the least boring swamp level which should count for something.
