What about Dark Souls 3?

my favorite in the series
mostly hated on Sup Forums

Its my favorite because its fun and the quality is more consistent then Dark Souls 1

it's agreed to be good I think

It's my favorite in the series. It has the cool setting of DaS1 and the improved AI from BB with the best boss fights in the series.

It's hated on Sup Forums for whatever reason, never understood why.

For me, there are no bad games in the Soulsborne series. Every game is at the very least decent and fun to play.

It's alright.
It's basically Dark Souls but a lot more polished, and in my opinion, the areas are a lot more imaginative.

Unless you care about Poise, in which case it's the single worst atrocity ever committed by humankind.

I'm it's the best. mix of DaS 1 and Bloodborne

I... I'm not alone

>Sup Forums generally agrees DaS 2 is bad
I thought the consensus was that only contrarians feel that way. And in regards to DaS3 only fans of Bloodborne consider it to be a good game, while those who didn't play it call it the worst game in the series.

Is the DLC worth getting? How many hours do they add?

the first is very short and not worth full price but definitely worth getting if it's discounted
the second is fucking dope
the first makes the second even better because of a reoccurring character

If you check Steam and metacritic, DaS2 has lower user score in both places.

>Sup Forums generally agrees DaS 2 is bad
That's where you're wrong, kiddo

There are 2 Dark Souls 2 in Steam which quite obviously split userbase. And metactitic never had any value behind its numbers.

Ashes of Ariandel is disappointing. The level is okay but it only has two bosses and one sucks. It think it's 4-6 hours.

The Ringed City is bonkers. I would definitely recommend it. Lots of fun levels and it has 4 tough bosses. I think it adds 8ish hours?

Here comes the faggot.

the first DLC blows dick IMO. Super boring map and lackluster bossfights and enemies

most BB fans hate ds3
PCfats love it though because its the latest souls game for them to play so they suck up the shitty game

Wrong.

DaS3 is great too

It's ok. I really liked the Slave Knight Gael fight.

Wrong.

That's because you all need to go back to plebbit with your normalfag opinions.

Mechanically, the game is great. However, it doesn't have the same mystique that Demon/Dark/and BB did when creating their own universe.

It felt like a BB/DS mod more than an actual stand alone game.

make that 2 faggots

Which Soulsborne game should I play if I've only ever played Demon's Souls. Don't say all of them, surely there's enough repetition in the series to where I can just play one or two more afterDemon's.

You're wrong.

>Here comes the faggot.
das1 and 3 and bb

Is bad.

DS3 is fun and has a lot of cool ideas that push the series forward but it's not enough of a quantum leap to make up for the fact it's the fifth game in the series and not noticeably different from the first. It especially feels like a step backwards from Bloodborne

Bloodborne is more like a sidestep than a step forward.

DaS1 is a hard play today considering its MMO-tier AI. I feel like DaS3 will age the best precisely due to it being the sort of end stage in the Soulsborne evolution.

Mechanically not bad, too much roll spamming and samey enemies, but it is actually fun to play unlike 2 for the most part
The world is pretty crap though, linear progression of grey and brown swamps and buildings that kills motivation for repeat playthroughs.
1 shit DLC and one decent one.

Overall, solid souls-like action game, not what I wanted from the ultimate successor to Dark Souls.

I don't know what it is. I want to just attribute it to burnout or something, but I only managed to get through one full playthrough of 3 with no desire to go again despite running through 1 and even 2 like 5 times each.

To me it seems like a game made for people who thought the bosses were the best part of the Souls games but I think that translated into "every fight is an intense duel, people loved Artorias right???" somewhere in development. By the end of the game I was just exhausted by it. It was an intense experience in that respect on a first go through, but it lacked the stuff that kept me coming back to the others so often and was ultimately very samey.

I don't like the shift in atmosphere from grimy, depressive, yet nostalgic, to epic with big orchestral booming. The first game defines itself at the very start in a way that sets it apart that I love just with this little tune youtube.com/watch?v=IMWTyxrBgRU
Maybe it wouldn't matter to me if it tried to be more different in its setting like DSII, but instead we get this weird progression from Lothran, to Drangleic, to Lothran with a newish coat of paint. Felt like a wasted opportunity to go somewhere new. I'm not a lorefag, but I think DS1 had the most self contained story and the characters you came across were simply more interesting. That goes into DS1 having the best world design. The interwoven nature of the areas helps a lot. DS3 is worse in that respect, and seems like it still has areas analogous to the worst, most unfinished areas of 1, which for their part still felt like part of the world. I see the stupid crab lake and get flashbacks to the lava lake full of dragon butts, for instance. The area underneath the lake is garbage, and the lake itself is godawful. A lot of it just didn't seem to mesh that well.

I attribute playing DSII through so much solely to the new setting and the wide weapon set and build variety.

>To me it seems like a game made for people who thought the bosses were the best part of the Souls games but I think that translated into "every fight is an intense duel, people loved Artorias right???" somewhere in development.
Shit, thanks. You convinced me to buy the game just now. I usually dislike the big bosses in the souls series because fucking hitbosses and camera getting fucked but i found the duels, like orphan of kosm, the funnest part

V still plays tf2 and unironically likes bloodborne and killing floor
Dont take anything posted here seriously at all

I miss the seamless transition from Press Start to the actual playing of the game in the first Dark Souls.

Honestly you could strip DS3 down to just a back to back boss only game and get the full experience out of it. I think there are more ways to add variety to boss fights besides choosing between some flailing huge beast with incomprehensible moves or a standard 1v1 duel. Something like Quelaag, Sif, Sinh, Darklurker. Demon's Souls was pretty good about using a variety of gimmicks to keep things fresh considering it came out first.

painfully average, it's not bad but not as good as it should have been

>I want to just attribute it to burnout
>unkindled ash

Hate Dark Souls 3, least favorite of the franchise.

Fucking horrible halfway point between Dark Souls and Bloodborne with too much of the latter and not enough of the former.
My favorite thing about Dark Souls was the insane variety of ways to play through it, both in terms of the path you take through the game and how you approach combat. Dark Souls 3 delivers none of that.

Played it more than any other in the series only because it’s extremely easy to just jump in and play and easier ways to skip the zones I fucking hate. Still not my favorite in the series though

>skip the zones I fucking hate
Farron Keep is the worst fucking area in the series and is mandatory though.

>worst area in the series

lmao

I honestly can't think of anything worse than it. Amazing how DaS3 has the most mandatory swamp segments in the series but no Rusted Iron Ring.

Dark Souls 3 is a great fucking video game
I can get it not being your favorite
But you gotta be a jaded fucking fag to hate the game

Dark Souls 3 is a great action game. It's an absolutely fucking terrible RPG. It has more in common with Ninja Gaiden than Dark Souls.

i like DS2. It's a game with many weak spots but it also improves most flawed parts of DS1. I put more time on 2 than 1, despite the lack of great bosses.

>I thought the consensus was that only contrarians feel that way.
It's contrarian to be right? DaS2 is lazy as fuck

Reasons i prefer Dark Souls over Dark Souls 3:

>More interconnected world design
Yes, some areas in Dark Souls 3 such as the Undead Settlement are somewhat interconnected, but what i really love is when you can go from zone to zone in a none linear way which is what Dark Souls 1 allowed you to do (at least for the most part)
>After the 5th time running through the same kinds of areas (a poisonous swamp, demonic ruins etc.) you just get kind of tired of it. Your first Dark Souls game will probably be your favorite for that reason. A lot of people who never played 1 and 2 and just jumped straight into 3, then went back to play 1 and 2 prefer Dark Souls 3.
>Overall level design
Dark Souls 1 had some complete shit levels too like Lost Izalith and the DLC Forest but for the most part it was just better, especially because of the verticality of said levels.
>Boss design
The trend where they just give bosses a moveset of a couple of "gotcha" moves that just have very delayed wind up and you just have to learn the timing for and dodge through entire combos wasn't a thing in Dark Souls 1, and i prefer the Dark Souls 1 approach which was more about positioning than mashing dodge.
>Better healing system
I will never understand why they ruined the perfect healing system that Dark Souls established by first adding those stupid stones in Dark Souls 2, then also making it so you start out with only few Estus Flasks, then by the end of the game you can just facetank and heal through everything. Dark Souls 3 does the same shit, except without the stones. And i don't think we even have to talk about Bloodborne which literally went back to Demon's Souls stupid grass system. Why on earth?
Dark Souls 1 flasks should have been capped at 10 though.

I think we can all agree that Dark Souls 3 has the best core gameplay though. Dark Souls combat has always been very simplistic, and weapon arts were a step in the right direction.

It's objectively the most superior in the series. It took the best parts from all the games and blended them together perfectly. Like the level design from DaS1, the gameplay from Bloodborne, and the deep lore of DaS2.

best in the series

>DS3 has been out for years now
>Has gone on sale multiple times
>But only the deluxe edition
>The season pass NEVER goes on sale by itself
>Can't even buy the season pass for cheap off some keysite
>People who bought the base game and not the season pass bullshit are literally being punished by refusing to pre-purchase shit by NEVER being allowed to get the season pass on sale

Fuck you I wanna play the DLC but i'm not spending fifty bucks for it.

Regardless of the rest of the game, I really enjoyed Majula. Best hub in the series imho

>then by the end of the game you can just facetank and heal through everything
That's pretty much DaS1 too, though. 99 humanity that heals your entire healthbar and makes you stronger, upgraded estus with 20 sips, that's more than enough to facetank everything. The only downside is that you need to grind.

my favorite as well. the grand archives has to be my favorite level in a souls game.

Literally took none of the good aspects of Dark Souls, which was playstyle and build variety.

There's no variety to how you play Dark Souls 3. It's always going to be roll through the boss's crazy anime attacks and wait for an opening.

No staying at a range and spamming magic. No hiding behind a shield all day and poking with a spear. No being able to tank over 12 hits because you're wearing the best armor in the game.

Just fucking mash R1 to straightsword.

Demon's Souls = Adventure game.
Dark Souls = Adventure game.
Dark Souls 2 = Adventure game.
Dark Souls 3 = Action game.

>"Ohh, look at me, I can iframe through a flurry of attacks with infinite stamina."
>"These mechanics are so much better, because in the previous games, I had to fight in close quarters, where my weapons would hit the walls if I wasn't care. Now there's so much space, I never have to worry about hitting anything but the enemy."
>"Oh man, look at that 12 hit combo I just did, spamming the R1 button. I'm a fucking legend. This game is amazing."

It's overrated mediocrity.

this, I just ended up pirating ringed city....it wasn't even that good, really left me on a bittersweet note

Ringed City is fucking terrible compared to Ashes of Ariandel.

Honestly I could have dealt with just Ariendel and Dreg Heap being one DLC like Artorias was, and Demon Prince being the last boss of it.

The Ringed City itself is such an unfun and boring level it hurts.

...

yes, I totally agree, grand archives has great atmosphere and design

>not liking ringed city

are people born without taste?

The level fucking sucks and Slave Knight Gael is a mediocre boss that feels too much like too many other bosses in the series.

This is still the worst cover of all the souls games. I couldn't believe this was official art when I saw it. Looked like a fan made mockup.

Eh, the bosses were good but some parts of the level could take improvement.

>knight giving a thumbs up
Honestly pretty fitting for how goofy the series is

If you disagree with this list you're objectively wrong

The game that made me realize that the formula is stale and it's time to move on. No hate just moving on.

Kinda like Pokemon when I stopped at black/white 1.

You just realize that a franchise/series hit it's peak

so people ARE born without taste

this

honestly I think you're the one without taste considering how you like one of the worst DLCs in the series.

Dark Souls 3 is the Circle of the Moon to Bloodborne's Symphony of the Night, yeah its similar to stuff to the classic stuff but its essence is far too different to say they are the same. Its not bad, its just like some people prefer classic design to the modern design.

>DaS is loved for the slow, conservative gameplay
>DaS II gets floaty combat, and Fist of the North Star movements
>DaS III is a copy pasted Bloodborne with delayed enemy attacks

Dark Souls is a bad trilogy, you may not like it, but it's the truth.

das1 should be below 3, but everything else also bumped down to accommodate. something like low, mid, high, god, elder god

i assure you, you're in the minority. Ringed City is beloved by many, far more than any of 2's dlc

All of the games are fun in their own right, but rating them from my favorite to least favorite would be
DaS=BB>DaS3>DaS2

>below
>not above
jesus christ can anyone have taste this shit? Who actually thinks Dark Souls 3 is better than the first game?

>For some reason
Contrarians and fags that can't form moderate opinions. It isn't perfect but neither is the first and it's hailed as being GOAT by some. At least 3 feels finished.

DO NOT RESPOND

NO CARROT POSTING IS ALLOWED IN SOULS THREADS ANYMORE

NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOUR OPINION

Nah nah.
Dark 3 is more streamlined than Dark Souls, but Dark Souls succeeds in other areas such as the combat, the lore and the atmosphere. It's often unfair to compare say Demon's to BB, but in this case I think Dark Souls' comparative primitiveness is made up for by the things it does very well that no game afterwards (in Souls at least) has managed to reproduce.

I think 3 is mechanically and technically better, but Dark is a better crafted world and story. So I think they even out to roughly the same place.

>Doesn't mention DeS.

Classic.
DaS 3 is bad.

3 is better than one, but only slightly. sorry you're dumb

And me, considering I suggested the new tier list

DS1 IS Dark Souls. Full stop. The gameplay is more polished in 3 but Dark Souls is better at everything else.
>inb4 hurr durr second half
Even with the second half DS1 > DS3. If you disagree you're wrong.

It's honestly better than dark souls and if you don't believe me, go play dark souls 1 again without nostalgia goggles.

Dark souls 1 has shit AI and every enemy can be strafed to the left and backstabbed from neutral. It's a really trash game filled with trash combat.

DaS3=BB>DaS2>DaS

Please name how the game where magic, heavy armor, and shields are completely worthless where the only way to fight is to roll through everything and mash R1 with a straightsword is better than the massive variety of viable ways you can play Dark Souls 1

jesus christ here we go

you mongs simply cannot help yourselves

>Dark souls 1 has shit AI and every enemy can be strafed to the left and backstabbed from neutral
it's almost like Dark Souls 1 is an action RPG and not some full retard halfway step between Ninja Gaiden and Bloodborne.

streamlined action was the worst thing to happen to Soulsborne.

>Please name how the game where magic, heavy armor, and shields are completely worthless
but that's wrong
>where the only way to fight is to roll through everything and mash R1 with a straightsword
not the only way, but the most effective- just like das1
and das3 has more build variety and 1

BB > DaS = DaS3 > DeS > drinking soy milk > DaS2

Calling it Soulsborne is the worst thing that happened to Souls

How does it make you feel, Sup Forums, knowing you will never play a game in the Souls series for the very first time? Even if they release another one, it's just not the same after your first one.

When I played DaS1 for the very first time, the world felt HUGE, everything was filled with mistery, the combat felt challenging and it all felt so immersive. After ages has pased, yesterday I booted up DaS1 once again. And when I arrived at Assylum demon, It was so easy that it had me question:"How could have it felt so challenging back in the day?" Because I clearly remember dying a couple of times before my first kill.

Just face it, Sup Forums, every new souls game is just not going to be the same and will always be held up to higher and higher standards, which will be impossible to keep up to.

>His opinion is DIFFERENT!!
sound the alarm. They're all astounding games but they improve upon themselves with each iteration.

DS2 > DS3 > BB > DS1 > DeS

Souls games are barely RPG's...

i dont care about his worthless opinion

it's carrot posting
