So let me get this straight

So let me get this straight.

>any DK related content Rare created is indisputably Nintendo's property
>any other franchises Rare created is indisputably Microsoft/Rare's property
>licensed titles Rare made are either owned by the licensee(Mickey's Speedway USA) or in legal limbo between multiple companies(Goldeneye 007)
>Diddy Kong Racing's characters apart from Banjo, Conker and Tiptup are most likely Nintendo's property with Tiptup maybe being in a grey area due to his Banjo-Kazooie cameo.
>Jetpac in Donkey Kong 64 was kept in the Wii U VC version presumably after a long discussion between Nintendo and Microsoft/Rare(since the original Wii never got this game)

Is there any hope these companies can ever resolve issues regarding the N64 version of Diddy Kong Racing and Goldeneye 007? Or are they just going to remain without ports forever? Apart from DKR DS that is, but I can't imagine many being content with that butchered mess.

I kind of wonder what will happen to rare if Sea of Thieves bombs.

Rare's been a zombie for years, doesn't matter much.

Goldeneye can still happen, as there was an attempt at a remake on XBLA:

I'm sure they could with Diddy Kong Racing, I just don't think Nintendo really has an interest in it. And the problem with Goldeneye is not between Nintendo and Microsoft, the problem is with MGM since they need their permission to release any James Bond games.

Activision, not MGM. They had the rights until 2013, which is funny enough seemingly when talks started up again.

Nintendo should make Donkey Kong Racing
Maybe Retro could do it, they have experience with racing games from MK7
There hasn't been a racing adventure game in forever
They could replace some characters with DK characters, like Funky and Cranky

I probably would have played the shit out of this. Apparently Climax also made offers to develop it after the Rare buyout but that obviously never came to fruition.

would happily play this

anyway i can get my mitts on this somehow?

If Rare didn't turn Pro-Am 64 into DKR there probably would have been plenty of ports already, but it would have been much less popular for sure.

Pretty sure it's undumped for now, they likely never got too far in development considering all the placeholders in that footage.

ahh hot damn, gonna fire up PJ64 and get to work then

There exists a 60fps/mouse hack if you want to play it in a new way.

What about Gnawty, he’s in DKC and Banjo Kazooie.

Of course theres hope because owners of IP can negotiate and agree to license their shit at any time

Such a waste.

There's something fucking wrong with the character renders for Diddy Kong Racing DS. I mean shit, this is what T.T. looked like in the original...

and this is what his render looks like for the DS version. He's got the eyes of a fucking psycho killer. It's horrifying.

That's a really shitty and generic design.

...

They got around it and that DS DKR.

I'm guessing Nintendo just can't be arsed when they have Mario Kart.

Even if they never intend to finish the old Donkey Kong Racing idea I would be content if they could implement more adventure mode-like features in a future MK game.

Current Rare is not even a shadow of old Rare. Like none of the people involved with those old titles are still working there, the less they have tied to them the better since they'll never do anything worthwhile with it.

This gets said a lot but there are still a few key Rare figures left at the company like Gregg Mayles.

"a few figures" left doesn't really mean shit, the company's dead man

Nintendo has had some licensing issues even with the DKC trilogy, they got delisted on the Wii VC back in 2012. Pretty sure they got relisted and released on Wii U VC though.

Not denying that but the cause of Rare's downfall is a bit more nuanced than just the buyout and Microsoft's involvement. Even during their N64 glory days they've had multiple key devs leave like Martin Hollis who was the director of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark and left during the latter's development.
