If it's copyright by him, it means he still owns the rights to the series and characters within. I'm sure that he has tried to find some company that would agree to a game on his terms.

I don't know the guy personally, but I'd imagine that he cares for his IP and is involved with development.

I liked Yume Nikki before it was cool.

Liking Yume Nikki isn't cool, though. It will probably never be cool, we all know the reason Yume Nikki never managed to be hugely popular like all the fanbases that were born after Yume Nikki was released by Kikiyama is because Yume Nikki simply isn't as good as fans(the ones who remain) pretend it is. Yume Nikki is a prime example of a niche game. I don't know what Kadokawa is planning, but they probably chose the wrong game series for it. If they are trying to make some sort of cash cow game or anything else then they will fail, Yume Nikki doesn't have widespread appeal and never will. If they are trying to make something for the remaining fans then they will still fail because there is but a few fans left at this point.

Pewdiepie never did any Yume Nikki video, though. You can search all you want and you won't find a single one. He only said once in his forum that Yume Nikki wasn't material for his kind of content, which means he couldn't find a way to turn it into his usual cringefest.

It never left its bubble, though. It was always pretty localized even at the peak of YN's popularity. Even Ao Oni and Corpse Party managed to spread, meanwhile Yume Nikki was basically self-contained.

They haven't, although some of them may have tried it. You're just mistaking some random autistic teenagers for millions of ecleb viewers, who will be much worse.
The worst case scenario is if the same "2deep4u" people from 5 Nights at Freddies decide to get into Yume Nikki. That's how it'll turn to shit if it does.

They're also the publishers of RPG Maker, the engine Yume Nikki is on and have their hands in everything from video games to anime, Kemono Friends is one of their more recent known series.

I usually hate open interpretation media but I think it worked pretty damn well for Yume Nikki. The fan stuff that stemmed from it wouldn't have existed if there was a defined explanation.
