With the announcement of the remaster of Dark Souls, I remembered that I had only ever played Dark Souls 1 and none of the others in the series. DS1 felt like the perfect 3D Symphony of the Night, and I decided that the sequels would probably fail as bad as the other Castlevania games that tried to copy SotN. But even that series had Aria of Sorrow, so now I ask you Sup Forums
Are any of the other souls games worth playing? Are they as good as the first?
Cooper Hill
>Are they as good as the first? People have vastly different opinions about this but in my opinion no. They are all still great and worth playing.
Christopher Howard
Demons souls is better though it is flawed in a technical standpoint
Cameron Kelly
>Dark Souls >First Its also not even the best souls game you retarded faggot. Are you baiting? I hope you are.
Easton Thompson
I only said first to make it easier to write, it would have been tedious to say "second" in reference to Dark Souls 1 Just because Demon Souls was first. I also never called it the best, I just said it was all I played and I liked it a lot
Evan Wood
They each have their good points and bad points, but I had fun with all of them. I also started with DS1.
Brayden Ward
Playing through dark souls 3 right now for the first time. Its alright so far, although I'm still super early into the game, the controls sometimes feel clunky but its not that bad. I found myself enjoying it much more once I turned off depth of field and motion blur. Although my computer isn't that great so it might have just been a performance/hardware issue.
This guy keeps fucking me up though, although its probably because Im terrible/havent played a DS game in like 5 years.
Joshua Lopez
Play Demon's Souls and Bloodborne. They are also great games
Blake Lee
Play BB and DeS for sure.
DkS2 was trash, and DkS3 was all over the place but at least it was better than 2.

Alright, here's another question. I hate buying DLC, I outright refuse to purchase anything not on the game disc, Bloodborne has a UK exclusive GOTY edition with all the DLC on it, does that lock my server to the UK and prevent me from playing with friends should i want to?
Levi Nguyen
they're all great and worth playing. are they all as good as dark souls 1? thats for you to decide, since everyone and their brother has a different opinion on the quality of the souls series.
Easton Howard
>does that lock my server to the UK and prevent me from playing with friends should i want to? Of course not, it's not a fucking North Korean edition or something
Gabriel Wilson
Personally I think DaS1 is the worst. All of the games are worth playing.
Noah Harris
I heard somewhere that this was the case for Prepare to Die Edition on PS3, which was jap and uk exclusive, so I got it on PC instead.
Joseph Garcia
what's your ranking for all of them?
Eli Perez
BB=DeS>DaS3=DaS2>DaS1 Honestly I have a different order like every time but DaS1 is always at the bottom and BB/DeS is always at the top. Even though DaS1 is the worst of the lot, it's still better than 99% of other games.
Alexander Harris
Dark Souls is the overall best in my opinion. Not technically of course, but it terms of design and style.
Demon's Souls is an unpolished gem. It's bolder than Dark Souls, which I like, but Dark Souls feels a bit more consistent.
Dark Souls 2 is just very mediocre, very unfinished and feels disconnected from the rest.
Dark Souls 3 is unapologetic fanservice and is technically superior to the rest. It's good but doesn't really add anything new.
Bloodborne is it's own thing and feels just as passionate and fresh as Dark Souls but some people say that it lacks variety.
I think they're all good in their own way, except for Dark Souls 2 which was just very forgettable.
Caleb Torres
>BB=DeS >DaS3 = DaS2
Leo Brown
Demon's Souls is widely regarded to be on a similar level to Dark Souls, aside from a few technical problems. Bloodborne is considered the best in the series by many newer fans. And Dark Souls 3 is worth playing, in my opinion. I personally like Demon's Souls, then Bloodborne, then DS1, then DS3, then DS2. DS2 kinda sucks.
Xavier Gomez
Dark Souls 1 and Demon's Souls are unfortunately the only good Souls games. It's telling that the prototypical Demon's Souls provides a better Dark Souls experience than the sequels meant to improve it.
Dark Souls 2 is stuck in a limbo of trying to have its own identity but also trying to safely stay a Dark Souls game, which doesn't work. Similarly, the chaos in its production has marred the overall project and not even the Scholar version could fix its problems like bad lighting and retarded hitboxes. THAT SAID it's still a decent game in its own right, it feels like a truly retro RPG (the N64 graphics being a factor in that) and the world feels massive, and so it serves as more a spiritual successor to King's Field. It's good but can be disappointing if you aren't warned beforehand.
Dark Souls 3 falls into the exact same trap as Dark Souls 2, and is a badly mangled combination of Dark Souls 1 and Bloodborne. The combat is no longer deliberate and thoughful, and the world design somehow ended up worse than Dark Souls 2. It's definitely more faithful to DS1 than DS2 is when it comes to its overall themes, but the gameplay suffers alot. It's still a good game and nicely polished, i'd recommend it, but again it fails to scratch that itch.
Bloodborne is a great game, it's based on Souls but its gameplay and thematics are squarely it's own unique thing. It's doing its own thing and that works because the game is not designed for anything other than what Bloodborne itself is trying to. The only complaint is the base game can feel a bit short, and the environment variety is lacking a bit more colour - The Old Hunters DLC basically solved most of the game's problems and ascend it to GotD level.
Honestly all the Souls games are good but if Dark Souls had a very specific feel that you liked, you may find the other games in the series unfortunately lack it.
I don't consider online PvP a particular factor cos most of these games will have sparse multiplayer at this point.
Thomas Cooper
After having platinumed Bloodborne in 10 days, having gone in blind and never having played a Souls game before, I didn't bother with the rest.
Subsequently I wouldn't recommend any of them unless you're a millennial and want to kid yourself into thinking you're a hardcore gamer.
Logan Rodriguez
posting this everywhere. so sad.
Ryder Myers
I'm not a millennial, and when i plated Dark Souls on my PC, I didn't find it inherently difficult. Sure I died quite a bit, but it just more like I pressed a wrong button or acted to brash rather than the game being too difficult.
What made me love Dark Souls was the exploration of the world and subtle story telling it had. I wasn't really a fan of the combat, but it serviceable enough(really I would love this team to make a first person adventure game that relied solely on puzzles and no combat at all, but that will ever happen.) Like I said in the first post, Dark Souls felt a lot like SotN if it were don in 3D and done well. It has the metroid style back tracking, with real time rpg combat. I loved that NPCs were all pretty random and you could never tell if they were hostile or not(in my first playthrough I freaked when I saw the guy who cures your sins and I killed him without knowing who he was) So if the others can make me feel that again, then I should be fine
Nathaniel Cook
I've only started on the series just recently, currently playing through DaSII. There are a few changes from DaS to DaSII I don't like, but I'm still really enjoying it personally.
