the combat is horrible, the rest of the gameplay feels janky. The setting is also crap, medieval europe was mostly a dull place, that's why you need fanastical elements.

I just wanted to start a thread about the game because I feel it doesn't get enough attention.
I played the beta and aside from the horrible gamebreaking bugs that were hopefully fixed it was really good.
The combat seemed a bit lacking though
Blocking and parrying is too easy. I beat the hardest dude you can train against on the 3rd try without too much struggle (I once stepped out of the arena and the other time he drove me into the corner).
On the other hand your combos rarely work because he they are so easily countered by blocking. Maybe I just suck at those though.
Multiple enemies are annoying because of the hassle with the lock-on and stunlock.
Hopefully they refined it a bit

i hope that this is be great. I just want something high budgety that does something different. Besides they seem to have forests that actually look like a forest. I sometimes wonder if most devs have ever been in a real life forest considering the crap that they make.

the lighting and animations are dogshit and it's full of terminally boring "immersion" make-work

I think the similarities begin and end with the ability to aim your strikes, but with 5 instead of 3 direction plus two stabs
Blocking is simply pressing one button, direction doesn't matter.
Combos unlock when you get better stats I think. They are something like top strike, left strike, stab, stab.

I pirated the beta a few days ago.
It crashed, had corrupted saves, missing audio, missing animations, buggy quests and more.
It was still fun, the atmosphere is great. Despite the sorry state the beta is in, they didn't update it but said most of the stuff is fixed, and the newer videos seem to prove that, I really can't wait for the game
