Gameplay is bad. You can't get the characters you want. Story is just okay at best. You have to endlessly grind to level up your characters. It's just a poor game over all that only works because it's Fate.

The mainline games are the Visual Novels and the Anime and Movies. Prisma Illya is a spin-off based on a popular loli character. The mobage is completely its own thing. All the Extra games are spin-off RPGs that you can play if you like the mainline games.

Just download and play the original VN. It's the only logical place to get started.

Start with Prism Ilya and the Ufotable animes. They only cover the Fate Zero prequel and the Unlimited Blade Works route of the main VN but a movie with the Heaven's Feel route is coming and the Fate route is trash anyway

There is but you'll forever be branded as a filthy secondary if you watch the animes before reading the VNs.
There is also a lot of things the animes leave out that the VNs talk about.

The VN has three routes. You have to do them in the correct order because finishing a route unlocks options that enable other routes. However, there are also lots of bad-ends, so it's not like you can just ride all the way to the end.

Every route in the game has been adapted to anime. They do however have events from every timeline mixed. A lot of things get skipped over in the adaptations, too.

I would HIGHLY recommend playing the VN. It's very long but also very enjoyable. You have character stat sheets and other stuff to follow in-game as well. Also, don't list to people like who tell you otherwise.

Story is alright if you like other nasuverse stuff, and has solid art assets, but isn't a very fun game and the gacha is hell.

Either one is fine. The porn is passable. The only thing you'll miss is the protagonist scene with Rin that spawned an old meme that nobody remembers anymore.
