That's pretty easy user c'mon. From the beginning of the movie everyone hates his guts. Misato and even people he doesn't even know hate him. Delicate as Shinji is you know that would affect him. As the movie goes on he wants them not to hate him and goes on that mission to fix the world because I'm guessing he thinks they'll stop hating him. Even as he's pulling the spears he says "Then Maybe Misato will"

You're missing the point entirely. Shinji doesn't know for sure whether or not having both spears will do anything - even Kaworu isn't certain. All he knows is that Kaworu thinks it can work, but he decides that even that sort of chance is worth taking if he can restore everything. As well, Shinji has a big discussion with Fuyutsuki about how the past can't be rewritten or undone, and it would defeat the point of that discussion if it was just a giant reset button.
