Subnautica anticipation thread.
Release date is January 23th.
Will they fuck it up?
Subnautica anticipation thread
Oh is the game finally leaving EA?
I haven't kept up in maybe a year but it was super fun.
What is that?
is it getting an update for release?
>let's make the game blurrier and call it an upgrade
They already fucked it up.
No Multiplayer
No Guns
Shitty ''''''''story'''''''' that no one wants to care about to boot
>underwater guns
fuck off
Harpoon gun you mongoloid.
It's on an alien planet in the future, fuck off
>acquire the game yesterday
>get thrown into the game
>have to scavenge underwater for bullshit for like an hour
>decide to quit playing
when does the basebuilding and deep sea exploration start
when you build the cool little sea explorer
pacifists ruin survival games
If you know anything about Natural Selection 2 post release you know they will fuck it up.
The only thing more pathetic than the creator getting on a soap box about muh guns are the fags complaining about no guns.
Every other early access survival game has weapons and is focused on killing shit, can't we have one that's a little different?
I'm not sure. I'm waiting to see how they deal with bases.
Right now, I appreciate that people want bases to be a safe haven, but you can literally become immortal and never have to leave your base again less than 20 minutes into the game if you just know where to go. The second you get water purifiers and farms to boot, that's it, there is no reason to ever leave the base save for doing the story/quest. They were talking a lot about creatures being drawn to your base, attacking, etc, but right now the base damage and flooding can only be caused by your own stupidity and nothing else.
I hope they fix that or at least make it less a permanent safezone. Or make it so you have to properly defend your base with lights or some shit in order to stop the reaper assholes from being cunts.
>23TH
yea you are fucking retarded
oh, the game is that casual about danger? i was interested in the game because i wanted to play a game about defending and maintaining a base against environmental hazards and enemies, but i guess it's not that kind of game.
any other games that are like subnautica but more about survival?
It's not an endless survival game, it has a plot and an actual roll credits ending. If you sit in your base eating your melons forever then why bother?
No it's definitely about survival, Subnautica is just super fucking weird when it comes to difficulty spikes.
If you play on normal, shit doesn't matter cause you respawn and so there is no danger, ever, fuck anyone who says otherwise. So you should play on Hardcore where a single death wipes your save. That being said, danger is all over the fucking place in terms of being actually 'dangerous'.
>can starve or die of thirst, but resources are plentiful enough provided you aren't a retard or find the farming blueprints fast enough
>can drown, but again not really a threat unless you are a retard
>can be mauled to death by enemy sharks of varying sizes, not terribly threatening but can give you a heart attack in real life. Only dangerous if you're wandering around without a sub or fast traveling scooter thing
>enemies that can teleport you out of your sub and fuck you up, annoying and terrifying
>giant fuckoffhuge enemies that can 1-shot eat and kill you if you're outside your sub for even a second lol
SJW soy devs.
Will pirate
Really? Finally. I've been preventing myself from playing the game for nearly 9 months now. This will be a great fresh start for me when it's officially out of EA.
>when does the basebuilding and deep sea exploration start
From minute one
last i played was just after adding the orbital cannon
have they improved the shitty stuttering yet? that shit really killed my drive to play, even though i managed to squeeze in like 30 hours of playtime
I'm going to see if I can rent a VR set for this.
I thought the no guns aspect was neat. It really made you feel vulnerable at the beginning of the game.
The point of the game is to explore and progress in the story, not sitting in your base and "win" cause you're surviving.
Bases are just for fun and decorative, their utility as storage gets quickly replaced by the cyclops which can get in big danger so I think it's fine.
Exploration immediately and the base building as soon as you decide to build one.
>story
Fuck, is this true? I played the earlier betas but didn't follow it recently.
I did most of the story a few months ago, it's more like an excuse to make the player go explore the real deep stuff honestly
It doesn't really matter
Thats 100% what it is. Thats what story in most exploration games are for. To make you explore.
(I remember it was kinda interesting too)
But yeah it's actually just pointers of places to go and when you do get there you get more lore about the alien world
I love videogames
Subnautica is wasted potential: the game
If the devs actually took their heads out their asses for a microsecond it would be GOAT, but instead they insist on platforming to deflect away from their shitty programming and work ethic.
Even if you take away the nogunz nonsense and the inability to make multiplayer then there's a host of performance and QoL things they could add that would drastically improve the game. Instead they're roadmapping about bleaching Subnautica white to bring attention to environmental issues in the great barrier reef.
It's magical for the first couple of hours, but once you start to peel back the superficial skin on it then its an ugly piece of ass that lacks complexity and depth.
You will pirate anyway because you are a poor fag.
Any guns yet? Won't play until then.
It has one gun, yes
The new assets and some of the new shaders are good though. Just turn off the blur options, they're all toggleable, eat up performance and look like absolute shit.
>fucks around for an hour
>decides to quit
>wants the basebuilding and exploration to start but fails to realise it's all available from the very beginning anyway
user..
Will the performance be improved?
I played it a while ago, but the performance was quite bad, especially when when traveling in a straight line, with random lag spikes.
No and never
Doubt it. The game just doesn't seem to handle streaming in the environment that well and has those spikes constantly. They put out a patch recently that seems to have fixed the memory leak issue, I've played long hours without framerate permanently dropping and requiring a restart so there's that at least.
...
>a green frog is a hate symbol
It's funny what the internet has turned people into these days.
Nah, the game is smooth and stable as fuck right now.
The last couple of big patches have increased the performance DRAMATICALLY.
Will my trusty phenom II 1090T and HD5850 be able to handle this one?
Still have to try it out. I really hope for the best.
