Why do they do this?

Why do they do this?

>still no controller with the X in the right side

xbox ABXY layout makes the most sense because Y is on the Y plane and X is on the X plane.

Why did you make this thread?

Nintendo did it first. It was this way on the SNES.

Sony did it 2nd, but I dunno what other simple symbol they could've used? Maybe just a line?

Xbox did it last, even using the same symbols/colours as the SNES, because they're mouth breathing murritards

?

>game tells me "press X to open door"
>press giant X button in middle of controller
>brings up the home screen

WWWOOOOOOWWWWWW

Controller patents.

PATENT

It's that way because of patent laws.

In case of Sony it marked the buttons with how many lines you need to draw them, hence a lot of early japanese games using circle as the main button, cause it's the number 1 button (circle needs one line)

So that X is the number 2 button, triangle is 3 and square is 4

Why they did number them in such insane ways is beyone me.

Nice Sup Forumseddit thread. 10/10

it's also where the SNES has it's A button, considering the PSX started as SNES-CD

They also keep switching A and B, it's really annoying

blame microsoft for copying the button names but just switching their place

What's the problem? Don't tell me you get confused when a game asks you to press the x button.

>Nintendo always had the A on the outside and B on the inside so obviously it would have X on the outside and Y on the inside to match.
>Microsoft copied the Dreamcast layout which was the reverse of Nintendo's with A on the inside and B on the outside.
>Sony's is actually Cross to go along with the shapes motif with Circle meaning yes, Cross meaning no, Triangle meaning camera or POV, and Square meaning menu.

>Comparing a cross to two X's

>xbox ABXY layout makes the most sense because Y is on the Y plane and X is on the X plane.

...what?

Numbers > Letters > Symbols

Y is on Y axis, X is on X axis.

One is a cross, the others are letters. For fuck's sake this isn't rocket science
