Comfy Minecraft Thread

I played industrial mods like crazy a bunch of years ago but haven't looked at it since. What mods is this stuff coming from?

It is 2018 and ratboy genius is still making videos. I just can not look at minecraft anymore without being reminded that he exists.

I see Immersive Engineering, Thermal Expansion, Extra Utilities

>minecraft

Which one are those sexy ass conveyors coming from?

Immersive Engineering

How is minecraft not comfy?

Why are mods that make everything automatic so popular? It makes the goal of the game to make the game plays itself, what's the point?

How is that not a legitimate goal, especially when the standard game goal is just "finish the game?"
I'm not seeing your logic, it's a way to "finish" a game that's actually tangible instead of being an arbitrary goal and doing all the engineering required to get there is a lot of fun

You can also take it as autistically far if you want and it creates a lot of depth potential, see Factorio

It's not about getting resources, it's about creating efficient setups. It's not easy and fun in it's own way. In this sense it focuses much more on what Minecraft was truly about: creativity and building over resource management and exploration. Granted there are plenty of mods that focus on the latter too, as well as modpacks which will sorta force you to explore and manage first before you will get a chance of tinkering with the automation setups.

The mod makes the game a lot more complex. Automation is needed because it takes several steps to smelt ores now. In the base game you just throw them into a forge. So the game doesn't play itself, there is just an added step of having to build up industry.

Which particular pack are you talking about? I want to get back into this stuff

>tfw no comfy towny economy server

economy servers inevitably become garbage every time

Get any progression based modpack: Age of Engineering. Gregtech. Regrowth, Infinity Evolved expert mode etcc. They usually feature a relatively strict progression, which won't let you setup efficient systems within 2 hours of starting a world.

Are there any Immersive Engineering based modpacks? I really love Immersive Engineering but all modpacks inevitably have it outclassed by some high tech garbage
Or at least something with cool, practical multiblock machines

>Gregtech
No thanks

I have never understood the point of these mods. Why not play factorio if you want this stuff? Minecraft is about mining and building comfy houses in cool spots.

New Horizons is one of the most insane autism simulators around. It will make you bleed from your asshole just to build some mundane shit.

Any good magic mods? I want to be the ultimate mage/wizard.

>tfw suck at automation and just end up with a bunch of isolated machines while carrying stuff from one to the next automatically

What's your favorite mod, Sup Forums?

>minecraft is about what I say it is
apparently not
especially since the introduction of redstone.

Because you can't "build" anything custom in factorio, you just put down premade structures.

Recommend me a good pack with this, something not too bloated
I normally go for Tekkit but it looks like it doesn't have it

As someone who enjoys factorio and regularly does Angel's runs: Factorio is relatively strict when you know what you're doing, it's all about expanding your base and setup over trying to find new solutions and combinations. Minecraft is not as expansive and you won't be able to make a megabase-tier structures out of mods, but there is much more customize-ability with how different mods interact with each other.

I'd say Thaumcraft but I'm sure someone is going to come and complain about it for one reason or another. Though it is less about being a spellcasting wizard and more about being an enchanter of mystical items

Thaumcraft is a mod like no other, though it's on a relatively old version of the game. Most 1.7.10 modpacks have it. Other stuff to check out: Botania, Blood Magic, Astral Sorcery, Witchery.

Because the combination of those two things has its own appeal.
I can't build a multi-floor factory and tuck all the machinery behind the walls and in the basement in Factorio

ARSE magica

redstone serves in making comfy homes though. Yes you can use it to make a functioning calculator but its primary use making automatic doors and lights and shit. I once made a combination lock for my front door but anything more than that, why do it in minecraft and not another game or program?

Because it's fun you autist

how is it fun to do the same thing in a more contrived way though? No need to get mad, I just don't get it.

Working around limitations is fun. Literally the same reason why video games are fun.

>how is it fun to do the same thing in a more contrived way though
It's about giving yourself restrictions
It's the most video game thing there is

You've been explained this already, you don't understand because you have no experience nor desire to understand. It's like asking why play Rimworld over Dwarf Fortress, another stupid ass question: those are not the same games. They same similar gameplay mechanics, but Rimworld is about survival and small colony micro-management and DW is about creativity and actual feeling of being a mayor of dwarven town. Same shit here, the gameplay systems are only similar on a glance, the whole fucking process is completely different.

Finally came back last summer and played through all of the vanilla content I missed out on over the years on some random /r9k/ server, spent dozens of hours setting up villager breeding for the best enchantments, iron farms, all of that nonsense. I had a lot of fun with it and now after a little break I sort of want to properly try those full autism industrial mods but can't find a small comfy server for it. I don't like playing the game alone much, it's too depressing.

bump

What is the cosiest biome to build in and why is it Extreme Hills?

>actual non-entity wires you just connect stuff with instead of literal 3 foot thick cables
What mod and what is it compatible with?
I might actually start playing this again

I loved the feeling of going from punching trees to nuclear powered strip mining. I was disappointed when the vanilla game took a turn for magic instead of technology.

Immersive Engineering

It's because it reminds you of early versions of the game

Can I power other mods' machines with it?

Yeah, it's just a different method of power transmission
Basically all mods that have power systems can be interchanged somehow
Immersive Engineering is the best mod

Are there any cool new mods?

What texture packs do you use, Sup Forums?

>texture packs

>watch ratboy
>think it's just some fucking middle schoolers pet project
>do some research on it
>the man behind it has a PHD in music theory and composition
>he uses minecraft because its easier then just 3d modeling a background or drawing it
>his series actually has really fucking deep lore

I never expected this to go anywhere, but i'm glad its going somewhere

What the point of having tech in minecraft its not like even factorio has more interesting combat while in minecraft you just need a door and a two block high obstacle or a bed.

I don't understand why you think combat and tech are related

In minecraft you don't need a base to fight the mobs. Tech just mean autistic automation. In factorio you need automated defence in minecraft its a waste of time.

Factorio was the culmination of that sort of gameplay, though not first person. I can see the enjoyment, continual automation to build even larger factories, even though it pretty much just is a portal to creative.

I've been playing Thaumcraft 4 lately, I skipped 3 because I didn't really like it after 2, but I'm starting to get bored before I really get towards building all the necessary stuff for thaumaturgary. It's ok once I get going, but I keep running out of basic material like cobblestone and wood and don't feel like farming the basics, and if I switch to creative to build a few structures to house that stuff, I pretty much drain any interest I have in continuing. I need to find a fresh multiplayer server for it.

TF was pretty neat, especially as a singular mod to vanilla. I feel like all the items it adds aren't out of place in the original game, and the generated dungeons add some minor goals to accomplish over finding a nether fortress -> finding a stronghold -> clearing the end dragon.

I have trouble finding a sort of "ancient structures" mod or similar, the was one that showed promise that added in towers, dungeons, etc to the overworld, but their internal structure is nearly identical in the way they generate corridors.

With the right mods, you need a base and automation in order to expand beyond the overworld. You start small, master skeleton-punching, and then gradually progress up the tech chain with better weapons and armour; mobility aids like running speed, negated fall damage, and flight; better tools; better industrial production; etc.

>In minecraft you don't need a base to fight the mobs. Tech just mean autistic automation. In factorio you need automated defence in minecraft its a waste of time.
Nothing you do in Factorio other than turrets and walls is defense, and that's a microscopic portion of the game.
I'm not seeing your logic

In factorio you wont be able to defend yourself.

If it had had good combat and proper devtools it would have been wRPG maker.
If it had had good generation and AI it would have been dorf fortress 3d

It had nothing. Only mods, maps and broken dreams. Even Notch's

Kys

So? What does that have to do with the fact that in their game is the core production and machinery and progression have nothing to do with enemies and that isn't the core focus of the game? What's your point?

That's the wrong question
Why not make it in minecraft is the true question

>ARSE
is that something like magicka's magic casting gimmick?

I don't know why they never tried to implement this in vanilla Minecraft. The tech to display them is already there because of fishing rods and leads. Everyone's got their heads too far up their asses with redstone, I guess.

>people are still autistic about modpacks
