Why is the coloration of BotW so fucking bad? I don't understand why they had to have this ugly white film over everything. Was it because of system limitations, or some bizarre design choice?

The first image looks better
Sorry you are an eyelet with shit taste, the white only enhances the visuals
>post apocalyptic wasteland should look colorful
nigga wut?
Because you're expected to be playing the game over long periods of time and higher contrast leads to more eye strain
Right looks oversaturated.
Underpowered Hardware incapable of properly rendering a full color palette or graphics for that matter. Nintendo shit themselves in the foot
Am I the only one that thinks this is the most beautiful looking game out today?
>what is splatoon2
No, this board is full of retards.
>game wants to appear desolate and apocalyptic
>OP sees cel-shaded graphics and assumes it needs to be vibrant, cartoony and rich
brainlet
>liking washed out colors with no contrast and too much brightness
It looks like a garbage laptop screen honestly
I don't understand your point. When I play BotW on my switch it often hurts my eyes because its so fucking bright
It's to reduce burn in on the Switch's awful screen.
Just because its post apocalyptic doesnt mean it should have an unnatural ugly white filter over everything
>wasteland
I'm assuming you don't go outside much or don't pay attention to what it looks like outside.
real life isn't saturation +65 and contrast +33 sometimes it's washed out and no contrast and a little too bright.
turn your screen brightness down you fucking retard and don't play in the dark.
No idea. I notice this in a lost of games. They have a haze to them or almost a color filter in some cases like Oblivion had a hue to everything like someone fucked with tint on an old TV.
The other one i see is the fuzziness you see in some games. Good examples being the console version of the old version Battlefront 2, Killzone, or on Diablo 3.
I'm fairly sure they are there to distract from lower res textures.
can someone explain, does the switch brightness always stay the same when docked? it doesnt allow you to change it when its docked...do you have to undock it, change the brightness, then dock it again? or does the brightness always go to default when docked?
The brightness setting is for the screen built into the Switch. If you want to change the screen brightness in docked mode, you want to look at your television's settings.
When can we admit that the game is only "post apocalyptic" because they had to make an excuse for such an empty fucking world? This world could easily pass for non apocalyptic if it had a little more shit in it. Most of this world honestly seems pretty unaffected and lush.
Sorry I'm still confused...Lets say its undocked, and you set the brightness. Will this be the brightness when its docked? Or is that totally irrelevant? Sorry Im kinda drunk. I dont get it
>burn in on LCD screens
Nigga what?
user already told you. When you set the brightness, you are only setting it for the screen that is ON the Switch. It has no effect on the brightness of your TV.
>muh artistic vision
.....Why not? Does suffering a calamtiy inherently mean it cant be colorful especially with so much grasslands and vegetation?
THank you user, i feel better now....
It absolutely should
>Was it because of system limitations, or some bizarre design choice?
it's a design choice
Maybe its to hide the texture quality somewhat
glad to know I wasn't the only one bothered by this
...
>real life isn't saturation +65 and contrast +33 sometimes it's washed out and no contrast and a little too bright.
What a garbage cop-out for not understanding basic visual design. Might as well make it so you can't see shit after stepping outside a cave.
they were going for that cinematic feel
it's just your TV, looks fine on mine
>Asking a real question is crying about the games success
I love the game but I agree with him. I like more color in my games.
what the fuck are these blurry pixels on my screen? dead pixels?
But it's a video game. Not real life.
Nintendo games are always limited by the system. Seems like at least once they would try to make a console that can keep up with everyone else. But I guess when the only 2 games that sell your console are stylized like cartoons, you don't really need much processing power.
That being said, all the zelda games look great for what they are, and are some of my favorite games. Same with Mario. But I think a zelda title with say, Horizon Zero Dawn, or MGSV visuals would be pretty sweet.
Both. The game is very foggy so they tuned the colors around it.
looks like dead pixels user.
hard to say, it'd be rare for there to be that many dead pixels, usually it's like one or two
I'd say it's some dust or something
They'd be stuck pixels if anything. Dead pixels are always black (y'know, because they're fucking dead). Never seen that many on any panel before though.
I love contrast and vivid colours but the images on the right look like shit. If you want more colour, you can bump up the contrast and saturation on your TV and that will be more than enough to fix the problem.
I don't disagree with you but I hope you're not suggesting that the darks on the images on the right are good visual design.
Because the hardware it is in can barely run it as it is so they have to "fog up" everything so it can keep a descent frame rate.
Switch is a very weak system. It has trouble displaying many colors at once. Even the Vita didn't have this problem.
Fucking instagram faggots
Nintendo has a fetish for making their games look like bland shit. Pokemon got hit harder than BOTW did.
Considering normal temperature and pressure with existing fauna
>A couple of years after the apocalypse
Yes, brown is good
>One hundred years or more without any human activity and barely natural disasters
It must be colorful as fuck
Other games on the system don't have this problem.
>supposed to be a post apocalyptic world
>literally the most populated a zelda game has ever been
Outdoors and nature is full of rich colors and beauty as far as I can tell, I don't walk around with a white veneer over my vision
Twilight Princess has it beat I think, speaking in terms of NPCs-to-world ratio.
this is one of my biggest gripes with this game and i'm glad someone made a thread for it.
what the fuck is up with that beard
That's Game Freak fucking up the colors of every gen 5 and before Pokemon for the 3D games because watercolor art bullshit. The gen 6 and 7 Pokemon colors look fine because they couldn't even be consistent about it.
More like my old ass likes to see the game.
Animated grass and particles are great and all but if I can't tell whats going on in some games due to the clusterfuck its a problem. Granted Zelda isn't the case here, but some games do this.
Castlevania was full or orange and had no problem with it.
LCDs get burn in all the time, and it gets worse as they age. I have an old 720p TV and 900p monitor that start showing burn in after about 10 minutes of use.
That said, Zelda's lack of contrast has nothing to do with burn in since most of the image is constantly changing during gameplay. If anything those pure black and white loading screens are what will cause issues.
My monitors are about 7 years old and used daily with no problem. I do turn them off at night maybe thats why?
They started to fuck up the colors during Gen 5, actually.
>complains about color
>uses a histogram
How fucking retarded are you OP.
Splatoon 2 and 1 are made for rapidfire matches
Ssshhhhh, he'll find out for himself one day user, but it doesn't seem like today is that day.
Please shut the fuck up.
I love BotW but the washed out colours is inexcusable, and what makes it even more frustrating is the fact that it could have easily been fixed with a little saturation overlay just slapped on.
>Never seen that many on any panel before though.
>Never seen that many on any panel before though.
Damn i usually have way more. hold on ill take a pic. you wont believe it...
>The first image looks better
Go home, Nintendo.
Nintendo's Bullshit.
youtu.be
Check your cables. I have an old HDMI cable that creates artifacts like that on screen.
The time of day changes the lighting in BotW more so than any other game I've playerd. Sometimes its fucking great to look at and then you have the mornings where literally everything is in a whitewashed haze.
Its odd
I vastly prefer standard ass looking BOTW to any sort of shading or lighting changes I've seen or whatever the fuck.
The days of brown and bloom have ruined us and now we think more color is just full stop always better. BOTW's aesthetics achieve their goal looking like they do and I dont see how neon green grass is supposed to improve on what is a great artstyle already.
...
>what is splatoon2
Definitely not a game with a varied game pallet.
You got green, purple, grey, and shades in between. That's it.
Wtf i hate Zelda now
>Doesn't know about wrgb histograms
lol, ok.
That said, I don't give a shit.
It's the fucking aesthetic. It's supposed to look almost like a watercolour. No, extreme contrast and saturation/gamma isn't what you always want.
Splatoon is a hell of a lot more colorful than BotW is. Not to mention there's something like 12 ink colors.
>turns out streamers and video creators are just idiots that cant even learn what simple color range is
Leave it to faggots to never even check what settings there are let alone what they might do.
>what the fuck are these blurry pixels on my screen? dead pixels?
That's the "my graphics card is literally melting" failure.
actually, it reminds me most of playing on an old plasma tv
...
the final game came pretty close
its high gamma, literally just for portablefags
>night
>still as bright as during the day
>Slaps a gray filter on a game
>"It's supposed to change the atmosphere and enhance it!"
Use. Fucking. Lighting.
Seriously. BotW does it very lightly, which is alright, not a big problem. I would prefer the 2nd picture all the way, still, but it's not bad.
But other games who toss the filters around like Nu-DeusEx, Fallout3/NV, and any Modern War game like BF or CoD show how bad the filter can be, going as far as to worsen the experience.
I prefer right side and it's my only legit complaint about the game, other than that I wish there were more runes and like 1 extra dungeon. Still a 9.5/10.
WEw, you are a fucking moron
That's not how hardware works retard.
Maybe you should just fix your shit
On PC, mods can easily fix this kind of issues
>inb4 "letting community fix the mistakes of devs"
This kind of fairly niche alterations are something that mods are excellent for. And Why the fuck would a gamer complain if they have a chance to play a superior version of the game they can tailor to their own personal desires?
its not a filter, it is high gamma levels so portable fags can see the screen in daylight. unless gamma is a filter, but it isnt like fallout 3 with its tinting
Lmao the brainlets on Sup Forums actually think the world had color before the 1940's so of course they don't like this
The colors of the models in gen 6 and 7 are accurate to the official art. They aren't washed out, the sprites were just made extra vibrant
it's Violet Evergarden shitposting all over again
Ubisoft tier marketing right there.
Honestly, it made days way too bright, I agree, but on the other hand I normally have issues separating dark colors and dark/night/cave areas were extremely visible for me.
u dumbie
>go to the first shrine
>there's a chest on the ledge
>feels like you can build your way up to there with the magnetic platforms but every piece of geometry is designed specifically to cuck you out of it
>oh well let's go outside
>Handholdy old guy: DID I SAY ONE SHRINE I MEANT THREE SHRINES
>Also you can warp to the tower to see things
>Wow thanks also how did you get up this tower with stairs blocked off
>I JUST DID SO FUCK YOU
>Dialogue options that are the same keep coming
Is this a game trying to make itself feel smart by fucking with the player or what? Who writes this shit?
Finish the Plateau before you start bitching about anything. You've experienced like maybe half an hour at the very best.
