Forging Caeda's wingspear is a good strategy to help you get out of tough situations or when you just want to kill a tough boss. However you can only forge one weapon per chapter and each weapon can only be forged once, so choose carefully.

Nope, forging doesn't repair weapons. Also Castor is a better bow user than Gordin primarily because that he has better movement and can promote into a bow knight instead.
