Does anyone else find themselves getting too old for today's games? I literally can't even figure out what fucking menu to use anymore.
Play overwatch and try to find your profile. I dare you. It's a goddamned mess of different options.
Battlefield 1 (the one with the black guys for some reason) has so much shit on the screen you can't figure out what in the holy fuck you're supposed to do. Same with literally every recent Ubisoft game. Who thought a HUD that envelops the screen was good idea?
And other games have like twelve currencies. Star War Battlefield has you working with like three fucking currencies. Holy shit
Am I crazy? Are none of you seeing this too?
David Wilson
>Play overwatch and try to find your profile i haven't played the game in months it's literally right there "career profile"
Christian Young
Yeah but it doesn't even have everything for your profile. You set your highlight somewhere else. You set your icon on a submenu. Friends are on a totally different menu which also relates to the other menu on the main menu of your Blizzard app.
Goddamnit nigger you know what I'm getting at here
Samuel Gray
not my fault you're a goddamn brainlet
Luis Richardson
>the one with the black guys for some reason >nigger all makes sense now
Jace Cruz
No you're not. It's just easier to load up an emulator or some classic pc games, or even boot up an old console or handheld.
Shit, some clients have a better ease of access which makes some of this shit so frustrating
Jonathan Young
Part of growing up is letting go of multiplayer games. That shit is 100% for kids. Stick to singleplayer.
Jack Kelly
>Play overwatch and try to find your profile. I dare you Is this bait? All you've got to do is click on a single button in the main menu which is labeled Career Profile.
Carter Stewart
Today's games are meant for today's young men. That means kids that grew up on social media sites and using apps on their tablets. You're used to older games with one main menu, much less handholding, and no extra frivolous shit like linking to a FB account or the ability to Tweet screenshots.
Luke Rivera
It has nothing to do with being "old" and everything to do with shitty console ui design where you have to scroll through ten menus to get to anything.
Sebastian Kelly
Why the fuck do they do this?
Jason Roberts
No precision controller such as a mouse. People being at a greater distance from their screen also means menu elements need to be larger and occupy more space. At the same time the need to ensure that you know what is the next element and where it "comes" from contextually, you need a lot of negative space that is not filled by anything, otherwise things will blend into each other as multiple menus overlap, which is why so many consoleshit games have huge menus that take up some space on the screen and nothing around them, or just things stretched out massively. A very good example of it would be the Skyrim UI. Negative space is the bane of good interface design in videogames, but nobody really gives a fuck about good interface, because what sells games today is brand recognition, partnerships or marketing.
James Parker
>to old No not really, However. I've noticed I've started to find more enjoyment out of trying to make 3D objects than just playing games.
Maybe it's because I'm actually learning something over just playing it.
Wyatt Lewis
Thankfully unlike you I haven't gotten quite to that point of advanced retardation but I do find my patience for learning autism simulator games and GSG/4x games to be much lower because the time investment just doesn't seem worth it anymore.
Christopher Cruz
so you're still an admitted autist just less now
Brandon Butler
no you're not crazy.
Gaming nowadays isn't what it used to be, and like many others in the thread have mentioned its much more hand-holdy and requires less brain cells. Gaming for the ADD/ADHD generation. Oh, getting frustrated that you cant see the enemy? don't worry, we'll let you SEE THEM THROUGH WALLS.
Just do what i've done and stick to GOG/greenlight games and look for diamonds in the rough. It's a travesty what games are nowadays, look at the pic you posted as an example. Beautiful graphics, but the environments are literally corridors despite being set in a city.
Wyatt Phillips
Never said I wasn't one. I just autism about logistic/puzzle games instead of map painting ones. Thank god for factorio and zacktronics.
Benjamin Powell
>make it intentionally confusing >give intentionally confusing rewards out at intentionally confusing times >using intentionally confusing lootboxes, currencies, tickets, and real cash "special offers" that do their best to obscure what exactly you're buying no this is just as planned
Daniel Jones
oh that's better i guess
Parker Young
It does seem like a giant waste of potential. Then I load up an old favourite and it's so much better, even if it's ugly as sin.
Cooper Foster
Interesting theory

>Does anyone else find themselves getting too old for today's games?
Absolutely yes and also I am getting too old for this board. I'm 29 and the more and more years go by I notice this board just keeps getting too young for me. A lot of games you could discuss even just 5 years ago with some good discussion you might not be able to anymore.
Time will always keep moving so the only thing you really can do when you get too old is maybe become more of a lurker on here or just give up Sup Forums altogether. Gaming as I knew and loved it is almost all gone now. It isn't going to come back no matter how much I want it to.
Another thing worth mentioning is so much discussion on certain games has been done to death to. I also have basically an infinite backlog I could try out for single player games. I just need to find the time for all of it. Obviously I won't be able to play every single sexy game that might interest me.
