Roguelikes

Why aren't you playing them?

over done and under done well

dcss devs are faggots

>no more ghosts
>no more eating purple

fuck that shit, I'm out

What's the best, rather complex one for Android? I'm bored as as fuck and my PC is away

>no more ghosts
Wait WHAT
>no more eating purple
You mean mutagenic corpses?

because roguelites are better :^)

There is a decent port of CDDA for android. It's a keyboard heavy game, but still manageable. I'd recommend you first learn to play it on PC, though.

I played FTL a lot in the last couple days

and I don't have autism

Not creative and edgy enough.

I play a roguelike hoping for the strangest things that you could possibly imagine to happen and it never gets strange enough and believe me when I say I've played a lot of them. They always end up lacking in one way or another.

Have you played Elona?

Thanks user. Ill give it a try

>>/jp/

top tier RL comin through

Dig the prowess, the capacity for violence!

I'm playing tales of maj'eyal, only getting started but I'm liking it so far

Played all the good ones and now I'm bored of replaying them.

>playing 0.21
>try to butcher a sky beast corpse
>inedible chunks

...

opinion on Jupiter Jell.

It's a scam.

I'm a bit iffy on the graphics and it has the unfortunate problem of not being Doom, but it looks neat.

because i suck. i've played at least 50 hours of dcss and have never been beyond the 12th level

Don't mind me, just being the best roguelike ever made.

Redpill me on Roguelikes. What are they and which one do I need to play right now or you'll rape me

Pick an easier race to play.

Yeah it's good shit. Really repetitive though. I just cant get into room & hallway roguelikes anymore.

Just make a minotaur berserker. You can beat the game effortlessly if you aren't completely dumb.

DoomRL is a simple, fun, familiar and easy to understand intro to the genre. The gameplay has very little in common with traditional roguelikes though, so you'll mostly just be getting used to using the numpad, resource management, and permadeath.

Alternatively you can start with Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup. If you learn to play this you'll mostly know how to play roguelikes. It's got an easy to understand tileset and a thorough tutorial as well as loads and loads of info on how to win online. It's also got one of the most unique level generators so you wont feel like you're going through the same area over and over.

It's pretty difficult, but most roguelikes are. Even Minotaur Berserker is easy to fuck up if you don't know how to play or use your god abilities correctly.

And don't try and play a caster before you've beaten the game as melee. You will die. A lot. Melee classes are fundamentally better than casters in this game.

There's nothing wrong with trying out casters. I won my first game ever with a mummy summoner back when they were still broken.

has anyone done anything where you're classical cinema horror monsters, frankenstein, dracula, invisible man, werewolf, etc?

Well summoner isn't really a "caster".

i dont think this has been done exactly probably the closest to this is infra arcana

Unfortunately people who make roguelikes are not incredibly creative when it comes to premise.

Of course it is. That's all it ever does. Casts spells.

Thanks for the recommendations man. Can I run the games on a toaster though? My computer is shit.

>And don't try and play a caster before you've beaten the game as melee
Why the fuck not? Casters are better than just bumping.
>Melee classes are fundamentally better than casters in this game.
AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA fuck no. They're just more brainless.

Roguelikes are THE toaster genre. Go to /rlg/ for more recs.

roguelikes are THE genre for running on toasters. You can run them on a fucking calculator. The only thing remotely intensive is DCSS's auto explore, and even that's nothing.

Is being sneaky viable yet in Stone Soup?

I'm actually about to lose my ToME4 run just now as Paradox Mage because I didn't pay attention, lost track of the timelines and picked the wrong one. Guess I have to do a necromancer one next to clear my head.

Don't listen to this guy
You're going to get your fucking ass eaten over and over if you try and play a caster first, especially if you're new to the genre. Win the game as Minotaur Berserker and you've earned the right to try other things. Also, protip, learn to use the auto explore, it saves buttloads of time.

It can be done, but its not really "viable"

>CDDA for android
Damn cant imagine how it would play, there is another game called Weavery souls or some shit, its a pretty good android game with a feel of rougelike.

Also NetHack is great on Android.

The Roguelike "Demon" is criminally underrated. Tangledeep is ok and has graphics but isn't free.

You don't need to play a caster first, but you should experiment a bit instead of going all MiBe all the time. Playing a caster is a really refreshing and different experience than just mashing o and tab. And yes, once you're actually good at the game casters are seriously broken.

>Slay the Spire
Since this game is not popular on Sup Forums yet, so i hope to discuss this game without too much shitposting.

Just bought it yesterday and had so much fun with it.
But it have that typical roguelike problems - luck based.
You can of course gitgud to an extend, but in the end of the day, your drops decide if you will succeed your run.
More so when this is a card game.
I feel like this game is a little lacking, but couldn't quite say what it is.
Probably the lack of diversity in play style.

Anybody else playing this right now?

Just finished playing elona+.

Downloading it now, don't tell me anything.

it's seriously addicting

I JUST FUCKIN' SAID

The android port is really well done
The guy who did this really knows his shit. I was very reluctant to try such a keyboard heavy game on a touch device but he nailed it. Either he stole from somewhere or he's a very clever man.

It's also quite frustrating at times :^)

im too fucking casual

...

>don't tell me anything.
It's fun.
I only hope they will work on a 2nd game to improve the game contents + including a multiplayer mode.
That would make the game interesting as hell

It's not super complex compared to other stuff out there, but shattered pixel dungeon is good and its interface works very well on mobile

>serial killer roguelike isn't real

Who Nuclear Thronehere?

That's not a roguelike

based on real life cases, ofcourse.

The worst part of playing PM for me is that he's so fucking powerful with his ten thousand damage mitgiation and smearing and blocking and transforming, plus powerful repositioning aoe's that it just lulls my brain into OFF state until i'm suddenly dead.
Every fucking time

Live and drink, friends!

Have you ever paid money for a roguelike?

>Win the game as Minotaur Berserker and you've earned the right to try other things
You're a fucking idiot. The fun part of Crawl is being new and trying all the weird combos (and failing spectacularly), not learning the intricacies of aaTab. Stop ruining fun.

>why does nobody do math anymore?
>I counted the fingers on one hand the other day

No need to be a faggot, user.

Just started playing Sil. Its fun even if all the middle earth shit is lost on me.

said the gaylord coming with FTL into a RLthread
>no limb based health system
way too few RLs do this

but i already finished playing spelunky. it took me 666 deaths to get to hell and win, funny enough.

Not even him, dude. I've been playing some elona+.

DCSS devs seem to think that removing features constitutes and "update". They think like engineers instead of actual game designers.

You can lose limbs in Qud, even wear your chopped off face on your face.

>MDbabies still mad after 6 years
Dwarf genocide best day of my life.

Why's that, user?

What Roguelike is this one, OP?

The real question is what is the last fun version of DCSS?
I vote for 0.16

If you think game designers never nerf/remove features, you're delusional.

It's usually the version you started playing +1-3 versions.
>the first version: you're learning the ropes, everything is new to you
>second-third one: you're getting good, you're welcoming new changes because you aren't attached to removed things yet but you welcome quality of life additions and new content
>versions after: winning is a routine now, and you start getting angry when things you like get removed/nerfed, and you don't care as much for new content anymore

Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, using the tiles instead of the ascii

But i am

I like just creating a gorillion duplicates of Clash and slamming my face into things.
