Where do you draw the line on cheating in video games, Sup Forums? what is acceptable to you (if anything?) and what is not?

Recently I found myself wanting to "cheat" in FO4 by completely removing the carry weight limit via mods. This is against the way the game is "meant to be played" but hot damn this shit is infuriating. Why do I have to stop a dungeon half way to run back to a merchant because me and my fucking dog are at max encumbrance?

>just don't pick up stuff
Fuck you I want to sell shit and make caps. My only choice is to not pick shit up, or accept these "merchant runs" in the middle of everything I do

I like to play RPG-FPS games by maxing out every skill on the player character and maxing out the difficulty. Then it's like DOOM.

>cheating in a single player game
>cheating in a bethesda game
who cares

Cheating in a multiplayer game is kinda bad. I honestly don't care but I can see how it can be annoying.

Cheating in a single player game is fucking nothing and fuck you if you're one of the idiots that make a big deal out of it resulting in why we barely get cheats anymore.

>Where do you draw the line on cheating in video games, Sup Forums?
Does the cheating effect me in a negative way? If not, I don't give a shit.

Increase your strength, that's what it's for. There's also perks for carry weight. Also you can make meaningful choices about what to take with you and what to leave behind, you'll still end up with plenty of caps.

You sound like a spoiled brat who wants it all. You only want to level your SPECIAL stats optimally and you don't want to have to take strength, you don't want to take perks unless they help you kill shit, and you want to just mindlessly haul everything with you because God forbid there's an in game situation where you don't get absolutely everything. It's like a guy who doesn't ever level CHA or persuasion but savescums every persuasion check to reap the rewards anyways, despite never investing in those stats. Not to mention that ruins the balance of SPECIAL because with the way you do it, you might as well only have 1 strength since carry weight doesn't matter and why melee if you can carry unlimited guns and ammo. I think it makes you sound bad and I don't like it.

That being said it's a single player video game and we play games to have fun. If that's what is the most fun for you I can't tell you you're wrong, but don't act like your choices would make the game objectively better for everyone. I like making choices and sacrifices in game.

For carry weight I prefer mods that remove weight from certain items but preserve it on stuff like weapons and armor.

competititve multiplayer games. For the rest cheat away who cares?

>using a mod when you can just use the console

faggot

the only time I accept cheating in multiplayer games is armor in edf

I don't cheat in mp cause its not worth the effort, desu, I'm not absolute trash+not playing competitive
For SP, I'll really only cheat if the game is visibly broken (looking at you bethesda) or if doing it normally would be outright impractical (certain minecraft mods)

nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/13285

Play how you want in a singleplayer who gives a fuck.

When you start effecting other people, that's not cool.

Cheating in MP is absolutely haram for me, but in SP anything goes as long as it increases the fun/reduces the frustration

Bethesda games disable achievements when you enable mods anyway so it knows you're "cheating"

I don't like cheating for games at all, unless I'm doing a 'top tier difficulty' run I wouldn't normally do and want to do stupid, insane shit

For instance right I'm playing Grim Dawn with a difficulty mod, giant mob packs with special effects, etc. I put on a stupid extra class pack mod which wasn't really balanced in regular play, but I'm having fun with it now. Another thing is Darkest Dungeon - the workshop classes are really cool, but also OP as fuck. So I did a Stygian difficulty run with them

>friend asks to do co-op campaign
>enable cheats

see heres the thing in fallout at least, its not a case of the game being made to make you have to go back and sell stuff and muh realisim
it is one of the remaining actual rpg mechanics left in the game.
you want to carry more? you mean your character wants to carry more, so how does your character go about that? level up strength and increase your capacity, then you can haul around progressively more and more shit. take perks that increase your weight capacity.
then ask your character, why are you picking up junk, its not worth much, and some of it is ridiculously heavy, even your companions comment on this, so why are you doing this, merchants are likely to run out of caps if you are just picking up everything anyways so..
honestly though i dont know how you are reaching encumbered after one dungeon unless you are literally picking up every piece of trash you can find.

yeah because there isnt a mod for that either

nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/15639/

Don't cheat in a multiplayer game, and if you do cheat in a single player game don't be that guy who says it was too easy/had no challenge/there was nothing to do etc.

No they don't
Only FO3 and NV if you use the console, and even then it's only for the current session

There are even mods which just give you all the achievements

three is a mod for that

I thought you had to pick up junk so it converts to scrap parts to build settlements shit like oil and aluminums etc.

oh shit, i should have read this.
this guy basically says what i wanted to say but in a not "its 8 am and i just woke up" babble

Cheating, in any form, is only acceptable in offline single player games after having first completed the game without using cheats.

Once you beat the game, any and all cheats are fair game to extend the life of the game

FUCK. I've missed so many cheevos now :(

>Cheating in single player
Who the fuck cares
>Cheating in multiplayer
Whatever makes people audibly angry

Some junk is worth taking, learn in game what junk is worth taking, it will take one or two dungeons at max, and then you begin to learn which junk is wayyyyyyy too heavy to be worth it, some junk you can carry a shit ton of and it not make a difference, others take up like 5 slots for no reason, like fans are rediculously heavy and there are just better ways to get metals. its all about efficiency. that being said even when i am on a grind for things that are generally heavy i still dont exaust myself in just 1 run, and my strength is only 4

I beat the story in Fallout before i started modding it

problem is in fallout 4 you have to pick up all that useless junk because thats how you upgrade your guns, do settlement shit and all that crafting stuff
its not like in fallout 3/NV where there was no reason to pick up 95 percent of that shit

>Fuck you I want to sell shit and make caps.
So why not just cheat in the caps? In fact, why not just cheat in the stuff you would buy with the caps? What's even the point in playing?

I use an exp modifier if I find an RPG to be way too grindy, like some of the early Dragon Quest games.

Generally I only see it acceptable if it removes something long, but not challenging.

I added a million units of every resource for the same reason.
I doubt anyone but legitimate autists would enjoy the resource scrounging in Fallout 4, it's disgusting.

>inf. money in rpgs
That's the only way I can trick myself into actually using all those secondary stuff, otherwise I would be hoarding it till the game is over.

>no reload in shooter (sp)
I'm all for it if the game has active reload like Gears or Insect Armageddon, but fuck watching the same animation thousands of times.

I wonder if this works for Fallout4 VR. Will check it out

encumbrance has always been a shitty time wasting gimmick

Only a handful of games really makes it justifiable because of existing mechanics that make doing a number of things tedious. Like walking around in Baldur's Gate 1 for the nth time through something. It is an absolute nightmare even with haste because of how shitty the in game pathing is, so teleporting around in safe areas is acceptable. Otherwise it does nothing but waste your fucking time once you're explored everything normally. In combat areas that weren't cleared it is of course is not being done.

only matters in multiplayer games. any other game i dont care. all that matters is that you have fun playing video games. if having fun to you is carrying 80 tons of stuff and using a machine gun in skyrim then knock yourself out.

For most single player games, I would say cheating before beating the game is sort of bad. I'd hardly call it unacceptable though since I don't really give a fuck what people do if it's not affecting me. After you've beat it at least once is the time to use cheats and just fuck around.
In the case of FO4 however, the game is just so shitty it's not even really worth 'finishing', so if cheating is how you get enjoyment out of the game, go for it.

Only if I get encumbered in the middle of nowhere, need to build up a settlement, or I can't find ammo for something

Carry weight is the worst mechanic that actually manages to persist in video games
>but it‘s unrealistic to fight with 10 armors and 12 great swords in your backpack!!!!
>that‘s why we only allow you 4 armors and 9 great swords
Fuck this shit. The only thing carry weight adds to a game is a tedious waste of your time. I don‘t understand how almost every RPG still insists on using it.

get the salvage beacon mod

That's what he just said, the carry weight is a mechanic designed to limit the rate at which you're able to upgrade your stuff and to add in some realism.

The expectation is you'll go out adventuring in search of specific materials and keep a look out for rare stuff, instead of just picking up and carrying around literally every single piece of trash you see and never have to worry about that entire game mechanic.

fuck edf's armor grind, thats the most boring shit in the game

Is it fun for you?
Does it hurt others fun?
AND do i ever want to brag about anything that may be effected by the cheating.

Those are the only things I typically consider. So for fallout sort of games you can do whatever the fuck but don't brag about beating some hard enemy or some shit.

i have no quams about cheats that will save time or that will allow me to redo things when i've made a stupid mistake (eg. allowing me to move a unit i accidentally moved to another tile in civ) but i stick to my own sort of honour system

all games need is really more gameplay options but developers are just too damn lazy

how it should be:
don't like carry weight? cool, go into gameplay options and turn it off.
do you like to freeze to death in games? awesome, go into gameplay options and turn on realistic survival whatever.
don't like having to eat food or repair your stuff? hey that's cool, we have options for that too.

I think it's good to limit the amount of useful items you can take with yourself, but there's absolutely no reason why junk items should have weight.
Too bad Fallout 4's Survival mode is hot cancer with manual saves disabled and shit like that.

this
main reason I only play rpg's on emulators now is for fast forwarding for xp grind, same with pokemon

>what is acceptable to you (if anything?)
Unlimited money was always my go-to cheat.
To me, getting money meant grindan. Grindan meant wasting time. And if I didn't truly enjoy the combat (except in rare cases like the Shadow Hearts series), I just wanted to be able to buy the best equipment so I can level up faster and progress through the game.
In short, a cheat that lets you cut some corner so as not to suffer through tedious shit is justifiable.
It's too bad online and achievements have all but outlawed cheats. It really made replaying a game worthwhile if you could do it in one solid day or even an evening.
These days, shit like the warp zone in SMB1 wouldn't be allowed because of muh trophies.

Lmao F4 is the easiest game to get caps.

youtube.com/watch?v=_uxhnVbx3JM

I only use cheats for testing things that would be too much of a pain otherwise, so I can look for glitches and exploits. I don't consider glitches and exploits cheating.

Only game I sort of cheat on are older games based on D&D/AD&D properties, so I can get the stats I want.

Haven't had a proper D&D game since NWN 2, so haven't really done so since then.

>why even bring me along
>i need you to stand on a platform to get past this section XD

NV is a lot easier desu, take 10 luck and bust 3 casinos, which is piss easy and only takes a few minutes, then turn in all your chips for caps at each casino, and buy 33k+ chips at any casino. Now you're able to turn in those 33k infinitely without losing them, can easily be a millionaire in ~1 hour from a new game.

I edit stats on games with a stat that lets you make persuasion or speech checks.
Since I don't want to waste points in it, but I also want to see the new options they might add.

>draw the line on cheating in video games,
None. Don't be such a pleb

>requires 6 INT

SHIT DUDE I ONLY HAVE 2 INT

yeah
player.additem f

practically, the game insults you by forcing you to do tedious no-fun shit just so you could advance
i'm not taking that

>Fuck you I want to sell shit and make caps
just console command yourself everything you need.
I did this in morrowind because it was just too much of a mission getting caps.
Normally on my 1st run of beth games I play without console commands. Skyrim I modded stuff in like spend dragon souls for perks so that late game I have a non immersion breaking way to get perks without having to just spam muffle a million times to level up

>Hes in F4 thread
>He never even played F4

L M A O ! ! !

Spamming Muffle was actually fixed it only gets you to 50lvl now :D

I played F4 but you said F4 was the easiest to make caps in and I corrected you.

comic related

Used a mod for TW2 to give me enough skill points to obtain all witcher skills at the start of the game. Fuck having to cut into my points to learn the most basic of Witcher skills.

ohhh, ok idk, only played skyrim after drgonborn, after that everytime I try to play it I get to whiterun and quit

>otherwise I would be hoarding it till the game is over.
Why? Why do I do this to myself? Evrey fucking time.

Cheating is for the second playthrough.

It's almost like you're supposed to sell your shit BEFORE you enter a new dungeon so you only go in with your necessities and no excess weight.

If you go from the weight of your necessities to overencumbered within the span of a single dungeon then yes, you're picking up way too much shit.

How come he isn't fast traveling?

Woooaaah i bet consoles also use this same method you told us :D You so told me xDD
FUCK BETHISDA IAM RIGHT YE?!

>Being this autistic.

or you know, you can just loot everything, decon the weapons and armour but before doing that, take all the mods off of them and sell the mods to store.
Mods go for like 250 iirc and there is generally 3 mods on everything..
So easy to make money in FO4

Depends on the kind of game. There are a lot of games where if I'd had infinite money, I'd never have found a lot of interesting shit the devs specifically put in to get you powerful without money, but encouraged exploration or challenging yourself.

If it's some kind of shitty pseudo MMO grind, then that's different.

You can't when you're over-encumbered

I always try to remove item degradation via mods

>making this post
>calling anyone short of CWC himself autistic
You seem pretty far along on the spectrum yourself to be throwing that accusation around

It sounds like you're playing Grim Dawn, but want to be playing Path of Exile.

Grim Dawn was designed for slow, methodical play against small groups. PoE is about fast, explosive gameplay with min-maxed builds for hyper clear speed through huge packs of enemies, and big challenging bosses.

In single player games or said games which single player is the main focus is a ok
Lan or coop cheating is fine if all the parties allow it and the opposite as well if they don't, then it isn't
Online multiplayer games cheating isn't ok as not all parties have agreed to it and doesn't put them on a somewhat level playing field
As for the what cheats are actually okay. Any that nake your game time more enjoyable. I just recently replayef FFX on pc and cheated so i didn't have to always use the cheat options available to constantly refresh my items by using cheat engine to keep them all at 99

i bet you love botw

OOOOOOOOOOR!!!! You just scap everything in Sanctuary to make 5 ater purifiers that give you 2000 caps a day
Thei weight nothing
They heal you
You can sell them for the highest Weight/Value price.

But nope you just have to be super autistic loot everything and spend hours on looting weapons and couple of few caps. But hey who iam to judge if you want to play autisticly just go on.

I love Morrowind. It's my favorite RPG of all time.

And yet, I like to TGM, just because it's more fun to smash through things, see all the cool enemies, and find the ridiculous items for my treasure room than it is to slow crawl through dungeons and maybe get fucked up because a mod enemy was unbalanced or something.

Sue me.

Oh, but you can walk? Sorry I haven't played NV in forever. I just remember you couldn't move whatsoever in Oblivion.

cheating in SP games is always okay. it doesn't hurt anyone besides achievement-obsessed autists and the "people" that treat their preference for challenging games as an accomplishment and not just a preference.

I don't have 6 int you fuck

whenever i desperately want to finish the game but it permanently glitches out on me.
Also, the map anf fast travel in minecraft, cuz it's insane to have time for running back and forth between thousands and thousands of chunks irl

real-time, i mean

just barely

THEN LEVEL UP YOUR CHARATCER YOU KNOW YOU INCREASE SPECIALS WITH LEVEL UPS RIGHT?

youtube.com/watch?v=gP5oN92rbWI

>Cheating In singelplayer game
All cool and good
>Cheating in multiplayer game
>Not cool and good

This is the fault of your own autism, not the game
>WAAAAAAAHH, I want everything!
Fucks like you are why "RPGs" now have no character building and you are just automatically good at everything and only need to level up or invest points because it feels good and makes the game easier. You never have to have real weaknesses, you never have to find certain content difficult or impossible because it doesn't suit your character, you never have to make decisions, you just get it all.

>playing FO4
>needing to download a mod for something a console command does

You need to be 18+ to post here, faggot.

honestly if I REALLY wanted to take all the gold back with me, i'd just coc instead of savescumming a walk back to home base

well you need to loot shit anyway to build shit, so it kills two birds, plus you earn much more a day selling mods, just a group of 4 radiers can potentially be 3k worth of loot.
Also, 'm not sure as it has been a while, but there was a better way of making cash
I used to plant shit loads of mutefruit and tomatoes, with that and purified water I made adhesive, but I can't remember what i did after that, that was making me my cash.
ik I broke the economy though. I think I was making drugs at the chem station or something like that.

Unfortunately I was playing on PS4, if not I would have just console commanded myself cash.

I miss unlockable cheats and the ones ps2-era GTA games had. Toggling godmode or silly shit like big heads after beating the game was fun, and i can't hold a PS2 controller without feeling the health and harrier cheats from san andreas bubble up from the depths of my muscle memory.
i blame achievements

To remove pointless slow down shit like limited inventory, stupid high encounter rates, grinding, and other pointless garbage made to artificially lengthen games.

>It takes 286 levels to unlock all Specials and Perks in F4
>You save 8 level ups by collecting all the Bobbleheads and Special Book

youtube.com/watch?v=tD62pKRZNDw

tl;Dr for OP: just fucking THINK for once

im currently doing a mega autistic Gallery "100%" run in skyrim, and after I finish I will be starting a mega autistic Fo4 run focusing on this shit. I have lost my way

Either you are really autistic or never played the game.

I usually use cheats when I've already finished a game once or twice. Don't see the point of limiting myself if I've already done it before and got through it in the end. I wouldn't cheat on the first time though, that kills my enjoyment.
