There's been a couple games I've played that have been fixed by "verify integrity of game files", most recently EYE

I had this problem with a huge overhaul mod for a game that didn't install correctly because of UAC. Had to move the game to my documents and install it there, so that in that sense reinstalling did fix it.
Someone post that greentext story where user tries to find a fix for a game and jumps through all these hoops and shady russian shit until it works
>100 page thread
>First two dozen pages are just people explaining the problem
>More explaining and half assed answers that everyone already tried
>Go to the final page thinking I'll skip the bullshit. It's just people saying thank you and how some fix worked. Zero links to the post or user who posted it
>Keep going back further to find out where the fix was
>Page 99
>Page 98
>Finally make it to to page 58 after wading through all the bullshit to find the fix
>Worked but everyone who has this problem has to comb through the entire thread to find it
