After the overwhelming critical and commercial success of BOTW, can we assume the old Ocarina of Time style of Zelda is finally dead and buried?

I sure hope so.

I want another remake.

>Trusting Nu-tendo to make a remake

Aonuma said that the future of the series in 3d is BotW-style open-air nonlinear games. So yeah, the LttP / OoT style progression games are finished.

Agreed. 3D Zelda has always been kinda meh. Hopefully BotW doesn't kill 2D Zelda though.

Doesn't mean shit for the phantom hourglass/ALBW/Grezzo teams who are supposedly making a Link's Awakening successor.
I think the LTTP style will persist in the 3D game's off-years.

>keeping original version indisputably better while raking in millions on a watered down remake

they just have respect for what theyve created.

ocarina of times first version with blood and chanting was fucking bleak. the nightmares I had...oh the nightmares.

Autism.

*raises paw*
*farts*

imagine how amazing an Majora's Mask type experiment could be using the BOTW baseline. Scale things way down, but put a much bigger attention to detail into the world, its characters and sub stories. Instead of having a million shrines, it would bring back dungeons.

They could create a 10/10 game by reusing assets and experimenting once more, it'd be a cheap sequel that could be done a lot faster, people might give it shit for looking similar but with time people would quickly realize how much depth there is to it all. They'll never do this, because people are stupid and word of a smaller map and less shrines/dungeons would make them riot. But, they really have an opportunity here to make a fucking god tier iterative sequel.

fucking hell, Deku Link looks so cute

not an argument
t. fartfag

Nope they'll re-incorporate those elements back in but stick with the open botw format as a base
I have a feeling the next one will be a majora's mask type spinoff in the same format and recycled assets

Fart up my snout, user-kun

BotW is trash. It also sold less than OoT, and even TP.

Me too OP. The series was in a fucking dark age between MM and BOTW.

Don't be so sure, we haven't gotten a sales update since September

Is too soon to know. BotW is still on top of weekly sales charts. OoT had almost twenty years

>wah wah my favorite game isn't trash

Like clockwork :)

OOOOOO-AAAAAAHs aren’t chanting, user.

This. Aonuma is a goddamned hack

I hope it's a MM style twist on the formula but just in the sense that it puts a twist on the core formula and not just a surface level change like WW or TP. Not actually just making MM in the BOTW engine.

I'm not talking about whether or not the game is good, I'm talking about whether or not it sold less than OoT and TP

Me too. Your what if bullshit doesn't matter.

I care not. Give me all the Zelda. I crave more. Be it classic top-down or open world or regimented structure.

No you don't have to be smug and point out that the Philips CDI games were awful, nobody actually played them before they became memes on youtube anyway.

>there will never be another proper 2D oracle/awakening style zelda

Why even live?

Honestly, for the flaws it had BotW was fantastic and did a ton of things well. It only makes tons of sense that they fix the flaws with it and push this new take on Zelda further to see what can come of it.

If you fix the major flaws of lack of dungeons or even non shrine areas that last a little longer (enemies and puzzles). Change up the aesthetic here and there, enemy variety and more meaningful side quests. Boom it's perfect.

Well, your "facts" are going to be proven false, come January 31st

He said sword motion controls were going to be the future after skyward sword. The only thing consistent about Aonuma is his inability to make a good game. The only thing we know about the next 3D Zelda is it won't be good.

BOTW where the Divine Beasts were the size and complexity of OOT dungeons would be objectively the best video game ever made. Oh, and if the shrines differed in visuals from region to region.

As it stands, BOTW and OOT and both some of the best games ever made, but it's impossible to say which is better because they're both so different. BOTW needed its 4 true dungeons to be more complex than they were, but it is still an incredible Zelda game and easily an instant classic that will be remembered just as fondly by the generation that grows up with it as OOT is by all the old dudes on this sub.

reminder majora mask is the best zelda game

Top down Zelda's will still follow the classic formula while the 3D games will be open world.

I don't care about open world shit just give me more 2D

There's some great moments out of all the 3D zeldas held together by long stretches of "Let's make Ocarina again"

If anything, I hope BotW lets them deviate from that mentality and they can do something original.

Part of this can be seen from the number of people claiming BotW is "not a true zelda game" and yet somehow the 3D zeldas are.

I want to see something like BotW in gameplay and design, but with the intimacy and character depth of Majora's Mask

I sure hope NOT.

BotW brings so many more problems with its changes I'd rather we just go back.

BOTW has a lot to work on. I agree that it is heavily flawed but there's a lot of potential that something truly amazing could be made from.

Oot is GOAT fight me faggots

I lamented that thought for a while, but then I remembered Skyward Sword.

100 BotW's is better than another Skyward Sword.

only contrarians/teenagers disagree.

>tfw Arin was right all along about how to actually make a 3D Zelda work

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the vanilla Fire Temple theme.

Right, filling a huge world with mediocre mini- and microgames makes for a really compelling experience.

I can't wait until the open world design gets thrown into the trash. Or to be more precise this kind of open world.
